Sure. He'll probably sack you afterwards though, lol.

      • It's Friday arvo and beer'o clock, the boss might actually do it:), so dont risk your job!

        • Haha, buy a six pack of beer just in case he tries to, then bribe him not too :p .. if he doesn't, then keep beer for yourself :D

    • depends on how much you hate him/her I guess…

Been burnt by LG before. I said id never go back. Hrmmmm this is a tempting upgrade from s6 edge

  • I'm on the fence and can't seem to make up my mind about a new phone.

My HTC One X screen is smashed, and my Galaxy S3 has some hardware issues (getting poor phone signal, and poor gps signal + mics need replacing).. anyways..

I'm on the fence about the LG V30, mainly due to LGs history of hardware failure, though I 'think' that was in their G series, but this thread mentions backlight bleed issue in the V series.. is this correct?

My other alternative phones I looked at were the Nokia 7 Plus (which was under $500 I think, last time I looked, now closer to $600), ther Huawei Nova 3i, also the Nova 3e for a cheaper phone.

I wanted something that takes decent pics/video, good accurate GPS, and stop enough to play acouple games (pokemon go/walking dead etc..).

Being Aus stock (Im assuming) and within budget, how confident are you guys regarding V30 quality? and are the slow software updates a big deal for you guys ?

    • -1

this is oled, it wont have blacklight bleed

      • Aren't both V30 and V30+ OLED, not AMOLED?

Theres a few comments on page 2 (a little past half way) where they mention the bleed from the edges. I had a quick google, and many hits regarding the bleed from the edges, inc video. Looks like it would be annoying using the phone int he dark, but not sure if a deal killer. I wonder if they fixed this 'issue' after it's official release.

  • How does it compare with Huawei nova 3i?

    • +3

      The v30 has:
      waterproof
      NFC
      Flagship processor
      AMOLED
      Higher resolution
      High end DAC Audio
      Wireless charging, including fast wireless
      Gorilla Glass 5

The Huawei Nova 3i does not.

      • Thank you Pete.

  • -2

how come it still says $799 online? where did u get the catalogue?

  • +14

I have owned this phone for almost a year now.
Great phone, excellent battery life. Lasts me a whole day with medium usage easy.
Sound quality using wired headphones is great thanks to the DAC and wireless bluetooth headphones that support aptx sound great too (aka Ozbargains favourite Sony WH1000XM3's).
Camera takes decent photos during the day, wideangle camera is great. Now night/dusk/low light photos are not its strength. Okay but not great.
Having a microsd card reader, built in FM radio and headphone socket is definitely a plus in my books as its harder and harder to find phones that have these.
Fast charging works well, although I believe you might have to use the LG charger to do this.
All in all for $479 it is great value.
Only complaint as others have mentioned is lack of software updates by LG. Do not have high expectations regarding software updates if any.
LG had set up a "Software Upgrade division" to make their Android updates suck less.
That has more or less failed miserably.
    LG = Lifes Lies Good

thanks for the review mate! +1
BTW for bluetooth you should try connecting via LDAP rather APTX (you can change the settings in the sony headphone app), you would be amazed! :)

      • thanks i'll check it out. cheers

      • +1

sorry my bad, it's LDAC not LDAP (spent too long in IT lol)

    • What is the latest version of Android it is running (8.0)? Also do u know if the v30 will be getting 9.0 in the future

      • +1

v30 will be getting Android Pie 9 by end Q2 2019, according to LG

    • Radio! I'm doing it!!

    • LG = Lousy goods

    • Thanks for the review. I do miss FM radio on my current phone, and was stunned to find it missing (did't check the specs for that before purchasing). My previous phone had IR blaster too, which also went missing on the new one.

Real world battery life is important to me, as is performance. NFC essential, so Oppp misses out. Camera comes in next, as my current phone can produce some amazing pics with simple point-and-shoot.

I'm going to have a serious look at the LG!

  • Still on a G4, screen now cracked… But useable… It's slow and annoying… But useable.

Considering this v30+ (I'm on a $40 Telstra byo plan) or a Pixel 3 on a contract with optass..

