  • If the SIM is labelled with expiry Dec 2019, can I activate this at that time regardless of purchase date?

  • -1

    Aldimobile $99 365days 12gig on Optus network.

    • Aldi uses Telstra

      • Doh

  • I was just told on the phone, that I can change over to that offer with my current Optus Prepaid number , but their Systems are all down and they can't do anything for a few hours.

*I was talking to Retentions about another matter first, asked to be transferred, they connected me to Virgin Mobile instead, so they then put me back to Optus Mobile, must be all in the one area.

  • Can you still keep your number if you're already on Optus? Thanks!

  • Thanks OP - this Optus deal is perfect for my needs.

I either need to pickup an Optus SIM (on the matching in store deal) ASAP and request porting, or otherwise order online, pay Kogan for another month and register with porting towards the end of 30 day expiry period.

I have a Kogan connection that is will expire this Monday 18/2/19 so needs a top before then (or soon after??

From comments elsewhere, buying in store is probably unreliable and time wasting, so strategically, when would be the best time for me to activate if I get new SIM posted?

Any advice from seasoned plan jumpers or others in the know?

  • Any cashbacks available or available from Coles or Woolies?

  • One thing missing from this is that is no Int'l SMS incl. Does one have to specifically buy an add on pack even if just to SMS those B/Day, Xmas etc greetings overseas?. Anyone know actual requirements/costs to allow this i.e. can one SMS overseas and just pay on a per SMS basis?

    • +1

Based on the info provided by this Optus page/pdf, you will need to buy $10 Extra Credit add on pack (which has 14 days expiry). There is also the $20 one (28 days expiry). If you purchased another credit add on pack before the current one expires, you can rollover the unused credit (cap at $500 max).

20 cents for international SMS (160 characters).
      75 cents for international MMS.
International call charges are country dependent.

So you'll need to pay minimum $10 around Xmas. Or, use cross mobile platform messaging (i.e. Whatsapp, Line, Viber, Facebook Messenger etc…).

      • Yeah spotted that when I dug deep. Semi a deal breaker for me as I do send random overseas SMS's throughout the year. Having to buy an addon pack to send an sms is not worth it (for me).
One would think they would permit one to have credit in ones account to use for things like this. Is stupid to have to buy an add on pack just for SMS not to mention are only valid for a short period of time, silly!

  • Just port my number fro Telstra to optus, I have to say the service of optus is rubbish… I have a postpaid SIM card, and I asked them to add my postpaid and prepaid number to the same account. And they told me they can’t do it… and also , the response time, very very slow…

    • How long did porting take?

Not a very good experience when trying to buy this at Optus Bourke street Mall on Friday. After paying, the Optus person said that she need my license so she could register it. Lord behold, she activated the SIM and give me a new mobile number. She argued that this deal need to be activated at the shop and the deal is for a new number and I can’t port in from Kogan/Voda. I told her that’s BS, then asked to speak to her manager, her manager came out and said that the deal is for new number, it’s shown on the Optus page, I loaded up the Optus page and asked her to show me where it’s said that I’ll get the new number. She then almost begging me to take the SIM and go chat to Optus Customers Service online, I refused and said to her that either I get my existing number port to Optus or I’ll get my refund. Somehow, another Optus person there overheard the argument and asked me which carrier am I with? I told him Kogan. He said, easy, I’ll port it for you. Then about 10 minutes later, it’s done.

Got one from the local Optus store for the missus. It's a shame Kogan did not have as good of a discount and the huge gap from 3gb to 13gb in their range made it less suitable.

  • Can anyone tell me if this sim would work in an iPad? Or would it be possible to create hotspot from phone to use data in iPad?

    • Don't know about SIM in the iPad, but definitely you could use it to create a hotspot with your phone, and use the data from it on your iPad.

    • It would work on an ipad

  • Waiting for my order to be shipped (ordered 4 days ago).

    Anyone else waiting?

Thinking it may have been better going into a store…

    • I haven't receive shipment notification since 19/2

      • Have you checked startrack in order confirmation email.
Last one I ordered on 18th arrived on 20th.

        • I just checked and my order is not found, meaning they haven't send it as yet

          • @yht: same, just gave them a courtesy call and they said its in progress.

I guess they had a lot of orders and are processing them.

          • @yht: I just checked the tracking and it says it will be delivered tomorrow. Yeay

        • that's good yours arrived so quickly.

    • I get an order not found error when I try track it. Ordered on the weekend and it still hasn’t been shipped

      • Just received mine today - ordered on Monday. Hope you get yours soon.

