Telstra Prepaid 12 Month SIM $200 (150GB Data, Unlimited Calls/Text, Intl Calls to 20 Countries) @ Telstra

7320

First time posting so be gentle.
Just noticed that Telsta is trying to stay competitive with Boost etc.
Original price $300 - slashed to $200 for a 12 month Plan, with 150Gb of data. 20 Countries with unlimited international calls.
Seems to be a very good deal considering that Boost is actually more expensive (but… less data).

WHATS INCLUDED
Unlimited calls and texts to standard Australian numbers.
$100 Extra Credit for international calls and texts, roaming and premium SMS.
All inclusions for use in Australia

btw - You need to scroll down to see the offer.

Anyway, Enjoy.

        • Ordered a $0 SIM card yesterday. Waiting for it to arrive.

          • @FerBargain: and you can activate anytime; no limit; no expiry; the key is that INT #.

          • @FerBargain: Has sim arrived? Plus, got the $200 recharge voucher handy yet? If not, please PM me.

      • Mine activated today :)

    • Voucher? Where do you get that?

      • 711 or Telstra shop

        • Thank you! :)

    • -1

Are you able to provide a reference number please?

Agent on live chat is asking for one.

      Thank you!

    • Would you mind sharing the chat reference number? thanks heaps!

  • you will get ref. number from them.

  • No luck getting a helpful Telstra consultant this evening…

    • Me niether… no one is willing.

  • If possible please ask the Rep to speak to his / her supervisor
As some of the rep have agreed for the above workaround it is sure that there must some guidance from their corporate office as I understand that many of their to be customer are disappointed with out of stock SIM

  • +4

So tomorrow is 5th August, and still out of stock. So this means it was only a “while stocks last” and anybody who didn’t purchase on the first day missed out?

    • It looks like it.
Anyway, telstra sim out of stock at telstra online store.. plain stupid.
Also they kept everyone hanging with false hope instead of just saying no more. I don't get their approach.

  • So none in stock yet.

  • +2

Contacted Telstra today, online agent advised they will activate the online offer for me, I just need to get a $150 Sim TODAY from a shop (not online) and they will activate it, The downside is it has to be activated within 3 days as that's as long as their reference number supplier to it will last.

DM me if you want the reference number to assist you in getting the same deal.

    • pm'ed

    • +1

      DM'd :p

      • +1

Not received :/ Sure it was me you DM'd?

        • Oops. Lol :)

          • @Uncle Roger: Could I also get the reference number please. :) The online operator is not being very helpful

    • Weird, i was told my ref number has no expiry, so i can activate anytime. I will check with them again just before recharging $200 when the time comes.

      • Yeah I hope the guy got it wrong, I'll check again tonight

        • I was told similar, although they weren't very clear tbh

      • Yup, no expiry, what was promised is locked into that INT number.

        • This would be amazing, as my Lebara only expires next month….

          • @Uncle Roger: but each interaction number is different. Different promise applies to different interaction.

            • @tempura: Oh, so I should have asked them for an INT reference for my chat also?

              Oops.

  • I got the same solution from Telstra rep. However, no extra 50GB though

    • They honoured it for you based on the reference number?

      • No. I whinged initially and he offered me the solution straightaway without any reference number.

  • +10
  • On the phone (online chat) to them now trying to sort this out, seems painfull, been half hour so far

  • I was offered same solution but I think they appear to be having problems switching it over to the correct plan now that I have bought everything

    • I expect that from them. That's why this work around thing is not my preference. But better than losing the deal completely

      • +1

Ok, they say they have done it now, fingers crossed. I need to work out how I can check what plan I am on.

        • All the best. I will be following the same thing today for myself and wife. Fingers crossed.

          • @ashftc: An interesting thing, the chat person knew I had chatted with them before without me telling them… I just said I had heard other people had been offered these work arounds and I would like it myself. They said ok, gave me a ref number and sent me to the shop

            • @wolvesaussie: I think probably a lot of people have been asking about the sim back in stock, which they don't have it yet so this is the workaround they have offering network wide I guess

  • I did the work around. A very smooth and streamline process. Bought the sim, ported and activated, recharged $50 in a minute, went to live chat and it was done before I even knew. Thanks OP for posting. After 10 days of closely following, I am DONE!

