      +1 for the laugh :)

  • I've got to say: I'm having so much fun with this thing that I've just ordered 4 more. For friends and family.

If anyone else can knows something else as addictive and fun to learn (and just plain cool to see in action!) for $20 I'm all ears.

I'll add this: the first few flights were as others described: too much stick and it tapped the roof, over-corrected and it bounced off the floor, 5 mins flight time.

But…as I'm getting better I'm learning to level off the motor and adjust without over-correction. It's stable and responsive as all get-out and the flight time must be up around the 8min mark. I think the constant throttle abuse is what chews up the battery, so get good and fly longer ;)

  • Yeah I've been really loving mine. I'd like to find the next model up, if it's even possible.
Would be good to find one with the ability for a standstill hover.

  • how long is the learning curve? I heard this is meant to be a very easy copter to fly, and was hoping i'd be good with it as soon as I took it out of the box.

    • It's easy, just be gentle… get good at maintaining a steady hovering height first

I think if you are over 40 like me its all down hill my 16 and 19 year old got the hang of the $5 Syma S107G helicopter in seconds i gave up and sat in my rocking chair and drank beer !

  • Outside on the grass is great if it's not windy! But if you panic with the throttle on max it might end up on the moon

    • I took mine outside.. bad idea.

It's infra-red controlled and guess what the sun ray's contain :) - thankfully I got it back under control before it flew over the fence and to the moon!

      • haha lol. i was hoping i could use it outside in good conditions, look like i cant :(.

might be pretty cool at night time though with the lights. How far away can you fly it from you?? I could launch it from the top balcony and fly it out over the pool and bring it back to me maybe, if the range is good.

        • +1

I reckon the safest place would be an undercover car park at night or early morning, dunno how far but if you do try to fly it over the pool please set up a camera :)

  • anyone have recommendations for a more advanced heli? say $50-100 or so budget and rf instead of ir?

how's this? single rotor looks more fun.

  • So has anyone got a broken one they would like to sell/give me that I can strip for parts?

    • Just keep buying them, they're still only USD$23.99! :)

  • bummer didnt get mine today

  • anyone else got their chopper that shipped around the 30th may?

A minute's silence as we remember nubzy's helicopter. Shot down making the perilous journey from china to our golden shores.

      (raises glass) To nubzy's chopper!

      • +3

They'll make a movie out of it, Ridley Scott can direct…"NubzHawk Down"! :)

        • +1

Nubzy's chopper mustve been tied to mine - still MIA :(

Wondering how long to wait before I start whining like a Torana diff

        • LOL, that's a blast from the past Wampus…I don't really have fond memories of my old LJ Torana, and yeah those whiny diffs usually needed a ton of banana peels to shut them up! :p

We don't know if its KIA.

It might be just held for ransome.

For which we'll need another movie : Proof of Life 2 LEDs in Distress.

"Pay the ransome now or we'll send him back one rotor at a time".

Got mine today, shipped 19th May :)

    • got mine today too, also shipped 19th May

  • haha wtf, most people that got theirs last week shipped on 25th. yours came late ;)

  • The chopper has landed!! Flew him for a few minutes and crashed him heaps of times lol, gonna take some practice.

  • damn I flew mine up into the skylight and then signal dropped out and it plumett to the floor. still works :)

Mine arrived yesterday, but too late to go to Post Office to pick up.

    Neigbourhood cat beware.

  • Mine arrive last week, I find the battery goes flat very quickly which is disappointing. Very hard to become a pilot, I crash land mine all over the place :)

  • After a few emails with lightake telling them of my helicopter that simply wont fly, they've said i can return it for a replacement. however it cost me $19.35 for the cheapest way to send it back to china, so essentially ive paid double and need to wait probably over another month until i receive my hopefully working helicopter. I've sent them an email saying ive sent it, accompanied with photos of the package and post office receipt (as requested) and asked to be compensated for paying twice as much for returning their dodgy product.

TBH, I probably would've just bought another one & used the current one as spares for future erm, mishaps! Coz the way I fly it's not an if, it's more of a when am I gonna need parts! :)

I've just ordered another @ USD$23.99 & a Syma s107 @ USD$19.99! I'm gonna play "Ride of the Valkyries" as they fly thru the house! ;)

      • yeah i realised this when i was at the post office, as there is no point sending it back.

  • +2

Lol, just flew it into the dogs water bowl..

it started flying around in circles. Put the hairdryer on it and now it works all good again. its a resilient chopper :)

  • Mine shipped 21st May and arrived today (8th June) - faster than I was expecting.

Anyone know if any locally and easily available rotors will fit on this chopper ? Ive drained the battery 5 times today and am getting better at flying but there are a few dents in the rotors.. and they only give 2 spares.

    • Most of the parts look remarkably similar to Syma S107 bits! :)

      • I found this site that sells the F103 bits (incl other colour chassis etc) but you need to use a postal forwarding service like Bongo to ship to Australia

        http://www.thinkrc.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=f…

        http://www.thinkrc.com/bongo_shipping.php

        • Nice find. But the shipping is too expensive, especially once the Bongo step is included. I'd prefer to just buy another chopper and use the broken one as a donor……unless we do a group buy and bring in a heap of blades etc. Who knows which are the common bits that break ? I broke a side fan pod tonight :( Superglue doesn't work.

        • (answering my own question)

search ebay for "f103 parts" and you can find blades etc about $5 shipped to Oz.

Can anyone confirm that the s107 blades are the same ?

  • Yeah my rotors are really dented as well, doesn't seem to affect the flying though so im not really too worried. Still would like to find some spares in case.

  • +2

Just got mine in my hands.

I don't know whats more fun, flying the chopper or reading spelling errors in the 'Using Instruction'.

  • After you've mucked around with it a bit, try taking the weights out of the flybar (top most weighted rotor) (just unscrew it).
To me, it makes the little thing a lot more responsive and a whole lot more enjoyable to fly!

I think I'm going to buy a Blade mSR tomorrow. This bloody helicopter has got me hooked and reading about collective pitch rotors has be awfully excited (going an mSR before getting a collective pitch)

    • Like you, I'm bloody hooked.

I googled and youtubed Blade MSR.

      That got me hooked too.

Where are you getting yours from?

Thing is that one doesn't come with a control….

      • Yeah, 2 models, RTF (ready to fly) and BNF (bind and fly… meaning you need a controller)
Note that there are also 2 "modes". Mode 1 has the main throttle on the right, mode 2 has the throttle on the left. I'm going for a mode 2.
I'm getting mine slightly used from the Helifreak forums… There is an eBay listing that will let you get it new for US$160.

Eventually I want to get a Blade mCP X. This is one that is capable of acrobatics as it is a collective pitch helicopter.

  • Mine shipped 19/5 and still no sign of it. :(

    • Was yours shipped via HK Post or China Post? The people who got theirs earlier might have been with a different postal service.

Ordered mine on the 17th, but PayPal held the order up until the 30th :(

      Current shipping status (China Post):
2011-06-05 departure from outward office of exchange, , AUSTRALIA,

What that means I don't know, its somewhere in Australia I hope.

  • hi, did anyone buy 1 through ebay at $13 with seller of 0 rating? there 2 new seller with 0 rating selling it at $15…. want to buy but afraid it might be a scam….
