Recommendations for Home Builder in Sydney for Heritage Conservation Area

Hi Ozbargainers,

I recently purchased a house in Sydney in a heritage conservation area. It came with development approval and plans to subdivide the block and build a second house.

Being in a conservation area, the house has to fit in with the look of the rest of the street and surrounds.

It's also on a sloping block so the construction will require substantial earth works.

Can anyone recommend any good builders that would take up work such as this?

      • I didn't realise that was a conservation area. Is it O'Brien's Estate?

I'd start with a decent architect or designer as you'll need engineering specs and drawings.

The foundations won't be an issue for an experienced builder nor will following a plan / design.

My BIL has done many places in conservation areas, either new builds or renovations. He is local to you but I think he might have semi-retired in the last 4 months. He's also expensive as his work is very high quality and his methods a bit "old fashioned (45 years experience).

PM me if you want his number. He's about to go on holidays for a month and is project managing a job for GRC but if you can work with his time constraints he's worth hiring.

        • Thanks brad1-8tsi.

Yeah, it's O'Brien's Estate. Probably the only reason the whole area isn't appartments already!

I think I already have all the designs and engineering plans I need, but I could be wrong.

          I'll send you a PM.

  • I'm an Architect from the Central Coast - I have a Heritage builder from Sydney that will be interested this sort of project. If you're interested please PM if you would like his contact details.
    Thanks.
