2019 Hyundai Elantra Sport - Price Guide

Hi everyone
I am after a Hyundai Elantra Sport (2019)
There are basically no other threads/internet forums about this car because it is so new and probably not too popular as a vehicle.
I am wondering, in your expert opinions, what an accurate and 'good buy' ballpark price would be.
I am after a manual transmission one. White colour.
The problems are:
- there aren't that many up in the air for sale ( as an example, carsales has 11 total ads Australia wide)
- it's a new model

(avoiding any discussions about its appearance/others here, I like it and that's really all that matters for me)

Some quick figures:
$32728 - Driveaway price inc ORCs - Hyundai website

$31680 - Demo carsales (AUTO (dual clutch), not manual)

Would it be realistic to aim for 10% off DA price? 15%?
For your convenience: 15% off DA: $27818
10% off DA: $29455

Thank you.

It's a new model & not many advertised so i doubt you'd get 15% off unless it's really unpopular.

Wait a few months for all the early adopters to pay RRP and a discount will be more likely.

Except OP wants manual. This isn't a car that would sell in any form of numbers in manual, hence will likely be a factory order or rare as hens teeth.

      2 scenarios:
      1. Car is a factory order, dealer hesitant to discount
      2. Dealer got lumped with a manual car and wants to offload it, dealer very keen to discount.

So in short, if it's in stock you'd get a good discount even now. If it's not, then it'll be minimal.

      • So even "sporty" cars in manual aren't popular anymore? How sad.

Modern manuals are so easy to drive - even in heavy traffic.

          sports car in manual, yes

          "sporty" car in manual, no

Why on gods green earth would you want a manual? Resale alone will be abysmal.

    • +1

Because I like it? Irrationality overrides judgement. Been the mantra of humans since days of old 😁😅

      • Fair enough, as above, I doubt you'll be getting a decent discount as it'll likely be a special order.

    • Closest resale thats appropriate for comparison is the old SR turbo model 2016

      Redbook:
      Manual price guide - $16,700 - $18,700 private sale - $28990 when new
      Auto price guide - $18,100 - $20,200 private sale - $31290 when new

Depreciation after 3 years then… auto holds 61% value manual 61%

that said the new one has a dual clutch auto so i guess its really just personal preference and traffic habits

Anyway to answer the OP try one of the online car brokers and just shop around a few prices plus just keep looking for some lowball offers from dealers.

having dealt with dealers recently they are best avoided IMO… all promises until the deal is done then youre just another number in the book.

maybe a better discount strategy is to bundle accessories into the same price figure, e.g. do you want a towbar? roofracks? floor mats? etc

      • Except Redbook isn't a marketplace, it's not a comparison of real-world depreciation. Hell even those figures are below what's advertised.

The actual results show 15 automatic vs 1 manual around the country for Elantra SR Turbo. And that manual is a private seller. Dealers would be scared of manual.

all promises until the deal is done then youre just another number in the book.

And that happens if you're just a phone call, "what's your best price" etc. Build some rapport with the local dealer and you'll get support. Go across town where they don't care about your business afterwards (because you won't service your car there) and you can find service like that. Not saying you definitely will, but it's a stronger likelihood than your local dealer.

        • Not going into detail with a dealer or my personal experience but let's just say there's a reason they are one of the least trusted professions. And no I wasn't a "whats your best price" guy. I was the guy who knew exactly what we wanted and needed stock as I was ready to buy.

          Anyway good luck OP

That's because it's ugly as sin. The pre-facelift SR Turbo looked alright though…

      looks are always subjective.

I have a 2007 Skoda Octavia. I thought it was pretty ugly when I bought it and that opinion hasn't changed. It's timeless beauty very low on the scale.;-p

What about this Whirlpool thread titled "2019 Elantra Sport"

    • Thanks codexd. Didn’t see that, appreciate it
      No mentions about price though

Caradvice review is very complimentary about its looks and that it comes in manual, so you’re not alone.

Thanks guys. Ended up getting it for 28.5, incl interior lighting and window visors, full tank of gas (pfft), ORC inc rego etc. Insisted and could’ve gotten 28, but couldn’t be bothered driving to the next dealer in the off chance they let me go. Overall no regrets re. purchase, the biggest take home lesson from reading the forums here is don’t look back and if I am happy then that’s really the important point!

    • +2

that's odd, i was expecting another thread - "Bought new car for 28.5k - Good deal?"

      • +1

Most people who post that are a subtle flex than really people trying to attain information. I don't partake heh
Just trying to comment a follow up in case there is another one-in-blue-moon Aussie that's after the same thing

Also, pre much any 'bought new car at x' is inherently a bad deal because it's a new car insert stuff about moment you drive out of dealership depreciation yadayada

It's called petrol unless you got LPG

      • Thanks for the nitpick. It's just written on the contract that way, i'm aware that we use the more accurate term 😁

        • +1

          Apologies for the nitpick.

The Americanisation of our language is doing my head in. It's worst among our (much needed) immigrant population who have learnt much of the English idiom via USA TV shows.

On topic, i think it will be a great car - especially in that body shape.

My manual 1.8tsi Octy hatch is just a shopping trolley but was remapped to 140kw/320nm 160,000km ago and 2nd/3rd gear around town makes me giggle still.
