Dell Optiplex 9010 SFF - IGP DP to HDMI Cable

Anyone successfully powering their hdmi monitor with just a dp-to-hdmi (m-m) cable through intel iGPU DP port motherboard output?

Most internet posts says can't. Need to get an active adapters.

But I found an old posts here saying otherwise.

By contrast HDMI passive adapters are supported natively by the DP (and DP++) spec.

  • I had the a 9010sff.
My VGA tv got replaced by an HDMI tv.

The 9010sff doesn't have audio in the dp.
So I bought a dual HDMI 4k video card that fit.

It used too much power and blew the PSU. I bought another PSU .. I blew up too. Each PSU would last six months.

I gave the computer away and bought a nuc.

    • so the onboard dp port worked fine using the dp-hdmi (m-m) cable outputting video to your hdmi tv,
just without audio, is that right?

      • Can you throw in a cheap dGPU ?
        (Low Profile, Single-Height, PCIe-power only)

        There's the GTX 650, GTX 750, GTX 750Ti, GTX 950, GTX 1050, GTX 1050Ti, GTX 1650, and GT 1030.

      • Oops, my reply never got posted.
        Dunno.

Ah. dunno, I didn't try the DP port with the HDMI converter because I wanted audio.
        or maybe I did. Dunno.

I have a Lenovo m92p and I used a similar cable in the same situation just fine. They are much cheaper on eBay. I say take the risk, it's less than a coffee.

  • We (still) use these at work and the have a Radeon video card, so make sure that’s uninstalled from the MB if you want the onboard graphics to work.
