29" Ultrawide Vs 32" Monitor with HD 7850

Hi all,

I'm planning to upgrade my 23" 1920 x 1080 monitor to either these two (budget $300):
- https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AOC-Q3279VWFD8-32-LED-LCD-Gaming…

My current setup and requirements:
- CPU: i5-3450
- GPU: HD 7850
- purpose: mostly web surfing, YouTube and working (Word, Excel, Power BI etc.)
- gaming: Minimal and consists of older titles (e.g. Fallout 4, Homeworld). I don't play FPS.
- movies: none – that's on the TV.

Questions:
1. Will my HD 7850 be good enough to drive the 29" ultrawide or 32"?
2. Will I get more out of the 29" ultrawide or 32"? I was initially set on the 29" ultrawide (basically my 23" stretched out wider) but I am now considering the 32" because it is no wider than the 29" ultrawide, has similar number of PPI but just taller (i.e. more usable space)
3. Anything else that I need to be aware of?

Thank you.

  • Can I just say I just upgraded from 27" to 32" - I find it a bit too big (who would have thought).

I think the 29" will be better.

    • Thanks. I’ll reconsider but seriously tempted by the 32” purely from a size and resolution perspective.

Even though not as wide but due to the resolution, I’ll still be able to have two Word/Excel documents fully opened side by side.

I did look at a 34” ultra wide but at $500 for an OK 1440 monitor, feels too much.