    • Do I need to go to a Telstra shop to get the SIM, or are there other places I can get it?

      • +1

I am not sure. I think $150 sim cards will be hard to find at other stores

        • my local 7/11 didn't have any.

      • +1

The live chat person told me that they can be found anywhere. AU Post, Supermarkets, 7/11 etc.

Dunno if that's reliable info though

      • why don't you get a blank sim card then buy $200 voucher from 711 ?

    • how do you know it actually worked? I am in the same circumstance, but they took a long time to fix it up once I had purchased an topped up. Would like some reassurance it has worked

      • I checked in Telstra 24x7 app. From 60 GB 6 months expiry it changed to 150 GB 12 months expiry

        • Nicely done! :)

        • were u already a telstra customer? I cant log into MYaccount on Telstra, they told me it would take 24 hours… maybe i should try the app

          • @wolvesaussie: I was previously with Telstra ported out to other network and port back in again today. I had my ID created just merged my service on my account and it was there. You can also do it online on PC. Register for my Telstra ID and it should be good to go

            • @ashftc: Seems messed up, tried to register, said I already have a TelstraID… so I try to reset it, says sorry your password recovery was unsuccessful :(. Maybe I do just need to wait 24 hours

              • @wolvesaussie: Create a new ID with another email if you have one and then link your number under that ID. See if that works.

  • Seems messed up, tried to register, said I already have a TelstraID… so I try to reset it, says sorry your password recovery was unsuccessful :(. Maybe I do just need to wait 24 hours

  • Just a heads up, I spoke to another agent just now, and they've said that it MUST be activated TODAY to take advantage of the offer.

I'll have to wait until next time :(

    • Isn't this offer expiring today 5th of August? Not sure if they have increased the period.

      • Yes, but everyone's being told different things by different chat agents, regarding when they have to activate by…

        • Yeah.. surely they're not aligned.

        • i was made that promise that i will still be able to activate the $200 offer for $300 inclusions by next month. at the end of the day, it's down to your chat transcript; whatever written there is the proof of what you be able to fight for and normally they (corporate) will honour whatever promise given to you by the agent in that chat transcript. in other words, if the agent made you that promise that you will be able to activate in 6 months time (extremely saying) and you reconfirm by reiterating the question again and if the agent said yes, there is no backing down from that. I've tested this by doing the second chat few hours after and i got a different agent; what I did, i gave her the INT number and asked her to read thoroughly. of course, there will be hiccups but just have to say it's all written in the original chat transcript. rules of thumb is make sure that you have the chat transcript emailed to you.

          • @tempura: By next month, do you mean before next month? Or anytime in September?

            • @Enjoyer: in my arrangement, it's early September 2019.

      • +1

Thing is if you were lucky enough to buy the actual sim kit, it expires in 2021, meaning you can activate it anytime before that.
This offer is for purchases made by 5th, not activation by 5th.
The ref number secures the purchase, I hope.

    • I just spoke to an agent. He told me I can just purchase it online and activate it when it arrive using the reference number he gave me.

    • I got told I have until The end of the week. Queried Saturday and they said yes.

    • I just spoke to an agent tonight, this is what they told me when I asked if I could renew at the end of the month when my current prepaid plan ends:

      Bakelite
      at 21:56, Aug 5:
Does this need to be activated straight away? My current prepaid plan with Telstra is paid up until the 29th August

      Jerwin
      at 21:57, Aug 5:
You can wait until the 29th of august for you to maximize the credit no worries this $200 sim is documented on your service account anyway.
      Jerwin
      at 21:57, Aug 5:
so you can chat us back anytime.

Was just told by Telstra online chat that they hope to have the packs back in stock soon. When I asked about the promo expiring I was told: “It about to end tonight at 11:59 Pm. but you don't have to worry we will make an update about the extension of the promo.”

    • +2

I don't know what to think anymore lol.

Don't understand why Telstra can't give over the correct information for once and for all!!!!

      • Ha ha, agreed! They’re not doing themselves any favours.

