  • Any one with Solar panels who are with AGL ? Are the feedin rates competitive or good ?

    • Depends where you are. I'm getting 20c in QLD from AGL.

      • I am based on VIC .. Currently with Red Energy paying 28.12c/KW and 1.072 supply charged with 11.12c as feed in tarrif.

I did see the Solar plan with 20C feed in rates but their supply charges were huge $1.40c per day

i just signed up for their 20c deal in NSW

wish i'd done it pre-summer when I got the new solar install done.. would have been a few hundred less than the regular bill I got
Not necessarily the best time to sign up now, but with the promo $ the winter months will even out with the summer and still should be decently ahead for the year

    Hi ozb family
    All ways try using https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au
before getting any electricity/ gas connections.
Don't fall for the offers and see how much is the connection charges, something we may ignore. Some of them are charging more than $1/day now a days.

    • I second this.
As others have stated in this forum, AGL info is difficult to find and decipher. AGL (and some other retailers) seem to intentionally make it difficult for consumers to compare.

Some consumers may also like to consider non-cost related information of potential retailers, such as the ethics of the company, their regulatory compliance / non-compliance history, etc. I realise this is OzBargain but the $$$ can be outweighed by other factors in some cases.

    • Hi APN Adelaide, whilst that site can be helpful, i don't believe it takes into account upfront gifts/credits. IE you might be saving $70 a year on plan they choose for you, but you would be better off with $100 in your pocket upfront compared to $70 savings. Just a thought.

only problem is their site doesnt count any kind of solar contribution/FIT in their calcs, making it kind of useless for anyone with a solar setup that produces more than they use..

where are the rates listed SIMPLY?

I can see a web page where it wants my postcode and other details, and then it prompts me to select a plan from a list of about 10!!

Typical of AGL to make it as hard as possible…

Having done the legwork for this yesterday, I agree that it was a lot harder to find AGL info (as compared to the Kleenheat website). But here's the link for WA rates for gas (the only service I looked at): https://www.agl.com.au/help/rates-contracts/standard-contrac…

If you're in another state, maybe it'll divert you to your state info if you follow: Home -> Help -> Rates and Contracts -> Standard Contracts

      • Check out whatever.com.au
You can easily pull up the rate tables for any company.
And they aren't paid shill's, they make money by selling a subscription service that alerts you when a cheaper plan comes out

    • Hey pjm, If you click Compare Plans, you'll see three options - all are linked to the Gift Card offer. The rates for each plan are shown clearly further down the page. If you put in your address, the rates should update according to your location (it defaults to your capital city i beleive when you enter the page to give you approximate rates).

  • I'm Qld feed in 16c and 28% pay on time discount

$0.25 per kWh as well I'm happy

I'm in WA and qualified for the $50 gas gift card (through the online bonus for direct debit). The plan is comparable to Kleenheat's direct debit option, in terms of rates for supply and per unit. The only difference would be:

KH: ~4c/day for account service fee v AGL ~6.8c/day for account services. Over a 90 day period that equates to around $2 per statement, which times 4 quarters = $8/year. By my calcs, the gift card of $50 will offset this cost for 6 years.

So then the tipping point is that the AGL discount of 40% is higher than KH's discount offers. From the website, KH's discount for direct debit is 35% (and recently 39% was offered to me in person). So there is another benefit of AGL having a higher discount of 1-5% discount.

In terms of electricity - we don't have many options besides Synergy (if at all) in WA. So I can't comment on that part :)

QLD - Switched last week from AGL to Alinta. Was on 30% discount with AGL, argued about a bill discrepancy then worked out Alinta with its slightly lower base prices and slightly higher feed in tariff was pretty well the same on paper as AGL.

If you do take up this plan with its pretty poor 24% POTD, then after 30 days ring up and say you want 28%, or even 30% if you have the Alinta rate sheet in front of you to negotiate with…

  • If you don't need to the pay on time discount - AGL have 'Solar Savers'. So for a 24-month contract you can get your normal feed in tariff (44 cents for me) plus 20 cents per kWh. I'm not sure if this is available just through their website - I had an online chat to get it.

    • (44 cents for me) plus 20 cents per kWh.

      crazy FIT
that legacy old government FIT offer stuff?

      • Just the 44 cents. Slumming in thanks to the QLD government, only lasts until July 2028 :)

  • The plan that offers the free giveaway is normally more expensive than a different plan that the same company offers without as much advertising. Same deal with insurance, superfunds, supermarkets, airlines, phone plans, it is all factored into the price, the fine print is boring, people will always be suckers for “free” stuff even if it costs them more than they gain

    • Hey Stewardo, whilst this can be true, this offer has been applied directly on top of all plans available online (probably excluded some other special offers), and the rates of those plans didn't change when this offer was introduced.

      • How do you negotiate, with an online only offer? I would never sign up for agl plan with negotiating a discount. Why is it online only?

  • Saver and Solar Saver show sign-up credit also.
