Xiaomi Power Bank Comparison

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a new power bank to use as a spare but have no idea what I'm doing.
The last power bank I purchased was from this deal 5 years ago and it's still going strong.
Can anyone point out the main differences between the new xiaomi powerbanks and my old sony powerbank besides the capacity?
It will only be used to power a phone and small electronic devices - is it safe to leave in a car glovebox?

Thanks!

is it safe to leave in a car glovebox?

Probably, but heat will destroy the lifespan of the battery if you park in the sun.

I'd suggest you get a 12V USB adapter if you need to charge stuff in your car.

    • Thanks for the reply, my car does not have the 12V cigarette lighter receptacle unfortunately.

      • Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a car without a power outlet of some kind (some newer cars have only USB)… That sucks!

    • park in the sun.

Anyone that parks their powerbank in the sun deserves a bulge.

We hide ours under the floor mat in double bubble insulation.

There are different xiaomi power banks. Which one are you referring to?

What phone and things are you charging?

    • From what I gather,
Xiaomi Power bank 2 - single USB output
Xiaomi Power bank 2C/I/S - has 2 USB outputs
Xiaomi Power bank pro - has USB-C output

Just going on gearbest's website for starters, there's also original, original 2 (!?), original ultra thin…
They all look approximately the same and are priced similarly
And supposedly an upcoming Xiaomi power bank 3?

Is there any compelling reason to buy any powerbank aside from the 2C/I/S? Are all these the same product?

      • Depends what you're charging and if you care about fast/quick charging, which is why I asked.

        • Just phones mainly, rarely an ipad. Probably not a laptop. I care about charging stuff as fast as possible i suppose.

            @revacious: So…which phone(s)?

            • @John Kimble: my household has iphone XS, 8+, and I use an iphone SE.

              • @revacious: Ok, so the newer iPhones support USB Power Delivery technology. Not sure about the SE.

If you wanted to charge faster, then you need a USB PD power bank/charger. These are more expensive (naturally) so up to you if it is that important/worth it to you.

Most xiaomi power banks are QC 2.0 or QC 3.0 technology, so will not "fast charge" an iPhone. Quick Charge or QC is mainly in Android phones.

@John Kimble: Right so basically seems like I have to buy the xiaomi ZMI power bank if I want that. I rarely use power banks so I suppose it's probably not worth it over the 2C/I/S then. thanks.

@revacious: If you’re using iphones, especially the newer ones then a powerbank that supports USB C PD is what you’re looking for because you want fast charging. Something like this https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-10000-mah-18w-pd-power-ba…

You need a usb c to lightning cable for fast charging though. Considering that you keep your powerbanks for a long time PD powerbank might also be a good idea for future proofing while retaining fast charging capabilities.

@FuzzyWolf: thanks for the reply. that kogan one seems very cheap compared to the equivalent xiaomi - is there any reason to not buy the kogan one?

For anyone else in future that searches this, I found this deal which was useful to compare some of the new xiaomi powerbanks

Edit for those who find this in future - the kogan ones seem to be a bit sketchy as per this deal

@revacious: Yeah the white kogan 20k was a bit dodgy but seems like their newer 18w one and 26800mah ones doesn't seem to have any issues. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/411275 this was a post for the 18w model that I linked earlier. But from a brand perspective, xiaomi zmi definitely have a better reputation compared to kogan.
