What Powerboard to Buy?

So looking to buy a new powerboard as the one i bought from woolies has a socket that doesn't work in it. Prefer one with individual on/off switches. 4 Port shall be fine although 6 is preferred. Prefer to buy something that will last unlike my woolies one although obviously don't want to pay too much.

The trouble with cheap power boards is exactly what you've found with your current board - some of the sockets stop working.

The reason that the low cost boards stop working is that the metal strips that carry the power between the sockets is the cheapest nastiest "metal" that the manufacturer can find. Inserting plugs bends the metal and this leads to poor contact. If you're lucky, the socket just stops working. If you're unlucky, the poor contact creates heat and you get a fire.

The cheap boards are rubbish. Unfortunately, the expensive boards may also be rubbish - you can't tell without opening them up. And a brand may make future cost cutting decisions that turns a previously good board into a bad board. I'm sorry that I can't recommend anything in particular, but definitely avoid the really cheap ones.

    • Maybe those that come with a guarantee are better bets?
