      No you wouldn't.

And I would say what a great phone you got for your daughter just remember so not let her turn to another smartphone addict. It is not good for parenting and development

Too many teenages and kids messing around with smartphone, cause it's cool to have one. Don't even bother check where they are walking and don't socialise and in their own world.

      Also neck pains

      • +1

        Thanks for your thoughts.

Actually this will be my phone and my daughter will be getting my old one. She does not need the latest and greatest phone.

This is an issue that all parents need to face at some stage. We are a very open family and my daughter listens to me. I often talk to her about this stuff so I hope we will not run into any problems.

  • Can someone who has bought one and is on either a Telstra or Boost postpaid plan please confirm that both volte and vowifi is working?

    • Volte is working, VoWiFI was I think but I disabled VoWiFi as the DTMF wasnt working on calls that had IVR. (on Telstra)

      • Thanks for the reply. I guess that's why the phone isn't on the Telstra wifi calling compatible list, but still reported to be working.

Got this and the quad dac is really impressive, how did you guys go about debloating it?

    • Better than dedicated Amp/DAC?

      • No. Not even close.

      • +3

Depends on what one/what you're driving. It beats my SMSL idea/audioquest dragonfly red. Gives my fiio x7 mk2 dap a good run for it's money. Sounds as good as my nfb-11 desktop amp/dac although has alot less power. Still enough power to run most things though unless you have power hungry cans.

        • Great. Happy if it can best the dragonfly red and fiio.
Was tossing up between this and Schiit Fulla….

          • @congo: It'll definitely be better than the fulla (albeit will have a bit less power). Anything under 300 ohm's you'll be able to run fine though.

        • Interesting, thanks for the info

  • I got mine today and it can't connect to Bluetooth. All devices appear as "misc". Have factory reset twice to clean to no avail. Has anyone experienced this?

    • better replace it from JB.

    • I'm experiencing the same issue. More like a software problem but will bring in to JB HiFi

    • Didn't someone say earlier this was known issue with Oreo? Though I don't have that problem myself but it was bought from mobileciti not jb and came with Oreo out the box

      • The one I got from jb runs Oreo out of the box too.

    • I got mine from JB Hifi and out of the box with Nougat. Updated to Oreo, when I try to scan for devices, they all show up as misc, but after that will load up the proper name for each device.
Did you try to wait for it to show up proper name?

      • Did your box have ThinQ written on it?

        • It doesn't. But I think it has all the function of the ThinQ after I updated it to the latest update. And when I turn it on, it said ThinQ on the screen.

      • Where was yours manufactured?

        • Hi guys, an update on my issue:

I went back to JB Hifi and when I showed them the Bluetooth problem, my screen showed the million or so Bluetooth devices in the store (hardly any displayed as Misc).

I was even also able to sync to my old smartphone which I had brought along.

So in the end I left and tried to connect my car audio (which is the only mandatory Bluetooth thing I need) and I did get it to work eventually.

So, I guess it's not ideal that most things show up as 'Misc' but if you try hard enough the device you want will appear eventually. Since I've paired with my devices (car audio and a Bluetooth speaker at home) I've had no dropouts or issues.

On the whole I really like this phone. Thanks

        • I just checked and I found mine is manufactured on 24 Jan 2019.

          • @kclaw89: @kclaw89 how did you check the manufactured date?

        • it said Korea on the box.

  • This definitely isn't locked to Telstra? Having issues getting it to register with Optus network

    • It is not locked. I have had mine on Optus and Telstra without issue.

    • I'm on Kogan works fine

  • Nice stuff:

    Iphone X vs V30

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y0yOc09kLM

  • Not surprisingly, still having a bunch of troubles securing one of these in stock at Sydney stores Strand, Pitt St, Broadway, Galeries, World Sq .. all reporting none available "but we're getting some in .. not sure when .."

I asked about getting 1 reserved for when they arrived (and pre paying too), but stores have been strict saying they wont do it.

You other lucky people - good on ya!! ;)

  • Gotta say, the front camera is MILES worse than my s7.

    • What about the rear camera?

    • Try the gcam option. Think it helps a lot.

      • It does & there after there isn't a Samsung phone camera that can beat the v30 on pic quality.

        • for my own clarity, you mean that the GCam app loaded on V30 improves the camera quality greatly?

Edit - just seen RocketSwitch below comment, so to answer my own question .. yes it seems it really does make a considerable positive difference. surprising…. (well to me, anyway)

          • +1

@swampson: Using Gcam with wide angle etc, doesn't help the front camera at all. The front camera is worse than my old s5 and 5 year old xiaomi phone no joke. Rear camera is fine.

            • @ClintonL: How does the rear camera compare to your s7? I've got the s7 and am thinking to buy this.

              • @Narvey Horman: Can't say that i see a difference in rear camera, only thing that annoys me is the processing for the camera takes longer than s7. When i took a photo with the s7 it was instant but on the LG there's a longish delay while it processes the photo which is kinda of annoying.

