Whilst this is true these are getting harder to find sold separately to the duo pack

  • Bargain, paid $1079 with grinder 27 months ago, great machine.

    • How much better is it really than the normal grinder included version circa $600? I have been using the single boiler all included model for several years and trying to understand what the almost double price really improves on (better steam, making multiple coffees faster?). Have been using the 600 odd dollar model for about five years, and it does seem to do very well already.

Well good for you, what are you worried about then? FOMO lol.

        • I was thinking about replacing my coffee machine at some point, is there anything you are aware of that this machine can do (apart from saving you a few seconds between the shot and steam function) that the other cannot (for the additional $500)? Trying to figure out if it is worth the extra spend when it comes time to replace the current model - if that makes sense?

@Budju: Have you ever heard about rabbit hole?
            This is an entry. :)
I saw people buying Breville Dual Boiler.
Few years later they a looking for $3k+ espressos machine explaining how much better espresso it will make.

@SickDmith: Yea but like, if the only selling point is saving 3 seconds each day cause it has TWO boilers, i'm not sure I value my time that much to make that worth while.

If it actually makes significantly superior coffee (which would be hard, the $600 model makes good coffee) then I would consider buying.

Your friends who bought those two machines sound like they went a bit overboard.

Had a dual boiler paired with a Baratza grinder before, sold as I moved in with my partner with her own sunbeam em7100. Brewing quality is slightly less with EM7100, but volumetric extraction makes it easier to work with, and less fuss with dialing in the grinder with new batch of beans. The steam is less powerful, but built in thermometer is a nice touch. I have not used BES870 before but I believe the performance is in same league as Em7100. Found the new BES878 on Bing Lee which just released few weeks ago, also comes with thermoblock design instead of boiler cylinder. Unlike bes870, it has volumetric extraction vs time based, and has new pancake thermoblock thing that allows steamer start up in seconds. Just bought this as I’m getting new job and moving away soon, it also has 20% discount with plugs and not mentioned in this post.

I've had the bes900 for well over 5yrs. 450+ coffees per year.
Pressure recently dropped and very much overdue for a service.
Sprung a leak from one of the valves, software update, repair etc came to $400.

Spewing about this deal as if I'd known, I prob would've pulled the trigger as I think they're good machine.

    • Yep I wouldn’t spend $400 on a 5 year old machine. My 920 has done near that many in 27 months. No problems yet.

Yeah, when I looked the other week, they were 1k and given that I've never serviced it, $100 for the service and $270 for parts (really 370) for which its probably saved me $2k per year in buying coffee from the local shop, I can only slightly be content with paying for it….

  • Thanks for posting.
I'd understood was only going to be available packaged with smart grinder with not particularly cheap deals so had been searching 2nd hand.
Happy to get new, now waiting for delivery.

Is it normal that when I froth milk, the sound is loud, comes from behind like a Diesel engine, not the hissing sound i would expect?
