My health insurance renewal is due soon. how are their premiums for a 150k+ salary, obese, 30 year old??

    • What do you do for $150K+ salary?

Sit at my desk and browse ozbargain. If I decide to do actual work 2 days a week I'll pocket my 40k bonus too :)

You could get some exercise by moving your mouse up slightly and clicking.

…where you will find Qantas HI to be pretty pricey. Anytime you go through an agent, you're almost certainly paying more premium/benefit than going directly to the underwriter.

  • +1

Premiums will much depend on indiviual circumstances.

Also note to get the 120K points you need a couples coverage with box max hospital and extras for 60 days. It does cost quite a bit, but it worked out for me when I did this last year.

    • @ spuderump

How long did it take for your bonus points to arrive - I know it says 60 days after holding the policy - but is it quite quick after hitting 60 days?

      • +2

it was spot on 60 days last time.

    • Thinking about doing this again actually, but I remember they have some policy about churning for points, does anyone know what the stand-down period is?

    • "Not available to existing Qantas Health Insurance, nib, AAMI, Apia or Suncorp health insurance customers, or to previous policyholders who have joined and cancelled 6 months before or during the offer period. Qantas reserves the right to withdraw or extend this offer at any time."

Can anyone decrypt this phrase for me? If I signed up April 1st last year, and cancelled approx. beginning of June 2018 (with the previous 120k offer), am I eligible again if I sign up between now?

      • you will be eligible, basically ineligible if you canceled with them 6 months prior to the start of the offer period, assuming the offer commenced in the last 2 months. If the offer started within 6 months of you cancelling then you wouldn't be eligible, ie prior to 2019

        • Thanks for your reply. Still a bit cryptic, how am I suppose to know when the “offer” commenced?

I got a quote a couple of months ago. It was significantly higher than my current insurer, Bupa. Significantly higher as in about 30% higher.

Needless to say, I didn't go ahead with it.

  • Anyone have suggestions for health insurance for a yuppy?

I've just made the switch from BUPA to Qantas.

Fairly painless besides having to pay both premiums the first month, but BUPA will be eventually refunded.

The cover is not as good, however plan to hold for 61 days, collect the 70,000 points and then churn back to BUPA this time signing back up via cashrewards with 6% cashback.

    • looks sweet, that cashback us juicy.

  • Free Apple Watch?

    • +2

      Points or a watch.

      • Makes more sense

  • It's an extra $60 for me compared to say Medibank but I will only get 29K points. Totally not worth it.

    • 29k points worth more than $290…

      You say $60 > $290?

      • That's $60 per month, not per year. $60 x 12 = $720 which is way over the $290 for the points

      • that is the in the first year, so that would be 13X60=$780 for 29K points?

        • Oh $60 per month jeez! That is more than my current cover cost (if I paid monthly)

  • so i selected "not transferring insurance over" as i cbf going through the hassle of switching insurers and thought it would be cheaper as less admin for qantas but its $118 a week for couples at top hospital and extras!!

so basically $1062 for 9 weeks [63 days]

can i buy qantas points at that rate?

    • I don't think there is any legal way of buying Qantas points.

      • You can buy them directly from Qantas, but they need to be a supplement to a redemption of some kind. Say you have 50k points, but you need 60k for a flight award, you can buy the last 10k from Qantas but it's more expensive than buying at the current 1.2c per point on the private market.

The upside is you won't get banned for buying from Qantas.

        • actually at $0.012 - 120,000 points is $1400+ so this is the cheapest way to get 120k points

  • It's a no for me!
$551 for something I'm currently paying $385 for with medibank.

Mind you, I'm on corporate cover and also have top hospital and extras cover and currently pregnant so I'm not really in a position to change provider anyways

  • Waiting period for the following is 12 months:
    Appendix removal
    Dental surgery
    Additional hospital service…..etc

    • +1

Even if you change from another provider?