    • Have you tried factory resetting? My G4 is still very speedy.

      • I haven't. Shall backup my shiz and give it a shot. If I can keep this chuggin along I will

      • This actually worked. Shall keep the g4. Ported to aldi so i can take advantage of a decent telstra deal in future.. Maybe the jbhifi deals but they apparently finish mid Feb

  • just looking at store stock, doesn't seem to be widely available in melbourne. mainly city stores

    • I called a couple of Sydney stores and they had 3 in stock. Having this advertised on the front page is pretty clearly bait advertising. They don't even list it as a clearance item.

  • I'm still in the Pixel 2XL contract, so I've got another year to wait, however this is good value

  • +1

So many upvote. Will this phone has any stock? Can I leave deposit at jbhifi to ensure Ill get the phone?

    • buy today and hope the deal still goes ahead and claim the difference back/

      7 day price guarantee.

  • Great looking phone without screen protector, however a bit meh with one fitted, encroaches into screen area too much.
You can do diy LOCA protector, check xda dev for the thread, appears to look much better, if you've the skills to fit.
Switched to a LG G7 and hate the aspect ratio, think the V30 probably had the best compromise between 16:9 & the new "tall narrow"
    Sorry tangent!

  • Has anyone confirmed this deal with JB HiFi?
I called one store and they had no knowledge of it, but suggedted there is a company policy "14 day price guarantee" which I was unable to confirm online.

  • What do you think stock will be like? Should I just buy now and claim price protection?

    • I think it depends on if they are getting a new shipment for this promotion.
I called two stores today and they had 2 and 3 in stock.
Bought one today for a family member and will get refund with their price guarantee if/when it happens.

Update: The v30 comes out of the box with Android Oreo 8.0 with the August 2018 security, not Nougat 7.0 as I originally thought.

      • is the price protection with 28 Degrees? I read the terms and it said the item have to be in stock, so i wonder if they will honour it if it flies off the shelves…

        • They said it was their company policy. Additionally I paid with a visa card that has price protection for 21 days (not 28 degrees), but hoping JB HiFi will just process the refund on the day, as discussed.
Anyhow probably best to be there at the store open just in case.

          • @[Deactivated]: oh ic…hope it works out

            • @homersyd: I confirmed with 2 JB HiFi stores that they will refund the price difference if within 14 days their published price drops below my purchase price. Apparently it is their policy.

              • @[Deactivated]: thanks Pete2 - I bought one today after your comment and also checked with my local JB, they said the same thing! :)

  • I also rang JB today as i was worried about stock and was going to do the same.

The guy checked and said price guarantee is only 7 days and only if the store had them in stock, so i took it as that if they sell out, they don't have to offer it?

    • I asked 2 stores specifically about this. The stores I called said it was a 14 days price guarantee, a company policy and I just had to bring in the receipt and they would refund the difference.
Anyhow, I still think it is a risk to buy one and rely on the refund though. I probably should have waited, but my situation needed a phone this week.

  • So is this catalogue available online?

  • +5

Promised myself i'd never buy LG again despite the g4 being the best phone i've owned! So why my disdain for LG? They cannot be trusted to provide updates, they promise the world and deliver little. Now they are teasing me with this deal seeing I have a $450 jb voucher burning a hole in my email folder.

    • +4

I said I'd never LG again and sticking by it
Have the poco F1 now and this phone is amazing

  • I already have the Poco F1. Would it be a good idea to replace it with V30+?

I saw the previous comments, would this be a comprehensive summary?

    V30 pros:
    Quad DAC
    Australian Warranty
    Probably better screen
    NFC
    B28

    F1 pros:
    Better CPU and RAM
    Better battery
    OS updates
    Popular with devs
    Released at a later date

    • +1

I just bought the poco. My logic was that I've never used nfc and I get by with my current phone that doesnt have b28 anyways. I guess if you don't play a lot of games or use your phone for heavy media consumption, the V30 might be okay? Don't think it's much of an upgrade in my opinion imo.

On a side note, how's the poco for you? What are the things you find bad about it?

      • Mine received two updates in few months. It feels smooth to operate and very decent battery.