  • You have to install gcam on this phone. The quality is FAR superior. Seriously, if gcam wasn't an option, the camera on this would be horrible. Thankfully, gcam exists and the camera is AWESOME now!!

  • New V50 in March, presumably with 5G. Expect more V30 price drops?

  • Seems like the JBs in Adelaide area completely out of stock. Rang them and they said all the Preorders have also already been sold

  • Yes all out in Adelaide area. I was just told you can pay and get it at that price when stock comes in (assume thats what PP meant by preorder) . Does anyone know what JB are like for order times on things like this?
Legally I would have thought they have to have a reasonable amount of stock available so I would think they would have to allow orders.

    • +1

why would you pay upfront for rain checks

      • +1

It's a pre-order. A rain-check is an option shops don't have to offer, and they re taking orders for a product the store was clearing out, ordering more in is a goodwill gesture.

        • +1

pre-orders are only for newly released items and not for clearance items.
In this case, it's a catalogue item and rainchecks apply unless stated otherwise in the catalogue

          • @ozdesi: That was my understanding too.
Waiting 2 weeks now…… will cancel if I dont hear something within a couple of days.
At least they seem ok about me cancelling if I have to. Husbnds phone is dying and need phone now!

      • They said it would be 2 weeks. My husbands phone is on the way out so I dont mind 2 weeks but dont want to wait longer. It seems like a good price and has the features he wants. They werent taking rain checks.

    • I preordered a tablet at JB a couple of years ago, they rang me to come pick it up, twice. They gave me 2 tablets.

  • Not sure I can say this, but there maybe a V30 in Classifieds.

    • -2

      Yep there is. In Brisbane.

  • Who has bothered to unlock the bootloader and root the phone? Does that stop things like nfc payment apps?

There's so much on XDA I'm wondering if anyone can confirm they've done it successfully. I'm android 8.0.0 August 2018, so I know I need to downgrade first.

TBH all I use root for is backing up games and occasionally hacking the data, ie: nice to have but not critical, so I'm debating whether I bother.

    • +1

I stopped all that after it got hard fighting with Pokemon GO, NFC etc. Now all my games use cloud saves so no need to root anymore.

Only good reason is to use it to block ads. But I use Google Rewards to slowly buy the apps I use, so they don't show ads.

      • I dropped like 30 bucks of Google rewards credit on the hearthstone CNY bundle lol 😁

  • No stock at JB. The sales rep told me to look online but on the JB website it says only available in store!

    • He means to tell you to go away. You are way too late to this at the $400 price point. On the day this deal came out, it was available for the entire day up to 8PM. Anything after that you're fighting for scraps from whatever pre-order isn't paid for by someone already.

      • +1

More like an entire 60 seconds to sell out 2-3 stock in some stores, or none in other stores. (In the Melbourne CBD)

    • Can you pre-order in store and place a deposit? Surprised no one else has offered a deal on this yet apart from that brief Mobileciti one.

      • Magic eight ball says - outlook is doubtful 😢

        • +3

          Ok, some (maybe) new information.

          1) If you pay in full yes, you can order V30 at sale price IF the store you are at has V30's on order, they have been told that there will be no more V30's beyond these orders. They expect on order phones to be delivered within 2 weeks but wont be drawn on a date

          2) The unicorns do still exist in store, I was told that there are 15 in NSW

3 There and none left at all in WA, 2 showing in VIC but the store guy suspected that they were errors

          4) If you get a store assistant with a bit of determination they will track one down and get the stock transferred, my guy found one in NSW and it is being shipped to WA for me.

          5) Myaree WA has 6 on order, 1 of these is presold.

          Hope the above helps someone.

          • @LauralHardy: 1st hand legwork like this is always valuable to someone on a deal this popular, so thanks mate.

My local JB (Broadmeadows) said they had 'stock on the way' over the phone but wouldn't elaborate beyond that.

          • @LauralHardy: Ordered 2 weeks ago. Was told 2 weeks now they are being vague. Will cancel if not within a few days as husbands phone is dying :(

  • Anybody had an issue with the volume decreasing automatically when using headphones???

    • there should be a setting to disable it
I think it's auto enabled to make sure you don't turn deaf by switching from speakers to headphones at same volume

      • I don't mean when headphones are just plugged in. I do get that, but then after turning it up it gradually automatically turns the volume down…

        • Does your headphones have the vol up/down buttons? Prob it got stuck?

          • @johnnyle: Nah, have tried multiple sets of headphones…. So annoying

            • @MJD91: Have you tried factory reset? if you did and problem still there then it's probably the port.

  • +1

Had one on back order (6 pending delivery) Perth Piccadilly store, checked in store today and was able to collect.
Possibility more available, didn't post incase no stock delivered… Enjoy… Happy hunting!

    • They have more stocks now as you can order it online, but the price is back up to $799 😅
