Exchanging a Gift. Is It Always Rude?

Ok After the boyfriend fiasco, I feel like I am asking for trouble posting this but here goes.

I got given a gift of 2 Hoyts lux tickets. And while appreciate them I would like to exchange them for normal tickets, not Lux.

There is one reason for this. No Lux cinemas in QLD at all. Hoyts are more than happy for me to use a LUX ticket in a normal cinema but I think that's being silly and a total waste

    No, it's fine. End post.

So you cant use the LUX tickets as there is no cinema, but you can use them in a normal cinema……….But you want to exchange them for normal tickets to use in a normal cinema?…..Don't both have the exact same outcome and one doesn't require you exchanging tickets? Or are you expecting the cash difference to be returned to you….Because if you are….seriously WTF….

Just wanted 4 tickets instead of 2…. same value.. just not $40 thrown away i am even happy to send the extra two back to the person…

They bought LUX because they wanted to do something nice.

      I totally appreciate that.

I do see it as a total waste though if i cant used LUX because it doesn't exist where i am. They are interstate so wouldn't have known

    Sell them.

    • To me that would be rude… still going to go to the movies as they intended

Sell them and you can buy four standard movie tickets.

      • How would they know if you sold them and bought Gold Class/vmax ones you can use?

      • It is also rude to give someone tickets to a venue that doesn't exist in their state.

Got my pitchfork ready right here…

  • It's a lovely gesture. If it was from my family or friends, the tickets would have already been regifted.

Will you be telling the person who gave you the tickets that there is no LUX cinema in QLD when you use or exchange them?

By the time you sell them, you'd be settling over a few dollars. Can you contact Hoyts and ask if you can exchange them for gold class or something better than normal?

  • Sell them (then buy standard tix with the money) so they don't know they stuffed up. Keep them believing they did a nice thing

  • Youre thinking too much here.

  • Classic case of overthinking.

  • sell it on here for 80% of the value and then buy new tickets.

  • If I was the gift giver, I would be happier if you managed to sell and get more normal tickets rather than wasting a LUX price ticket on just normal ones

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?

  • Gift giving is a wretched tradition and I am & always have been quite open about my opinions on it, therefore I save a lot of money and so do the people around me. Nothing more wasteful than a bunch of unwanted/unsuitable items being exchanged with a smile & inflated self-value to substitute real companionship & relations.
You should know what you want & need, and those around you should know what they need. I think ownership is a primitive concept of selfishness, nothing truly belongs to us, material things we buy and/or acquire for ourselves, are merely being borrowed.
Just my opinion. It’s your choice, you can do what you want. For your health.

    • Wow. Just wow…. you must be so much fun at parties

      • Surprised, that your surprised I guess. The internet where you can hear from people normally outside your circle.
I apologise if it came across too heavy.
You may be whoever you are and still have the opportunity to go to ‘parties’ that’s ok.
Just passing by. Have fun. For your health.

Edit: to answer your question. You can do as you want with the gift.

    • nothing truly belongs to us, material things we buy and/or acquire for ourselves, are merely being borrowed.

Yes. Please return your house, cars and belongings to me, ty!

  • Can you get a refund on them unused or exchange and double your money? They are a major chain wouldn't be the first time but can't see them handing over cash

  • Hoyts bassically saod too bad. You can use them in a normal cinema. That was their idea of customer service. They are doing me a fovour by allowing that