Given the amount of RAM, I still don't like how MIUI closes apps, even if I lock or whitelist them.

I suppose the worst thing is app compatibility. Some apps just wouldn't work as good as they would on a more popular device.

    • -2

The v30 Will be a worthless brick in 2 years with no updates

      • That's a shame. I was really after the Quad DAC. But hey, I believe mobile phones have a 2 yr life span. I usually change phone every 2 yrs for various reasons such end of support, degrading battery, or apps demanding more hardware.

      • +1

        Why?

If it works today, why wont it in 2 years?

      • What do you think will be the most important apps we will be unable to run in two years? Are there any particular features of upcoming operating systems that will add to it becoming so useless?

    • +1

In addition to your pros I would add:
      v30:
      Fast Wireless Charging
      IP68 Water Resistance 1.5m for 30 min
AMOLED, higher resolution screen with Always-On display
      Lighter weight 158g
Optical Image Stabilisation on main rear camera
      Additional wide angle camera
      No display notch
      Daydream ready for VR
      ARCore supported

      Poco F1:
      lower price
      better selfie camera
      stereo speakers
ARCore partial support (issues with CPU image buffering)

I would purchase a locally available LG phone over the Poco F1. The local support and warranty is justification enough. The Quad DAC is seriously amazing; I have the V20, and although annoyed with the ridiculous software updates, I can't see myself with a phone without these types of audio capabilities. The LG does get more right than wrong and with the last few generations, the hardware quality has been amazing.

  • -4

The only reason is to get this phone is its Quad DAC

I rather pay another $300 for Huawei P20 pro however

    • Where is the Huawei P20 Pro available for under $800?

  • Just asked Bourke St mall - only a handful in stock. Hoping there are more shipped… but I'm skeptical, going to purchase them and claim a refund. What are the chances that they won't go on sale on the 31st of Jan now that a catalogue is out?

    • If u have price protection cr card u could use a photo of the catalogue to claim the difference?

      • credit card has protection of upto $300. Lose out on that extra $20 :(. JB advised they will refund difference in cash, but my worry is that the catalogue changes, and LG V30+ is not on sale for 479. Then I have to pay full price - at worst.

        • What's happen if the new catalogue come out with a price correction, says it's wrong price.like here https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Catalogue-Corrections/

          • @jassssone: It's the risk I run I guess. Either get a bargain phone at 479. Or ripped myself off. Or not get one at all given the handful of phones.

            • @OZcheepsk8: There is also the option of a pricematch for Allphones or MobileCiti at $698 currently the lowest local stock I think

        • its 1000 per item not 300, so all good

          • @mlburnian: sadly mines is only $300. But the good thing is that per pete2's suggestion above I price matched it with allphones. now its a difference of ~$220 :)

            • @OZcheepsk8: Nice, I tried the same but was told all phones are not aus stock, didn't feel like arguing. so all we need is a pic of the catalogue? Or do we need screenshot of check out page on jb website?

              • @mlburnian: try mobileciti - I checked that aswell and was aus stock with aus warranty

  • Did anyone else get the same catalogue? From Melbourne?

  • +1

I was in the vicinity of JB at Oxley (Brisbane) and decided to pop in to get a definitive answer on whether or not they do price guarantees. The website showed no stock so I was also going to find out if they would be getting any phones in for Thursday. The sales guys didn't have any idea about the deal (and were surprised the catalogue was leaked) but coincidentally they had received one V30+ in last night's delivery. They assured me that they have a 14 day price difference guarantee which I'd be able to claim on Thursday, and that if I keep the box sealed then I'd be able to get a full refund instead should the deal be a typo/not go ahead for some reason. I bought the phone today at full price given that the worst case scenario would just be getting a refund if it doesn't pan out.

With regards to getting phones in for the offer, it sounded like they are going to receive more, but I'm not 100% on that.

  • None in Tassie at all

  • +1

If you wanna take selfie on this don't bother it has the worst front facing camera. One that's worse than G4

    • Thanks for this.

  • Thanks OP! Bought one today at JB and will wait for the price guarantee :)
I will keep it sealed in case the deal falls thru so worst case i will just get a refund!

