Need Suggestions - Laptop to Record Video Interviews

Recently graduated and need a new laptop to record video interviews. I've been applying for graduate programs and noticed that most of them have a video interview stage. I'm currently using a $300 dollar laptop (dell inspiron) which I found off Ozbargain and feel like that it is not working well (not hd camera) and poor mic quality.I would be using the laptop to browse and record video interviews. Can anyone recommend me a laptop suited to my purposes? Is it worth investing in a Macbook(i'm a windows user and would just be using it for this purpose)?

you mean video call / skype ?

use phone or external USB webcam (logitech C920/930/Brio 4k ,etc.)

almost all built-in laptop webcams are potatoes

    • Second this.

Have a C920 and the audio and video is amazing.

      • It would be video recorded interviews, where they would provide a question and you would need to answer on the spot. It needs to be a laptop because there isn't an area in my house that looks professional and free of noise.

Have you tried your mobile phone?

    • I have not but am unsure whether it would let me record the interviews

  • Yep Logitech HD camera , blue yeti microphone.

Blue yeti is $180 at officeworks easily the best microphone for this sort of thing. Logitech webcam Upgrade will be ~$70

All laptop mics are shit. Even a $2000 MacBook Pro one.

If you don’t need a better laptop for other purposes than i wouldn’t bother upgrading.

I know the microphone is expensive. If anyone knows of a cheaper one then maybe that’s better.

    • Thanks I'll take a look at it

      • Tbh the blue yeti mic is overkill, great mic just not needed. I would get some earphones with a mic and pin it on your collar with the earbuds tucked out of the way so it doesn't look too dumb.
I've also previously used cheap earphone with a mic and just chopped the earphones off so it ends at the microphone and then pinned it near my collar, looks almost professional from a distance. Plug them in to the laptop and the sounds will be fine for what you're doing, you can also correct the audio afterwards if you want. $5 solution rather than the $180 for the Blue yeti

        • Actually that’s a good idea, just a set of earphones should do the job.

I wouldn’t worry about it looking “dumb” or unprofessional. I use a headset or earphones daily at work.
