The discount applies to base fare only and does not apply to taxes and all other standard market surcharges.

It's translated to about $30 off $1000 spent when I've used similar discounts.

Still, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

    • +6

I dunno… what discounts are there for pokes at the moment?

  • +2

I flew with Qatar to Vienna and paid $1586 in peak season. The actual fare however was $875, with the rest being surcharges and taxes. Fuel surcharge was a whopping $506 (who knew fuel was a special extra charge when operating an airline?).

Bear that in mind when calculating a 12% off offer. It would be $105 cheaper, not $190.

    • Here was me thinking the fare was $1586 …

No. 1 2017 and No. 2 2018 alongside well priced fairs. The capitalist in me is still going to fly Qatar.

      • +1

surprisingly Royal Brunei ended up 78th
I've found their service to be on par with Singapore/ Malaysian
only difference was the absence of booze
surely that can't make them 78th?

      • Shit inflight service, poor meals, and very aggressive on cabin baggage weights - only airline in 35 years of flying that weighed my cabin baggage and then told me 7.5kg is too heavy (so I put my tele lens in my pocket). Add to that the transit in Doha being a 1hr wait in an enormous queue to get bags rescanned, yeah just what I want after 15hrs in the air. And one of the worlds most expensive airports where there's lots of seats at the cafes because nobody wants to pay those prices. Yeah cheaper up front, but the sensible capitalist in me says the reason they are cheap is people don't fly them as a preference. But hey if it drives prices down I am happy for others to fly them.

        • Our experiences are starkly different.

      Hi texx…

Pretty sure that an entire company shouldn’t be boycotted because they don’t share the views of 4.5% (based on Gallup poll data) of the population. Other cultures have different views on things, that might even be a part of why people travel.

But let’s decide to boycott a company based on your misguided ideology.

p.s. I heard a (baseless) rumour Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar and Tiger use cage eggs in their meals … does this trigger an outrage episode for you.

    • +10

Not unsympathetic to your point of view but if you're going to boycott airlines because of their government's human rights records the list is very long. Etihad? Singapore? Malaysia? Garuda?
You can add Qantas to the list because of the Australian government attitude to asylum seekers.

      • -2

Their criticism directly relates to the owner of Qatar Airways, which is the Qatari government. That does not apply to Qantas.

    • +3

So no one should fly Qantas due to Australia committing war crimes overseas

eg. attacking countries that are not attacking us such as Syria.

      • That example isn't a "war crime". You might argue it isn't a just war but you can also easily argue that it is.

  • +5

Hey texx - maybe don’t conflate an airline and a government. Maybe test your thinking - Do you have the exact same views about everything as the company you work for? Does the company you work for have the exact same views as the government? Does a company have collective views or is it a group of individuals with diverse ideas? Should we be boycotting companies based on group identity? Good luck with the whole left wing, delusional communist ideology there buddy. The free market kinda means you don’t need to share social justice warrior opinions like this one champ!

    • -3

Maybe do some research yourself before calling others out?

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar_Airways

"As of May 2014, the company is fully owned by the Qatari government"
"Qatar Airways, is the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar"

They will most certainly do exactly as the government demands..

      • -1

I’m impressed at how you SJW types think Wikipedia is research but putting that aside, I never said the Qatar government didn’t have controversial views and I never said the government didn’t own the airline. But to anyone with the ability to undertake independent thought you could probably figure out that the policy of a government doesn’t inherently mean that the services provided by a government owned subsidiary should be boycotted.
Stalin shot everyone who disagreed with him and this call to boycott is grounded in the same ideology. Don’t like them, don’t fly them but I don’t think anyone is on ozbargain for moral advice from you clowns.

        • Stop building strawmen to cover your own foolishness. You sound like a right wing think tank drone speaking of independent thought.

          • +1

            @Diji1: Dude,
Calm down and hear what the man said .. he’s speaking a lot more sense than you !

            • @Yimmy: Is it still OK to post Michael Jackson eating popcorn gifs?

          • +2

@Diji1: Not sure that you quite understand what a straw man is. The idea that you should create a situation of organisationally punishing people for having a different point of view is the proposition in both cases. Perhaps read a book and you may discover the difference between a straw man and an equivalent premise. You may have to venture beyond Wikipedia which I realise might be scary but I believe in you.
Also a think tank is a collective, so not sure how I as an individual can sound (I think you mean read) like a think tank.

            • -2

@Gibson16: Are you suggesting that you support the goaling of gays?

              • +3

@texx: That was a big jump

              • @texx: What kind of insane question is that? I haven’t said that at all. Other cultures have different views and laws and that’s up to them. The airline didn’t draft the legislation. This is a bargain website, there is no need for virtue signalling, that’s just advertising ignorance and stupidity - BARGAIN WEBSITE. Either like the deal or get on with your day.

                • -1

@Gibson16: The owners of the airline drafted the legislation….
If ISIS posted a bargain on here I'd neg it too. Same same.

                  • @texx: So the Qatar government is the equivalent of ISIS now? I think you’ve perhaps exposed your cognitive threshold. Just for clarity’s sake, Qatar airlines didn’t post a bargain here, an ozbargain user who thought people might like a deal did. So even your ISIS comparative analysis doesn’t make an iota of sense.

                  • @texx: @texx Mate your logic is (profanity) absurd, might as well stop using all these brands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_involved_in_… because they were involved in the Holocaust

                    • @BigTone: Those brands stopped supporting the holocaust 50 years ago.
Qatar is a shit bag now.

  • -3

Qatar Airlines should be boycotted purely based off human rights abuse in their country. Qatar Airlines is owned by the government who are ultimately responsible for protecting its citizens and visitors, which it fails to adequately do.

    • +2

Mate I got news for you. You are free to do as you choose being lucky from Australia. You do not need to force your views on anyone or any country. Don't like how other countries treat gays (most recently Brunei in the news)? Don't fly there. Don't like their human rights record, avoid them. Don't like x or y or z, well you have choices. Imagine if some crazy twisted muslims tried to force their sharia law policies and views on Aussies? You wouldn't like it would you? Everyone has different views whether you agree with them or not. End of flame.

      Thanks OP for the post.

      • +3

You do not need to force your views on anyone or any country.

Posting in the comments section of a deals website is hardly forcing one's views on others. You could always just not read them.

      • +2

I’m not trying to force me views onto anyone at all? Just stating some facts so people can make informed choices.

      • If you can’t beat them - convince them! (Or join them)

    • +1

You may as well boycott Emirates, Etihad and a whole slew of other carriers then, if you think that way. Guess you wont be travelling OS much.

  • +9

Thanks OP, don't worry about the PC brigade here, you can never please everyone.

    • -3

Yeah don’t worry about Qatar’s use of human slaves… it’s all right cause it doesn’t affect me. (profanity) Qatar, and it’s oil money corrupt shithole.

      • -1

That oil they extract and sell to you so you can drive around in your inefficient car which releases carbon? Or is it your human right to pollute the world?

  • +3

Its a subpar bargain due to extra charges that dont reflect the true amount you end up paying

  • I just tried booking and it said that my mastercard was not valid with this offer. I'm assuming you need a Citibank card? Spent half hour going through the booking process to find this out in the end.

    • I ended up booking with Byojet. It was actually cheaper + coupon code. Straight after booking, I was able to 'manage my flight' through Qatar website :)

      • what was the code you used?

        • EASTER2019

  • Maybe they read the tangential comments and decided we're not worthy!

  • Just tried to use this code with no success at the end.

Reason being payment must be made on a Citibank MASTERCARD - mine is a Citibank Visa card and it was refused. Other non-Citibank Mastercards also rejected.
