Electricity and Gas Supplier for Sydney New Property

Need advice on new electricity and gas supplier as I am going to rent a new place to stay. Anyone can suggest a cheap but reliable company that I can go with?

Have a think about whether you need a flat rate or Time of Use (Peak / Shoulder / Off Peak rates). Flat rate might be better if you are out during the day.

I'm on TOU and am trying to get onto a flat rate as I think it will save me ~15% as I leave for work @ 6.30 and am home ~17.00 (according to my nerdy electricity usage spreadsheet).

I've been with Amaysim on a competitive rate for 12 months. My Elec bill was $800/yr. Amaysim recently increased rates by 20%. I was going to go over to Simply Energy which would have kept me on $800/yr
I rang Amaysim this morning and told them I was moving on if they didn't offer me a better deal. They've offered me flat rate with a discount and it looks like it will be $600/yr due to my usage patterns. Just waiting on a couple of answers in writing and I'll do it.

  • My builder has gone with AGL.

Really depends on who can provide in your area - start with comparison websites (iselect, compare the market, etc) and then sign up directly with the provider

Watch out for high discount rates which do not necessarily reflect which provider is cheapest - their $/kw rate or day rates will often be higher so not as good a deal as it may appear

  • after moving to sydney i found 2-3 to be around the cheapest, i went with alinta, mainly coz theywere a bigger brand name that specialise in it and also generate their own power so they arnt just a re seller, their customer support is pretty good too and short wait times, i used to work for them while back in Adelaide in the corporate HQ before they almost went belly up. the plan they give in nsw was better than the employee plans. the fair go 27.5% plan is what im on i think, no gas at my place sorry cant comment.