    • +3

I was told by a sales assistant that they won't be doing that for this deal to stop precisely people doing what u did.. Referring to price guarantee

      • +1

Worst case scenario is to get Price protection on credit card to cover

      • +1

Well that would go against their stated policy of 30 days change of mind if item is unopened and packaging intact. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Documents/Consumer%20Warranties%20…

Wiggle room for jb could be the the above refers to electrical products and accessories not specifically phones or mobile products but they only have two categories, electrical and software. Read it for yourselves it will make more sense:)

        • good find my man - I'm suddenly a lot more confident of my purchase

  • Looks like there's only stock in the city (VIC)???

  • Recommended that everyone buying it early keep it unboxed.

  • JB and Telstra sh!t me hard with the v30. I picked one up back in late Jan, early Feb last year, and couldnt get any satisfaction from any if the major retailers. Optus and Vida werent carrying it, i think on account of Telstra having an exclusive at the time. Telstra and JB (a Telstra dealer) were both completely uninterested in selling the phone, when i walked in to ask about it reps from both stores immediately said "yeah, but come over here and buy an s8". On top of that neither shop had a single cover for the phone! Talk about not supporting a handset you sell, was ridiculous.

As such no surprise they have some stock for clearance, if i was LG I would not enter another exclusive deal knowing that the retailer completely shafted your sales.

  • -4

I'll hold onto my xiaomi redmi note 4x I got for around $260 aud delivered for now.

My next phone will probably have 4k YouTube somehow and maybe proper wireless Bluetooth aptx HD along with 8gb ram minimum and whatever the top soc is of the day.

  • +2

Do we expect the offer to be valid online, or in-store only?
Also, if online, what time do the prices update, midnight?

  • Hope that JB Hifi is able to get more stock as it seems it is running out quickly.

    • if it's legit advertised in their catalogue, then they really should get more stock. At the moment it seems very limited but they might get more for this sale

    • +1

I had the FOMO and paid full price hoping JB will offer the sale… In hindsight - probably not a smart move unless I was ready to pay full price

      • Did you order online? Have you pickup the item yet?

        • I bought it from store at full price…

          • +1

@OZcheepsk8: I have just bought online. I won't pickup until 31st and after a refund. Otherwise I will ask for a refund without having to visit the store :). I am just lazy.

  • You guy when making inquiry call to JB better voice record what the salesman said about 14 days price match refund or total refund if the item was factory packed and unopened. Just in case they said otherwise when returning the product.

    • its not upto the sales people anyway - likely the manager needs to approve

      • +1

Unfortunately, what the salesman said is legally binding because the purchase was based on that information.

  • Does anyone know what colours are available for the Australian market? I saw a youtube clip of an Indian doing a review, and said there is Black, Silver, Light Purple, Blue… not sure if this is the same in Australia or just overseas.

[edit] Does anyone know if JBHiFi stock the Blue version ? I only see Black on their website.

    • +1

I asked the other day in the shop and they said they only have black

      • I would love a blue but at this price, the black it is.

      • Damn :(, the blue one looks nice. Quick Google search only found three places that listed them (blue version) (Kogan, DickSmith, Expansys).. but they're likely Grey Imports.

  • Hey folks, anyone had any luck trying to price match/beat with 'Hardly Normal' ?? I have been told on chat they do not price match (forget beating) for prices on products significantly lower than market value. I was hoping to use my AMEX redemption !!

    • +4

HN will use every and any trick in the book to avoid price matching. If all else fails they will use that "lower than market value" nonsense. I was also hoping to price match but chances are close to 0

      • +2

Just a follow up on this, the stingy bastards have even pulled their v30+ listing on the HN site in anticipation of price matching. Good guy this Gerry

    Hi All,
Sorry if i have done a mistake by showing this post at a JB Hifi.
i wanted this deal and asked them can i buy the $45 plan and use the $200 i get to buy this phone at $479
and the sales girl said this is not a real deal, as she has checked the future 2 weeks catalogue and this is not there.
can this be really true? can this be fake
