Seems like they're offering 40K QFF for signing up to the American Express Altitude Black Card and sending $3k if you have the Westpac AB, can anyone from this offer confirm they're eligible if you press "apply now"? Might be targeted.

    • ~ Bonus points promotion: Offer only available to selected Westpac Altitude and Earth cardholders who apply online for the new American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card between 27th June 2019 to 12th December 2019, or by the dates specified in your invitation, whichever comes first

I mean, this offer was meant to be targeted as well, so who knows ;)

Some people in this thread have received offers for 20k previously.. eg

Westpac customer. Got the card with $0 annual fee confirmed and a week later an offer on the Amex with $20k also for $0 fee. So all in, 100k points for $0 annual fee.

I haven't received an offer yet.

Could try chatting with Westpac and saving it as evidence I guess ;)

  • Statement says points have been issued but it seems to take quite a long time to be sent to velocity. Longer than usual.

  • Going to apply soon:

I think the most conservative approach is:
Sign up for bank account first
Sign up for card after bank account clears?

    • +1

yes, signup to the choice account to get an extra $50 if you do few things that it asks you to.
you can signup for the card once you can login to internet banking on the choice account.

      • Is this only target to 25yr old under??

        • no

  • Has anyone received their qantas invites from purchasing qantas carbon offsets yet?

    • Nothing for me, been 2 months

    • See my story on page 4, a bit of insight.

  • Did anyone get a screenshot from when it was listed as 80,000k points on their website?

    • +2

you should always take a screenshot ! :)
did you miss the deal and trying to get them to honour it..? ;)

      • Will definitely have to do that in the future. I got the deal over a month ago but just noticed the edit says for existing customers only.

Haven't called them yet but assume they will say for existing customers only so was hoping to get some evidence first :)

        • you would have received a letter/email detailing your card details such as credit limit and annual fee

          • @chk: Yeah I've got that but doesn't say anything about the bonus points. Should it mention that??

            • +1

@bobwokeup: don't think so. let me know if u run into any problems.. I didn't get anything in writing about the 80k points but still got it on my 2nd statement.
              I wouldn't worry.

  • For those who opted for velocity points, is there a way to redeem a lounge passes instead of booking flights option ?

Got card month ago, bonus point credited already
Now time to cancel the card, thinking of redeeming other perks but only option seems to be buying a flight via card then can redeem lounge passes l.

Is there a cheaper way around ?

    • +1

I had a flight already booked with them (free flight from an anz card) i payed my carbon offset which equated to $5.30 and it unlocked the lounge passes and economy x.

      • Great tip, I will try carbon offset but have not booked flight under my name but there is one for wife.. I will still try

        • +1

You can use any card to pay for the carbon offset, shouldn’t be an issue

          • @chillybags: I was looking for an option to buy carbon offset ( using virgin au app) no luck so far.
But isnt the condition that you should pay via Westpac master card so get free lounge pass and upgrade voucher for econ.x

Also do you have link by chance for buying carbon offset

            • +1

@Seven8Nine: It was under the manage my booking section. Just chuck your confirmation code and name into the system in the same way you would to select seats and there is an option in there to buy the offset.

              • @chillybags: So I need to have booked flight under my name for that to work? Sorry to many questions

                • +1

@Seven8Nine: Any virgin booking - doesnt matter who booked it or what name it is under. If you have a friend who has booked a virgin flight just ask if you can pay for their carbon offset using your westpac card. It just comes up as a virgin spend on your card and triggers the lounge passes and economy x.

                  • @chillybags: I've paid a friend's carbon offset now. Where do I go see if I have received the economy x and lounge passes?

                    • @starburstyellow: Takes up to 10 days. Then just log into my velocity and scroll down and it should say it down there under benefits

  • For bonus points, the online chat keeps referring back to saying as long as card is approved and activated between october and Feb next year, then I will be eligible.

Which It should mean i am eligible for the 80k points. But I was hoping for a straight upfront answer, YES u will get it when meeting 4k spent.

Does everyone get the same response??

  • Maybe try a different agent? They were able to advise that I had signed up with the specific code to receive the 80k if I met the spend eligibility.

    • What code??

      • Your application would have been populated with the 80k bonus code. I'll have a scan of this thread to see if someone posted it

      • +1

I believe that's the "WABDB" someone mentioned earlier. It was pre-populated through the original application link anyway.

        • just got home and saw this. CHAMP!

  • Success. Took 2 statement periods to spend $4,000 on the card. Most recent statement lists 80,000 bonus points accrued and it landed in my Velocity account this morning. For the record I was not an existing customer of Westpac and didn't both to open a transaction account or w/e before applying for the credit card.

Got my points after 40 days from opening, and also on first statement. What happened was I didnt like the statement cycle, so called up to change it to bit later date. I managed to get minimum spend going over what would have been my first cycle date. as a result i had basically 40 days on my first statement rather than usual 28-30 days. Got points few days after first statement generated.

Might be worth doing for some people so you get the points earlier. If I didnt do anything regarding my statement cycles, i would have only gotten the points after 2 cycles (based on my spending).

    • Whaaaaaaaaaat. I made my spend in the first couple of weeks and still haven't got it after the 2nd statement. Called them and said you'll get it - wait for up to 90 days…

      • Oh no :( . Have you got your daily spend going to your velocity though?

        • Sure do so at least I've got that haha :)

          • @bobwokeup: Ok that's good. My fear with every card application is that I don't get the bonus, so having the monthly spend come in before hand always helps relieve that.

            • +1

@starburstyellow: Same here so when the points didn’t come through on the 2nd statement I started to worry. Especially as this post now says for existing customers only, even though it was posted on their website.

  • Got slapped 250 annual and 50 qantas fee ..

Called up and asked about it. Lady asked if I signed up from other source website which carrys the promo.

