I think you might need to pay gst?

    • nope there is GST added for some items on their store. for most, including this, there isn't.

    • I bought my 1080Ti from them last year, and didn't get charged gst

  • +3

These seem to be falling in price reasonably quickly. Crypto boom over and consumers just not buying as many at the $2k price?

    • +1

I thought it was more the AMD cards that were used for mining?

      • -3

Nvidia cards more versatile, more power efficient out the box and less troublesome, especially if you want over 50 cards running.

Don’t wanna be power strapping, BIOS modding and tweaking that many AMD cards. It’d be tiresome.

      • +3

Yup, AMD cards are certainly preferred for mining. But it got expensive from all the miners buying it, so people started buying the next thing and the next and so on

    • +1

Nvidia's GTX 10 series inventory is almost gone.

      Only 1060 GPUs left.

    • +2

I think consumers in general are just content with what they’ve got and this isn’t just in regards to computer parts. That being said, mining and crypto is here to stay, it’s not profitable unless you have a solar/battery setup in Australia (coz we are getting screwed on power prices hard here - 38c kw/h in SA LOL), but people still do it. My mate has a massive shed setup, it’s pretty impressive but he does have 3 phase power, massive solar array and a Tesla wall, and subsequently doesn’t get a power billl.

Miners aren’t really buying these cards. No massive difference in hashing power is worth the price of these cards when compared to 1070/1070tis. Might change when they optimise GDDR6 for mining.

      • +1

Thanks for the anecdote. I guess it shows that enterprising people usually find ways around an unfavourable situation. May I ask, roughly how much money does he make from mining?

    • +1

Well people with GTX 1080/1080 Ti would be reluctant to switch with the price tag of 2080Ti, as it's about the only card worth upgrading but also $2k card.

      Better to wait for 7nm.

      • +2

Got a 1080ti and it runs all the games I've thrown at it fine at 4k 60fps. I don't see any compelling reason to move to the 2080ti so far.

        • If anyone has a 1080ti there is no logical reason why you would upgrade right now. Unless you just love burning $

        • Yes, the 1080TI seems to be mandatory for gamers with 4k monitors or TVs. At the moment I am content with a Nvidia 1070 since I have a 2560x1440 monitor. I don't need more than 80 FPS, it's just a waste of power. I need to have my monitor set to a refresh rate of at least 75KHz to use ULMB (motion blur reduction tech via backlight strobing); it reduces motion sickness in 3d games. Some Freesync monitors incorporate this tech too now, which is good for gamers.

  • must be bargain

Cancelled my ebay plus membership as we seem to be forgotten.

    • Yep

      • I did actually. Still valid till 24 July.

      • I did.

    • Same here

    • Yeah, I only got one 15% coupon deal in June and "free" Google Home mini but it sucks so far. eBay needs to up their Plus game. Amazon at least gives me stream service.

    • +1

I've also went ahead and cancelled.

Been a member since August or so, I think we got 1 or 2 15% off eBay plus only item deals (which were shit) and that's basically it.

A lot of the "eBay Plus" items free delivery are for standard delivery anyway, and aside from a few exceptions most of those same sellers offered free basic postage anyway.

Totally useless. Unless eBay totally changes course in the next 7 months no way I'll get eBay Plus again.

    • +1

      I cancelled mine too.
Seems like I was the only one not to get promos or freebies when joining etc.

Most of the time when the eBay plus free shipping logo appears, the shipping is actually free for everyone anyway. I've been checking by signing out and comparing and the last 3 purchases were all like this.

  • Has anyone got the confirmation for the 15% off code?

    • +2

Still nothing here. It's quite annoying.

    • +2

didn't get my confirmation but the code worked after 48 hours

      • Cheers, just checked and it works for me also

    • and the coupon code will only become active when you receive the code via myeBay, email and/or your eBay Message Centre

Thanks, that's why it didn't work presumably.

If you haven't received it adding an item to the cart and not purchasing it might trigger them to send the code.

    • +1

if you qualify for 15% discount for eBay Plus

Ridiculous that I pay for the service yet I still need to pray that they'll randomly target me with their deals. Never renewing this.

  • +2

Still happy with the Computer Alliance $629 RTX2070 deal

      • The $629 deal on it finished a few days ago.

        • Yep but this would've gone down to $636. Close enough, maybe they'll restock.