      • Considering how popular it was, no doubt they will bring it back. The Head of Prepay at Telstra will be demanding more stock asap so he/she can hit target and get a juicy bonus

  • Anyone wants $200 recharge voucher for $190? PM me. I have decided to stick with my current plan.

    • -1

expiry? where was this voucher purchased from?

    • PM'd

  • Did the work around ($150 sim and $50 recharge) for two sims yesterday. One went smooth in first go. Second one, person on chat didn't know what he was doing, said it was done but it wasn't. Closed the chat and tried again with another rep and all good now. Reflects 1 year expiry and 150GB data in app.

  • i purchased two of these on24/7, one has been delivered and number was ported in 15mins with online chat, now just hoping to get the 2nd sim

    • Lucky you… when I couldn't even get 1. :)

  • Now 40 and 150 sim kit are on promo, while 300 one is still out of stock.
Are they trying to clear their sim stock?

    • Those aren't very good deals tbh… at this point I'll probably just be recharging my Lebara for another 6 months @ $95…

  • +1

A few friends of mine got it done with a $2 sim and $200 voucher from the local pump. They just spoke to live chat who converted it to this offer.

  • +5

Been asked a few times for the screen shot of the bonus 50gb for those who did purchase a $300 sim. Enjoy.

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/9572/71511/offer_detai…

    • Anyone have any luck getting the extra 50gb applied?

      • Thanks to @2cats, I was able to get this sorted within a few minutes after getting through the queue.
They just asked for my name;DOB and service number.

        • Hey, I got a $2 sim (for free) and intend to recharge $200 to get the offer, I did have a reference number for it. Would I be entitled to the extra 50gb?

          • @FerBargain: Sorry mate. I had the original offer prepaid sim not sure if this will apply to the $200 recharge workaround.

          • @FerBargain: same story, get the new ref number from local telstra store showing this proof and submit to chat agent and done :)

      • I just got the extra 50gig applied. Name, mobile and DoB required. Then just copied and pasted: "200GB (150GB + 50GB bonus)".
Gets allocated to your Data Bank.

        • I got the extra 50gb applied too. The online chat rep that converted my $200 credit to the 12 month prepaid max deal wouldn't apply it but went onto chat again and the second rep applied it as a one off show of goodwill.

          • @carltonfc01: Good on ya. I guess that extra 50gb bonus expires early September, right?

            • @Enjoyer: The extra data was just added to the original 150gb so just have a balance of 200gb with Aug 2020 expiry

    • thanks @2cats, able to get additional 50GB data… Long story short now my 200$ telstra pre-paid (worth value 300$) with 200GB data and 364 days expiry with sim expiry april 2021. was spending 50$ a month to now 16.67$ month. :)

    • Grrrrrrrr when I try activate online porting my number across it says “we’re experiencing technical difficulties progressing to the next step”, I think it has something to do with my details being a telstra customer before porting to Optus.

But that was over 10 days ago

Looks like I need to activate through live chat, meaning that I have no way to prove that I “saw” the bonus 50gb when activating online

      • "Thank you, based on the promo description you may purchased and activate the sim by August 5,2019 the 50gb bonus data and since you have not activated the sim by August 5, your sim is not eligible for the 50gb of bonus data."

        • Total BS.
SIM deal was only for 'purchase' made by 5th of Aug. And Activation before 2nd of Sept is required for the bonus data.
See other comments, some got the bonus data after the 5th.

          • @Enjoyer: I closed the chat and spoke to someone else, they immediately said no worries adding the 50gb data now.
            I have 200gb yay!

It’s been about 18 hours since the port and no VoLTE yet

            • @jakeyo: After reading your comment I noticed the same. Had to call tech support to activate both VoLTE and Wifi Calling on my Note 9 (bought outright form Samsung directly).

              • @smarter_fool: yep, all working now for me..200gb and VoLTE.. happy telstra customer now (except the 0.25Mbps down on 4G at home, but use wifi anyway)

  • +3

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but it has been changed back to $300 on the website now.

    • +1

Still out of stock somehow… How is a plan out of stock??

      • They ship out physical sim kit to you so i guess that is out of stock.

  • In case this resurfaces, what is the typical expiry date of the starter pack?
