Living Social - Referrals (ie get three friends to buy and you get yours free)

I have never bought off of Living Social previously, but today (12 May) they have a great deal in Perth. It is for a really good restauarant in Mosman Park where I have eaten before. It is only 52% off, but a good deal since the quality is there.

I have referred two friends by sending them emails with my referral link. (Which is https://livingsocial.com/deals/44484?ref=conf-jp&rpi=1095534… if anyone is interested in buying the deal and inadvertently helping me out! ;-> )

What I am wondering is whether I am notified if and when one of my friends buy this deal. If they both buy, I might get someone who is not interested in the deal to buy it, gift it to me and I would pay them for their purchase.) But I'd like to know whether my friends have bought before going to that trouble.

Has anyone done referrals with LS and do they keep you updated on the progress of your referrals?

Thanks!

  • Yes they do keep you up to date with your referral's puchase via email. In fact they are really good with buy 3 get 1 free, I would like to set up a forum (similar to the ent book voucher swap) to generate common interest and group buying within group-buy deals! LOL!

Good luck with it and you can certainly just set up another account to buy more =)

    • Yes, we should set up a forum for this. Great idea. I hate asking friends who aren't clued in to buy. They are happy to use my vouchers, but they are too lazy to buy their own. (or too smart).

    • think that would be great idea!

  • Living social is jumponit!

    • Yes, but jump on it doesn't offer a freebie if three referrals buy the deal.

      • Ah ok. Just making sure people know.
        :)

Actually I am not sure if that referral actually work at all or not
Because I bought a fish & chip deal in Perth and I know that 5 of my friends bought the deal through my link on FB. That is equivalent to 14 sales for LivingSocial… however never got my free f&c as promised!

I don't mind at all, but would be good if they don't put fake promises!

    • Mine worked last time, they actually don't send you email when your third friend bought it, so you thought they didn't and keep marketing for it. When I know my third friend bought it, I keep an eye on the invoice they sent to me, and it had a discount of the entire voucher on it so amount due for me is zero, and it never appeared on my credit card.

Great idea about group-buy, thought not sure how to work out the logistic of it, like who's purchasing, who's paying and how to share the costs etc…any suggestions welcomed =)

There would have to be a very high degree of trust.

Perhaps the easiest way would be for a new forum to be established and the first person who bought a particular deal would post their deal link. Others who were going to buy anyway could buy off that deal link, in the hopes that next time they saw a deal they wanted, they would be the first one off the rank and would get the referrals. Otherwise, I can see it being open to a lot of abuse and people getting cross when others in the "group" didn't buy subsequent deals as "payback".

        • Would join if the system is in placed! Then we can all help each other out ^^

        • i think ppl should just post link for which ever deal they buy. not just first person. cause what if more then 3 ppl wants to buy it.

not sure if they tell you who bought deal from your link, if they do you can keep a record and next time if you need to buy one see if the person who helped you already posted a link.

if different ppl post their link then u can choose who's link to click dependig if they've helpped u or not. works better that way.

hence the more ppl u help then there's greater chance of others returning the favour!

      • Oh so they have a credit system?
Meaning if you have 3 friends who bought it off you, then you don't get charged for that voucher?
I thought they 'give you another one for free'!

But with that being said, I just checked my CC and still got charged for 3 coupons. Would expect at least 1 or 2 free if my friends about 14 coupons in total with my referral link…

        confused @ how it works

        • i think only the 3 counts hence crap if u do refer more ppl and get nothing for it.
it's better to get ppl to sign up and get the $5 credit and once you know they are members then buy deals together to get the free one.

  • I used this voucher last night with my BF.

I have not been this livid and let down by a restaurant for more than a decade. This is MARETTI restaurant in Mosman Park and it sucks.

Chef's coice of wine was undrinkable. I had brought two bottles to allow "full optionality". I was charged $6 corkage even though the provided bottle was absolute crap. Unbelievable, wine is so cheap nowdays there is no point in having a crap wine in any restaurant. You can get decent bottles for $6 or $8.

