            • @[Deactivated]: When you say it like that you're only looking at a tiny part of global lawsuits and you aren't really correct.

Apple initially won a ruling in its favor in the U.S. but later the United States Supreme Court decided 8-0 to reverse the decision from the first trial that awarded nearly $400 million to Apple

Samsung won rulings in South Korea, Japan, and the UK.

Samsung won a limited ban from the U.S. International Trade Commission on sales of certain Apple products after the commission found Apple had violated a Samsung patent.

The lawsuits you are looking at are for a number of design and utility patents.
Patent lawsuits happen all the time in the technology sector.

That's very different to stealing designs and using them to beat your competitor to market

@spaceflight: That's exactly what Samsung was doing.

      • First generation of this one.

        • -4

It's a first generation phone to have a folding screen.

Folding screens have been around for years. It is not a first generation folding screen.

Please learn to think and understand.
This phone does not use a first generation folding screen.

It is a first generation phone with a folding screen.

              There is a big difference.

              • @spaceflight: "It is a first generation phone with a folding screen."

                BINGO. Ya got there.

Splitting hairs failed you, repeatedly. Keep trolling, kid. I'm out

                • @Ulysses31: I'm not splitting hairs.

You can't understand that a component on the phone is not a first generation of something and that because this is the first phone with a folding screen does but make it a first ever folding screen.

This is not a first generation folding screen, it is not even close.

Have you bothered to read anything I've said?

Maybe you should take your own advice and

      • Examples?

        • -3
          • @spaceflight: Yes but both Samsung and lg have been in that race for years as proof of concepts only. This is the first consumer device to market. So it is a first gen device of it's kind. PoC's don't count.

            • -2

@Trishool: There is a difference between proof of concept and first generation.

The proof of concept foldable screen would have happened a long time before 2016 and existed in research labs and the first generation foldable screen happened years ago.

This is the first generation phone with a foldable screen. It is not the first generation foldable screen.

Curved TVs have been around for years and are a much earlier generating foldable screen.
So are the curved edges on the S8.

              • @spaceflight:

There is a difference between proof of concept and first generation.

Yes i know, i said the exact same thing.

This is the first generation phone with a folding screen. It is not the first generation folding screen.

Again, i know. But thanks for clarifying.

Curved TVs have been around for years and are a much earlier generating folding screen.

Curved screens are not folding screens. Totally different technology to get a screen to bend and stay in a specific position than making a screen that folds over and can do hundreds or thousands of times without breaking.

                • -1

@Trishool: Fixed curved screens are an earlier generation of foldable screens.
The first step is getting screens to work when they are not flat.

Without having fixed curved screens we wold not have the Galaxy Fold.

As I said above this is the first generation phone with a foldable screen. It is not the first generation foldable screen.

                  • @spaceflight: "The first step is getting screens to work when they are not flat."
They had to get them flat first.

    • +4

      What idea??

      • To take all the monies.

      • bendgate…

    • what (profanity) idea? Apple has never said they are making a foldeable phone stop talking shit.

    • +8

      Apples idea was unintentional 'bendgate'

    • +6

Don't know why you are getting negged. This made me laugh, absolute madlad.
Thank you Tim Apple, very cool.

      • +2

I think the problem is sarcasm is pretty hard to detect via pure text, especially in the absence of a "/s", reddit style lol

    • +2

can't believe people don't get this humour

    • So much woooosh.

  • +1

    LOL

Apple: HEH! 2.5k iphone, no ones done that before!

    Samsung: Hold my Beer…

    • Apple: 2.5k for virtually the same phone as the one we are replacing, no ones done that before.

      And they are right.

      • +5

Thank you Tim Apple, very cool

    • @aarent - Whilst current model iPhones are a gigantic rip off with nothing really new and interesting, you also have to factor you're also paying for the ability to use IOS (still over priced for a phone though) Apple can be really innovative, it's a shame they haven't been able to come out with a phone as revolutionary as the S10.

I've been using iPhones nearly all my life so not too up to date with Android phones but the S10 seems like a significant jump from the S9 and the features make it great value at the price. Judging by previous Samsung phones as well you'd probably be able to get a few $100 off in a few months as well. Unless you have some need to use IOS you'd be better off buying an Android and pocketing the difference.

Hopefully this forces Apple to drop prices on their new iPhones (doubtful) and actually bring out a worthy competitor to the S10.

    Bought 4 with my mortgage.

    • One of those mortgages that you pass onto your kids?

  • Can this be added to the new must have items of Ozbargain? The new eneloops currency?

    • The new Tesla Model S. At least until Huawei Mate X $5k phone shows up.

  • A $4000 flip tablet…

    • …with a plastic screen…

  • +5

I am not buying a folding phone until one is free with optus $45pm contract.

    • +5

You must be very patient person 👌

      • +2

I am a very patient person with anger problems, so I am not buying a first generation of anything, because I know it will be riddled with all sorts of issues.

so I let all the impatient people pave the road for the progress. they are beta testers really, but they pay for product they're beta testing, which is odd.

        • +4

They don't think it be like it is, but it do

          • @bargainparker: at any rate, I will never ever pay this kind of price for a gadget. be it a laptop or a phone or a tablet, no matter how advanced. do I need a folding screen? I couldn't care less, so if this is what progress is like, well, lol

    • I didn't find any very old iPhone free on $45pm contract. You will save $45pm by waiting for that free plan with no phone.

      • nonsense, there was iPhone SE very recently. but who said anything about iPhone? I am talking about cutting edge innovative technology, this has nothing to do with apples :) I ditched all apple products ages ago, and haven't missed anything, I feel.

  • +5

A high end laptop and phone still cheaper than this experimental gadget.
Dell XPS 15 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop $2799.20 (JB)
    Plus
    Huawei Mate 20 $930.50 (Catch)

    • +3

True, but you need massive pockets to carry Dell XPS whereas with foldables you need less plus you get extra space from a thinner wallet.

      • +6

on the other hand, i will be more productive with a laptop & phone

  • +7

This eBay seller is selling iPhone 7 Plus for $3000 this seems dodgey

    From a dodgy seller?

    • -2

post a better price for it

      • +1

'Official pricing hasn't yet been revealed for Australia but we do know that it will start at US$1980. That's about $2800 locally and then you'll need to add GST.' So essentially $3000 MAX. This seller is NUTS!

        Source: https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2019/02/samsung-galaxy-fold-au…

        • You linked a price guide but this post is best actual price going in Australia it seems. If you can't actually find it for cheaper at this point in time then you shouldn't neg it

          • @Joey Jo Jo: I revoked my neg - reason being is that he may actually have the stock early somehow which might be where the 'deal' is…but if this is a preorder I suggest people to hold off. The page does seem pretty dodgy.

        • You mean $3k min?

        • Aussies enjoy 2 year warranty instead of 1.

And I expect a warranty will be handy with this device :P

        • the seller is selling an iphone 7 plus for $3000

      • +1

        $3699 with Student Edge

post a better price for it

  • +1

    iPhones are cheap now :-)

    • +1