        • Cheers, got a text from Optus this morning saying it will be delivered today :)

  • Unexplained delay by OPTUS on online Prepaid SIM Orders. Order was paid on 18 Dec and told via chat help to expect delivery in 4 working days for urban delivery.

21st of Feb, and I haven't received a confirmation email and the tracker doesn't work yet. Safe to assume order hasn't left warehouse.
    Online assist weren't helpful.

Help for Prepaid Orders is directed to this number : 1300 737 252. Have a number ready so they can call you back.

Not impressed by them not warning about delays. Shouldn't take a week to ship 5km from my house. Its a generic SIM card, not an elephant.

  • Anyone having issues activating it?

    • Store staff advised me to get them to do it to avoid any problems (with Optus customer service)

  • Does optus automatically renew this plan at the end of the 12 months?

    • looks like you'll have to recharge it with whatever new is on offer at the time.

    • Usually only if you tick AUTO RENEW

  • Ported my dad over to Telstra on Friday night and then out to Optus on Sunday arvo and we’re still waiting for it. Tried to give him a call earlier and it goes to a private message bank. Hmmm

    • Porting team usually don't work during weekend, especially Sunday

      • Yeah I know I thought doing it over the weekend they’ll have something to work on first thing Monday morning.. had to follow r up with a call around 12, if I hadn’t I’d probably still be waiting

        • Yeah,I have to always follow up with Optus, especially when their response is a standard have to wait up to 3 working days.

  • What are my chances of success with porting from Catch to Optus on this deal? I have a $2 Telstra SIM. Should I use it or try porting in an Optus store?

    • +1

Hopped onto Optus livechat to ask the above question. The person started the porting process straight away then advised that it will take 15min to 4 hours. About 5 hours later, still no port, so hopped onto livechat again. The person contacted Catch Connect and then spoke to the porting team. Immediately, the number was ported.

So all in all, a pretty good experience porting from Catch Connect to Optus. Would have been excellent if I didn't need to go on livechat a 2nd time to query. Also the livechat response time (instant connection to the customer service rep) is pretty good.

  • You can activate the SIM and port online.
    Pretty straight forward really.
Its probably what the instore staff do anyway.

  • Just FYI - started a port from amaysim yesterday (Thurs 28th Feb) but Optus Live Chat are saying:
"there is currently a porting outage wherein we are unable to complete the transfer. There is no ETA advise."
(this was at 11am Fri 1st Mar)

At least my amaysim service is still working…

Will check later in the arvo or tomorrow if its resolved.

    • looks like my phone has ported from amaysim using the optus online port now.
It took 5 days due to an amaysim/optus port outage. (not sure where the issue was).
As others have mentioned below, probably best to call them if you are in a hurry otherwise its a bit pot luck with the Online Port for amaysim.

  • +4

The online promotion has been extended to 6th March now.

  • +2

Porting from other provider with the same Optus network has to be done via the phone. This is the direct Optus team number: 1300 737 252.

I did the porting from Amaysim today afternoon & it's activated in less than 2 hours I guess. Did the porting while at work around 1pm & only checked at home around 3pm as I left the Optus simcard & phone at home.

    Hope this help.

    • my cousin on AmaySims getting this by monday..required to call Optus for porting?

      • Yes, don't bother to do it online. Call that number straight away & ask them to port.

    • Thanks, I'll give them a go as I'm still waiting for my online application and following up on Live Chat has not helped.

  • Still On Sales?

  • This online offer now extended to 6th of March, I am currently with optus prepaid epic value plan, does anyone know if I bought this do I need to activate it or just recharge my current plan with this one. If must activate it can I keep my phone number, many thanks

    • Normally it needs to be activated. If you want to keep your existing phone number, you need to port out to Telstra or Vodafone (just get a $2 sim, unless you can get a free one) and then back to Optus.

I have heard some people have had success and transferred their number to the sim by calling Optus direct so maybe worth a try before going the porting route.

      Good Luck.

  • Spent an hour on the phone, three operators (including a local guy), but no luck transferring my Optus post paid number to this plan. Sigh. Now porting to Telstra on $2 SIM.

Some have reported here that I need to wait 24 hours after that is successful to port back to Optus…is that the case, or can I port straight back??

    • I don’t know why it’s seems a lot of people have problems porting Optus to Optus? I literally spent 5 minutes in Optus Ballina store, asked to do a sim swap and it was automatically activated. No dramas super quick and easy. Deal ends in a few days so if you want it move quick.

  • In case anyone missed out (or think that they have missed out)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/440667 - seems like a better offer.