I had previously eaten at this restaurant. My daughter and I had the 7 course degustation at $70 each. They short changed us one course, but we had eaten too much and took heaps home anyway. This 4 course degustation is on the menu at $65, so you would reckon that the courses would each be at least as big as the ones in the 7 course degustation. Wront. Maretti Restauarant has gone totally rogue with this Living Social offer, in my opinion. Everyone at the table had to select eith "meat or seafood" - to make things simple for the kitchen. The meat course had lamb which I can not eat, so we both had to have seafood. The entree was salt and pepper squid. A small entree portion. I later saw the normal entree portion, which was 3X as big. Then the pasta, which was a seafood marinara risotto, was tiny and way overcooked. One smallish scoop. The little amount of seafood in this dish was rubbery. Disgusting! I picked all of the seafood out. The rice was cooked to a mush. Pathetic attempt at risotto. The "main" had 3 bok choy leaves that had been topped by tiny pieces of either red mullet or red snapper. The pieces, if compacted, would not even add up to the size of a deck of cards. These pieces were obviously off cuts from the dishes they were sending out to other customers. The breadcrumb-ish topping was good, but the fish itself was not cooked well. The dessert was served in an appertif glass and was about 30 - 40 ml in volume. It was pathetic. The restuarant was packed out as it was a Saturday night and a lot of western suburb types like to stay close to home. I saw several other families from my daughtes elite local school.

These tightasses at Maretti restaurant in Mosman Park have done their dash. Mosman Park and Peppy Grove is a small community where a lot of people know each other. I am going to bag them every chance I get and push Tsunami and Anna's/Cognito, as well as Mosman's.I am going to ensure that there are no parent events held at this restaurant. AS a past class parent, I have a bit of influence and I will puch for Twisted Fork, Lamonts, and Mosmans for events.

I was so embarassed by this event, I told my BF to wait outside while I gave them a serve. Unfortunately, one of the mums from school was nearby. I gave the cashier the $6 for corkage and refused the 10% off voucher, letting them know I would never return to that sh—hole. Meanwhile, my BF is outside talking to another family from my daughter's school..

The majority of people that Maretti restaurant got in the door with this disgraceful offer will be from out of the area and will not return at any rate, but they really miscalculated when providing such crap food and crap wine as they will piss off a few locals who WERE regulars.

This offer was not even all that great - it was 50% off. Undrinkable wine and food, that, added toeghter did not even equal a main course each. $79 to be insulted, embarassed and waste my time. Thank you very much Maretti restaurant and Living Social.

If any Ozbargainers hold this Living Social voucher for Maretti restaurant, they should try to flog it on ebay or try to get a refund.

  • I sent a rant to Living Social last night and today they sent me a $20 credit. While still mad as hell as Maretti, I am happy that LS did not tell me too bad - redemption problems are between you and the provider.

Maretti also did not provide bread to voucher holders. They did to everyone else in the restaurant. You could tell who the voucher holders were if they were drinking the crappy wine and had no bread.

    • So this + the natural source drama = $40 credit back? Not too bad I'd say as you've managed to redeem both vouchers.

      • Better than a lot of people, but I really would have preferred to have had the expected experience at Maretti.

I think perhaps the key to minimising disappointment in restaurant deals is to stick to ones that allow you X amount of stuff off the menu. The ones with "tasting plates", fixed items etc are more subject to abuse by the restaurants. I remember seeing people complaining about seafood platters, etc. The kitchen would probably know that these are voucher deals and might be instructed to short them.

I am taking my BF to a couple of scoopon places towards the end of the week. One is downtown and includes a tasting plate and any two mains and any two desserts. The other one is The View in Freo, where Liddleone had a great experience. The "danger" at The View is the wine is chosen by the restaurant. The downtown one includes two glasses of wine. Those and the tasting plate are the risks. But both deals have enough other components that I think we'll be right. I doubt we could be as disappointed as we were at Maretti.

        Thanks for your support.

    • Sounds like Living Social have excellent customer service. Good result.

  • Personally, same experience with living social where apparently I wasn't allowed to order sushi at a sushi restaurant. Not in the terms/conditions at all. Owner of the restaurant said that she wrote it on there when she did the deal, not her fault it doesn't show up on the actual website….seriously???? Living social said bad luck, you've redeemed the voucher.

Never had such problems with spreets. Anyway……seriously it's only a matter of time before someone sets up the forum right???? Would be so awesome if 1 in four of the people could get free deals.
