Same price as the 8GB, so may as well get twice the storage for your storagey needs.

They are slidy ones which you can rip apart if you want a smaller form factor.

For $5.98 you can get the 32GB version too.

Put USB 2.0 in title to save people the click

    • +4

Didn’t even see that TBH. For $4 it’s still good.

    • +3

damn it, I wasted a click.
      have a +1
      .

It was updated pretty much straight away.

For 4 bucks I'm guessing the write speed isn't too "flash?"

      • (but seriously, I am interested to know if anyone has happened to test it)

    • Thanks, I'll know where to stick it.

      • +1

Instructions unclear. On my way to the emergency ward of the local hospital.

    • For anyone interested, got a 32GB and tested, getting around 7.5MB/s write, 19MB/s read.

If MSY is close enough that one is worth the extra $1, specs quote 10MB/s write which still isn't great, 100MB/s read.

    • Damn!! just bought 2 x 16GB!!

      • They accept returns for change of mind

    • Literally just saw this now.

    • That's $2 well-spent. Awesome value!

    • I just bought the $6 Aldi one. 16GB. Damn. Might go and grab this one for work. Thanks!

  • Good for the kids

  • +4

Great for OS image and Emergency disk

    • +1

I install the OSes themselves on these things.

      • Like Hiren's BootPE or full OS?

        • +1

Full OS. Linux. I use it on different PCs, so I can't do a Windows installation. Too many drivers to cater for and too much effort to hunt them down for a certain laptop or desktop which I may only ever use once or twice.

I do it so I can carry the apps, their respective configuration, and various documents I want. I use it at work if I have to, or when I go visit family interstate… and I don't trust the stuff they have on their PCs.

          • @BadGiraffe: Which Linux do you use, and how fast does it boot from power-on to usable graphical interface?

            • +1

@Russ: I use Ubuntu Budgie. Running off a USB 2.0 device isn't amazing, but once it boots up, it runs just fine. Definitely slower to boot compared to Win10. I never really measured it, but I'd say it's less than 30 seconds or so.

These are better value @ $6 - I just ordered a few this morning for C&C.

    Edit: ooops, dupe bamzeros post

    • Better per GB, but if there is a case for multiple lower capacity drives. (Kid's homework might never hit 1GB).

  • I bought a few of the 32GB ones in the post Christmas sales. Yes they are very slow. I can't remember the speeds but I tested and they were slower than the 16GB Sandisks HN was doing (Cruzer blades?) for $5. (About 2/3rd the speed). So far no issues with them.

I really wish the manufacturers would start giving us true USB 3 speeds at reasonable prices instead of producing metric tons of future landfill.

"storagey" and "slidy", I love your technical terms OP =) For $4 can't complain much, just use it for school projects

    MSY has Kingston 16Gb USB 3.0 for $1 extra…
    I'd much rather USB 3.0 than 2.0…

How is reliable is Kinston? Is the failure rate above average ? Who actually makes the memory ?>

    • Just one? I’ve had a handful and they’ve all been fine. Can’t comment on these cheap ones yet. I just wanted them for photo frames I got at a bargain price at Target.

  • +2

Thanks OP, got the 32 gigs one, should work well for music in my car as I'm lazy connecting Bluetooth!

  • Got one. Horribly slow write speed. Roughly 30 minutes to copy 3.6GB.

    • Is that a 32GB? Does yours burst write, pause a second then repeat?

    • +4

If you can find a cheaper stick for simple stuff like taking documents to Officeworks or whatever, please post it.

Aliexpress has usb2 16gb drives for less than $4.

        • Yeah but what if I need one right now and I don’t want to pay more than $4?

          • -3

@cnut: You could try eBay but it’s impossible to find what the cheapest price for something like this is, they are all multi listings. You can only search and sort by the lowest and highest capacities.

        • link pls

        • Irrelevant unless it's the exact same product. It appears you are comparing a branded product to a generic one. Since you have time to google I also suggest reading the voting guidelines.

          • @4agte: Just warning people this is old stock using slow USB2 speeds

            • @AustriaBargain: Your neg was for the reason 'no bargain' - not just to warn people…

              • @upsidedownlemon: My comment was to warn people that these drives are very slow and old, like others came here to warn.

                • @AustriaBargain: Old doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. And some people posted about needing USB2.0. And as a school list item, most students need to copy word documents and stuff. At most a presentation which is 5-20Mb. A USB 3.0 wouldn’t help in this case anyways.

                • @AustriaBargain: Still waiting for the link.

      • purchased a pack of 3x Verbatim 16GB Colour Snap (usb 2.0) flashdrives for $10.98
        — these were on display right next to the above-mentioned 'slidey' Verbatims at my local Officeworks (Hobart,Tas).