          • +1

@follow: I just asked about this - they said their stock is reserved for other promotions so not likely to come back on eBay any time soon.

    • Is it an A chip or not?

  • Created new ebay plus account. Waiting patiently for code. Upgrading from a 960 :O The 2080 here looks like a great price

    • +1

took 48 hours for my code to work and i never received confirmation

      • oh man really? I hope the card is in stock and discounted in 48 hours then.

        • Me toooooooo!

          • +1

@allegiance86: Give the code a go now worked for me .. also make sure you are on .com.au I was on .com for some reason and it would not work .. so I'm not sure how often I tried that yesterday and maybe it would have worked.

      • yeah Im expecting the same to happen.

  • +1

How much faster is a 2080 vs 2070? Worth the extra 200?

    • +1

I guess it would be similar to 1080 vs 1080 Ti? maybe 15%?

      • +3

        1080ti is 30% faster than 1080. 2070 to 2080 is 25-30% as well

  • would I need new mobo board for this? got an i5

    • No

    • As long as you have a spare pci-e slot and psu of the right wattage, with pcie power connectors, then it should be fine

    • +2

what kind of i5? if it's a super old one you'll risk bottlenecking the 2080ti

      • But even then he just can crank up the graphics settings so its not like a bottleneck really matters.

  • +1

Tempting, still rocking a 980 but will probs keep using it.

  • +3

which means after 2 years we have to pay same money for the same level of GPU( 2080 price is around 1000 same as 1080ti)

    • Does and RT. Have faith

    • Depends on what AMD can bring to the table as the 2080/ti isn't that much greater than the 1080/ti was

  • The item is located at NZ. Which means for RTX 2080 ti $1541.28, do we need to pay duty tax ?

  • The premium for ti is so high. Beast of a card though

  • I signed up for eBay plus yesterday morning and my code is now active (24 hours). Price seems to have dropped to $949 now, too.

  • $949.08/$1535.10 now! (forgot about the $150 cap)

  • just bought the 2080 for $949. should be here on the 30th. hoping its not a DOA. if it is anyone know how much it costs to return it? only 6 sold so far

  • Just bought a 2080ti, thanks op. Signed up to Ebay plus yesterday, coupon started working 24 hours later. $1535 now

  • -1

Alsoooo, I'm pretty sure we need to pay GST when this hits border security.

Ebay don't collect GST for items above 1000aud, I have a feeling the invoice will have the price before the 15% off as Ebay is delivering the discount so the sellers invoice will be the original price. As such weay need to pay GST for the 2080 and 2080ti

    • eBay collect GST if you purchase from EVGA official eBay though

    • I actually sent them a message and they responded with "This would include GST and would be the Black Edition" as the 2080 had a picture of the XC.

      • +1

Yer I had a chat and they assumed Ebay is collecting the GST, but ebay doesn't collect GST for any items over $1000.

So we would need to pay the GST and $83 service charge

Wish I knew this before purchasing, have asked them to cancel the order and refund as the duty makes this wayyy to expensive

This would apply to the 2080 and 2080ti

        • Where does the $83 service charge come from? Thanks for confirming this btw.

          • @Autonomic: https://www.abf.gov.au/help-and-support-subsite/CustomsNotic…

$50 to communicate to you that you need to pay GST and a $23 fee to warehouse the item

            Crock of crap really

            • @Tobz: I contacted futuregear twice. First time I said I wanted to cancel due to GST and they said it's included. Asked for clarification with a link to the eBay FAQ on GST and they've said that they handle GST themselves for orders over $1000. Not sure what to do now.

              • +1

@Autonomic: Well if you have it in writing you should be okay.

If customs or the freight contact you for payment you just forward that to them. If they refuse and you don't pay it, the item will be sent back and I imagine you could request a refund from ebay/paypal on the basis that they said they've cover it.

                • @Osiris: Let's hope so. There's also Mister Plods comment at the top saying how he bought a 1080Ti and avoided GST. I'm gonna risk it.

                  • @Autonomic: I tried to cancel to but they shipped it and advised GST is handled by PayPal, so NFI what's going on. I guess if I get a notice to pay GST in the mail we can just ignore it and it will RTS and we can persue a refund?

                    • @Tobz: I guess so. I'd expect futuregear to have sold stuff to Australians before that was >$1k. Surely they'd know how GST is handled?

