Using Different/Multiple Rewards Program to Book Hotel Stay

Due to insufficient total points, I used 3 different rewards program to book 1 night each for a 3 night consecutive stay at a hotel.

For example:
Crown Hotel on 01/07 - 03/07
Citi rewards (01/07)
Flybuys (02/07)
Qantas FF (03/07)
All under same name/person.

Has anyone done this before? If so, how was the experience? I fear that they will force me to check in and out 3 times and allocate me 3 different rooms throughout my stay.

  • I fear that they will force me to check in and out 3 times and allocate me 3 different rooms throughout my stay.

Your fears are correct, this can happen, or you could get the same room.

You'll cause confusion as the staff will see the room up for a 'end of stay clean' but you'll have your stuff in there!

  • OP I suggest you give the hotel a call in the morning and let them know what you have done. Let them know you are staying 3 nights, would like the same room, and you don't need a full room service each night. Just be nice and polite and I'm sure they'll appreciate the heads-up.

    • The problem is this hotel is in a foreign country and English is not their main language. Should I just tell them this during the first check-in?

      • Usually there is someone there that can speak good English if they are in a tourist area. Otherwise email them.

  • +1

Would suck if they forced you to check out at 11am each day and wait to move your stuff in to a new room at 3pm!

    • They'd have the right to do so as a 1 night booking would state exactly that in the booking agreement.

  • OP, they won't do what you want automatically. I've booked family and friends into hotels before with me all under my name. That's 3 x bookings under my name but with different start and end dates. They do not know what's what until I explain on the day. There's next to no chance that those 3 bookings have automatically been lined up for the same room each day, and we have no way of knowing how bookings are lined up with inventory, it would differ from hotel to hotel. You are absolutely going to need to let them know in advance before they book 3 different rooms on different dates based on availability on that day and then book other people into those rooms directly after each 1 night stay.

    • And how did that go for you? Were they nice enough to accommodate your request? Did you let them know in advance or on the day of the first check-in?

      • It went fine, because making multiple bookings for different people doesn't require the hotel to do anything on their end. It's just multiple stays concurrently booked by the same person

  • I do this quite frequently (and we travel a fair bit) never had an issue UNLESS I have booked different room types. The good hotels (especially where I have status) will sometimes upgrade my entire stay to the best room that I have booked.

    • Good to know thanks, mine are all the same room types as well. Did you inform them ahead of time or during check-in?
