Hasn't the takata airbag recall been advertised on TV for like the last year?

    • +1

      Last 5 years at least

    • Takata went bankrupt back in 2017 because of it. This is very old. The intial deaths were in 2013.

      • The deaths go back at least as far as 2009, in cars made from 2001 onward, but the issue didn't become public until 2013.

Best to check your car, because state governments are looking at restricting and cancelling registrations for cars that have not completed the airbag recalls.

    • It's not news that they need replacing, but it might be news that the car company is finally coming to the party.

My car is still on a "to be recalled in the future" list… I think the manufacturer is hoping the car will erode to dust first.

      • Yeah, I have heard that some manufacturers are stuck because they need to replace the whole airbag and need to wait on a manufacturer to take up the work, while some just need a check/small part to rectify the issue.

I have been lucky that all my vehicles that have been affected, none of them needed the airbags replaced and only needed to be checked.

      • Toyota have had replacements for some time. Even to the extent that if you got a letter, it was a guarantee that they could replace it in the first week.

The issue is the stage 1 airbags which can be really bad.

I've even heard of them going around someone's house, where there Toyota was on a hoist getting parted out, and they had to replace the airbag

OP have you been under a rock?

And for those living under a rock it is many different makes and models, not just Toyota.

      • Thats why I didn't quote the toyota part ;)

        • GMH have been snail mailing Holden owners about it since last year.

  • So now that takata’s gone bust, who pays for the recall?

    • Joyson Safety Systems and the vehicle manufacturer.