                  • +2

@Autonomic: At first I panicked, cause it was $1060 and I didn't realize that their store was in NZ. So I sent them an email asking them to cancel it if I was going to be charged GST.

                    They responded with this:

"This will be sent out from NZ but import fees wouldn't be incurred as the GST would be covered"

Got the card (EVGA 1080Ti FTW3) a few days later, all nice and new with nothing extra to pay :)

This was a year ago now, but it was still after the new GST rule was in effect, so I'd imagine it'd still be fine.

                    • @Mister Plod: Thanks! Fingers crossed we have the same experience.

                      • +1

@Autonomic: Just got msg from Aus post, card is in Sydney and ready for delivery tmrw, no GST so far!

                        • +1

@Tobz: You have to pay any custom duties before your item is released to Australia post so if they have it, you should be in the clear.

I don't understand how the company in NZ is so clueless about it though, paypal don't pay gst. ebay don't collect it, if this store pays it great, but why not just say so….only other alternative is putting a lesser amount on the shipping invoice.

Either way greats on the new purchase :)

                        • @Tobz: you ordered after me, how are you getting it before me :(

                          • @RickyBaker: Well it's still in Sydney!! Hopefully tmrw

                            • @Tobz: now mine says Feb 4..

                              • +2

@RickyBaker: Mine arrived today. I understand how the GST works now.

They have a distributor in Australia and they bulk ship from NZ to Aus. So the GST is paid by them!

The distributor then sends it to us the consumer

                          • @RickyBaker: Mines in sydney. Has to get to adelaide. Est 30th

                            • @SardineHead: Mines in Sydney, got there yesterday. Needs to get to Perth and they estimated Feb 4.. Not very happy, but not much I can do at this point. Ah well

                        • @Tobz: Nice. Now I want a 2080Ti…

                          • @Autonomic: I was reading these are not binned chips in the cheap black cards and power delivery is limited to 112%. Thought overclocking would be hopeless.

HOWEVER popped it in last night, ran the OC tuner. Recommended +200 on the core, did +900 on the memory. Seems stable for now. So 2025mhz core clock and 7900mhz RAM, it's a beast!!!

                            • @Tobz: Is that the EVGA OC software?

                              • @Autonomic: Yep!

I've pulled it back to +800 on the memory as I was getting a crash after an hour in game. Now solid as a rock.

  • +2

Totally worth to play 1997's Quake 2 with RTX enabled!

  • Managed to snap an RTX 2080 Black for $950 shipped. Note that they are waiting for stock at the moment and will ship in 3-4 days.

  • Still waiting on delivery .. hopefully tomorrow supposedly express shipping with delivery window that closed yesterday.

    • Mines saying its in transit and located in Western Australia.. Was meant to get to South Australia from Sydney where it was processed. Gonna have to call Auspost now.

      • Interesting mine went to Adelaide for a few days before going back to in transit.

        • …and I called them this morning to be told it was back in SYD and not Perth… so awsome.

          • @Elijha: Wow.. guess it will be here next week..

            • @SardineHead: Called them and they said mine was put as mis-sorted because futuregear screwed up the delivery address somehow. its currently in WA and should be in SA next week. rip my anthem performance until early access.

FYI: "It sounds like the parcels have been missorted. Our machines are automated sorting machines so if an address is not written correctly or the writing is not noticeable it can cause our machines to missort the parcel.

Another reason for it to go through a different facility is if the label is damaged, when this becomes unreadable, it causes a missort by our automated machines. While there may be plenty of other reasons why these things can happen, these two are of the most common.

In regards to the item that could have gone into the letterbox, the only instance we wouldn't leave it is if the parcel required a signature on delivery. The sender may have indeed opted in for this without your knowing as it adds that extra layer of security for their purposes, when delivering your parcel. I hope that this information helps, please let me know if I can help you further."

              • @SardineHead: $5 says they swapped the barcodes on our packages but the address labels were correct so they followed the scanned route until it got to local where the local distribution center was like WTF send this back. Its to much of a co-incidence yours went to WA and mine went to SA.

My ebay feedback on postage isn't going to be favourable for them.

                • @Elijha: the lady on the phone said the futuregear mangled my postage address. futuregear put the delivery address in the company name or something like that. of course she could just be talking shit and its like you said. but hey.. at least our cards arent lost i guess lol.
