Returning Item via Auspost - Asked for a Manifest

Hi
I was trying to return an item I received damaged in shipping back to the retailer for a refund. They provided me a prepaid label which I attached to the package and then took to the post office. When I went to the counter, the employee asked me for a manifest, which I didn't have. They said that if I didn't have the manifest, I'd have to pay for return shipping. I made a post on the Auspost forums, and an employee assured me that the label was prepaid. Has anyone else had a similar experience and know what to do? I've returned packages in the past and never been asked for a manifest

  • Is it an international shipment?

    • No. Domestic

      • I've been asked for a customs declaration and a packing list for international, but not for domestic.
Once I needed special documents as some of the items contained Li-ion batteries. Don't think any of this represents your predicament.

        Try different post office maybe?

        • Yeah I was trying to return a cricket bat. So I doubt there's anything volatile about that. Might have just been the employee had no idea what they were doing. I'll try again next week

@WinstonWithAY: Australia has a very sensitive and fragile ecosystem. Auspost may be interested in knowing where the wood was sourced from, how it was treated, where it was logged…

            • @[Deactivated]: I bought it from an Australian store. Doubt that's the issue

@[Deactivated]: I believe it is actually related to the ball tampering issue. Since then, all cricket related goods face extra scrutiny.

Try a different one, auspost is notorious for doing whatever they want depending on who you ask. Try another store, or even a different counter

    • Yeah. I'll head to another one tomorrow and see what happens.