Then after 2 min wait., she said it will credit onto my second statement.

Easily done. So fight for it if u got charged.

    • Dodgy hey. Have you got your bonus points? I'm still waiting…

      • No….only spend 3000 in 3 weeks …still working hard on my spend.

        • Oh fair enough. Give they charged the annual fee already I hope you're setup on the correct deal to get the bonus points.

  • I got my points and cancelled the card. Does this mean I can’t use the lounge passes/upgrade?

    • I'm interested to know this too

  • Anyone didn't get this offer in email but apply to this anyway and successful get the signup points?

    • Yes, and cancelled too

    • No email invitation. Applied. Waived annual fee. Online chat with staff did mention that between that period for applications, will get bonus points

Just have to wait and see

      • 2 statements later….still no sign of 80k points. Both statement exceeds 3000 spend too

        Anyone also on same situation?

  • Just found out that all PayPal payments aren’t included in the eligible spend. WTF…never heard of that before, I do everything there so I just have to update the credit card there rather than all my direct debits. Has anyone seen this in their T & Cs?

  • I clicked the application link and it takes you to a westpac login screen for netbanking. Definitely looks like you need to sign in with an existing acc. Looks like i'll need an everyday account…

  • Scanned the comments but didn't see this. Is it possible to get priority pass while still being registered as velocity points? Have no use for the velocity passes…

    • you can sell the velocity passes.

      • They're loaded on your account though. which are non transferrable no?

" The Virgin Australia domestic lounge passes will then be available in your Velocity Frequent Flyer account within 10 business days,"

        • sorry, I've had so many cards lately I must be mixed up :)

        • When I got Qantas lounge passes I'm sure it was loaded onto my account as I was able to sell them. Thought it would be the same for Velocity?

          • @bobwokeup: yes but non transferrable.

            • @freestyle18: Fair enough thanks for that. If anything I would have thought it would be the other way around. So basically unless you have a Virgin flight booked you can't use them?

              • +1

@bobwokeup: Correct. You can use them when you fly virgin domestic (and also use one for a guest as well)

  • Is it possible to keep the 80K velocity points in the Westpac account and move to velocity account when there’s a transfer bonus? How would that be done?

    • U get velocity points in the velocity account itself not Westpac.

Unless you are talking about altitude rewards points

      • Unless you are talking about altitude rewards points

yeah think you can only do it with altitude points.

      • So you could get the altitude points then convert to velocity?

        • if you signup to an card that has altitude points you can then convert them to other airline miles, but they usually are not as good value as this deal.

          • @bohn: Thanks. Conversion is 3 altitude = 1 velocity. Definitely not good value.

  • Successfully applied for one- just need to ensure the annual fee will be waived, will ring up to confirm prior to activation.

    • you shouldn't need to.
      just screenshot the application.
they didn't charge me the $50 rewards fee either.

      • It is still by invite only? Or you follow the link to apply and it will be fine?

  • Looks like only for existing customers? I clicked on 'Apply now' and it took me to a Westpac netbanking log in screen.

    • I applied recently using their normal link but replaced the promo code with the one listed earlier in the thread. Fingers cross the annual fee and promo works…

      • what hap?

        • I got an email saying it was $0 annual fee first year but my first statement hasn't been issued yet so no idea if it worked yet.

          • @griffy: Can you confirm they charge no annual fee?

            • @SnoozeAndLose: Confirmed, got my month's statement and only got charged the $50 Qantas amount, zero annual credit card fee.

      • Where did you put the promo code in? I’ve just tried to apply but there is nowhere for me to change the promo code?

        • On the web address bar once you click into the "Apply now" link for the card. Somewhere on the link it would say "promo=" and I replaced it with the one previously mentioned on this thread.

  • Anyone else having issues with westpac crediting points to their velocity account? Not even the bonus points but just the normal points from monthly spends. I've had the card since october but they've only credited points for one statement and have been calling them to chase up subsequent statement points? They have the correct velocity details since ive been credited one statements worth already..

    • Points were all correct on each statement for me.

    • Gotten the points on both mine and the mrs cards all fine, no issues. But I got my lounge passes and economy x upgrade vouchers but the Mrs is having issues with getting them.

  • -3

Just spent the required limit with ATO payments and rates payments for my family. Also got email $0 annual fee. No wait and see. I haven't even received my card yet. Used the digital card lol

    • Why the negs? Jesus some people are sensitive.

  • Finally got my 80k points on 3rd statement.

    • May I ask if this was the 3rd statement (ie 90 days) after you reached the minimum spend, or 3rd statement since you first got the card? Thanks!

      • Yes. On my 3rd statement.
I reached my spend in first month

        • Was hoping to cancel early, oh well will hold onto card :)

  • Applied yesterday - approved today.

Created a savings account with them to get the offer.

Lets hope they honor the $0 annual fee and the 80k Bonus points!

  • has anyone here been successful in obtaining the offer even though they've had a westpac rewards card within the last 12 months?

also, does having a sub-card previously affect your eligibility?

    • Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

      • does having a sub-card count towards that?

  • About to apply - just wanted to confirm:
    1) Have to be an existing Westpac customer i.e. with an internet banking login to apply?
    2) Westpac does not have referral links for existing customers i.e. cannot use a link from a fellow Ozbargainer to earn them bonus points?

    • Would also like to know.

    • Would also like to know. I tried changing the code in the URL, but it seems like it's already applied, and prompts you to sign in. Perhaps that caught onto the change of the promo code.

  • Is it more worth it to pay the $50 to get either velocity or Qantas points?
Or would it be wise to just sign up with altitude, then wait for velocity to have a bonus transfer option to then transfer all my saved up points?

    • depends on what you think you want to do with the points.
I went for velocity and didn't even get charged the $50.
