      • The promotion is still on, and there's still stock left over.
However, I cannot get the "WELCOMEDA" code to work, is it expired?

I tried on an old account, nothing.
Opened a new email account, still nothing. Tried in the Cart Page, and the Purchase Page, still total comes to $40 instead.
I also had a prompt to get $10 Off first purchase on their website, and it said "Success. Email should be coming soon". I suspect its the same Voucher Code. But nothing has arrived yet in Inbox/Junk.

        Any pointers?
        Cheers in advance!

        • The promo code isn't working anymore for me. Might be worth looking for that email to get your code.

          • @clearance: Yeah, that promo email never came. Looks like the code is sent to the pastures.
Maybe this is still a good shoe for $40, what do you think ?

            • +1

@Kangal: Might be worth visiting a Rivers store to see and try the shoes, then order if you like it for the price.

    • +1

Yes, according to their website categorisation

  • +2

    How is the quality?

    • None existent to low.

      • I received my boots yesterday afternoon through Click & Collect.

I was really happy with the quality of the boots. They are very comfortable even with my wider feet and the quality of the inside padding, the side zipper and the overall feel of the boot comes across as well made in my opinion.

I actually love the fact that these have a zipper as putting them on is so fast and easy, I will be using these for work and believe it or not under my work pants (dress pants) they look like any other tan business shoe which is a win for me as I need to look presentable to clients but also have to climb ladders or walk around sites quite frequently.

Obviously, I cannot tell you if they will last or if the zipper fails or the sole wears out as I only just got them. But for $30 they are a steal from first inspection.

I just purchased a second pair.

add a product worth $1 or more to get $40 min spend and use cose WELCOMEDA to get $10 off. must be logged in to use (free membership).

    • Cheapest thing I can find is $4.95 any tips on what there is for a $1, or better yet 5c?

      • +1

The code is working fine without adding any more value. You have only one redemption per account

        • +1

Yeah code is working for $30 and over. My $29.95 boots should be ready for pickup this afternoon. Cheers OP

      • used to be tote bags for $2.

but yeah $4.95 seems to be the cheapest

    • Thanks, updated the post.

  • Damn, my size has been OzBargained!

    • I am typically a size US 12 so I was looking for AUS 11 but they had run out of stock, grabbed the AUS 10 / US 11 to see if I could get away with it. I can say that they fit my wide foot very well and are not tight and very comfortable.

  • Ordered a pair for 29.95, I'll tell you how quality is when I pick them up.

    • Looking forward to it

      • Decent quality boots. Bargain for $30

Heal is nice and snug and ankle support is good.

The laces are for show only, which is a little disappointing but the zip looks decent quality and they’re quite comfortable.

  • Hey guys. I didn't need to add anything else. Just added the boots and code worked.

  • The tan colour will appear much lighter IRL…

    • Polish it with a medium-brown cream polish and it will darken up quickly enough (and add some interesting antiquing).

  • I got a pair of these for my NZ trip last year. Pretty good boots, very comfy and I'm still using them.

  • I got "Voucher cannot be redeemed: WELCOMEDA"

    • Same here mate

    • +3

Worked it out, code needs to go in at the payment step, not in the cart. :)

      • Thanks for that

  • +3

Doe anyone who already has these know if they are tight-fitting shoes for us wider foot people?

River's state they accept returns for change of heart which is great to know if these end up being too tight and they don't have the next size up in stock.

  • lol who would wear these and what would you wear them with (as an outfit?).

    • +21

I would wear them with jeans, a tan belt, and a t-shirt or untucked dress shirt depending on the situation.

I would also wear them in my bathroom, with white drawers, with the tap running while I clean my rifle.

      • +1

that was my initial vision…reindeer games :D

      • +1

This is kinda hot… If it was a nerf gun, I'd be calling around

    • I’d wear them gardening, bushwalking, camping, etc.

They look mud-proof (although that side zipper isn’t promising for being waterproof), and I won’t cry if they get ruined.

  • Got a pair… thanks OP

  • +3

    Thanks OP, bought some.

Was gonna skip it because I didnt wanna be seen wearing rivers but the review mentioned the handy side zipper and I was sold.

    • Same, the zipper is a huge PLUS for me.

      • +1

Received mine, the zipper is amazing.

    • What’s the problem with being seen wearing Rivers?

  • I really want the Conker colour but they’re minimum $119.95 whereas the exact same boot in light tan comes down to $29.95 much better.

    • +1

Conker are 50% off, so $60.

  • I've got myself a pair, but I'd usually go size 11 rather than 10 and 11 are sold out. Crossing my fingers 10 is not too small!

    • I am in the same boat, I went with Click and Collect as I have a store close to me making the return a lot easier if they do end up being too small and no swap possible.

      • +1

        Mine arrived, they fit fine!

    • Count me in. I hope they have size 11 in store for a sweet swap!

    • +1

I used to stretch (army) boots by wearing in the shower and stuffing with newspaper after.
I don't know if this will help?
Dry really slowly, not in rapid heat.

      • Nice to know there are ways to expand them, I received mine yesterday and can say with my wide foot, the size 10 still fits really well and it is a very comfortable shoe.

I am actually thinking about purchasing a second pair because for $30 AUD these boots are a steal, also tan is really fashionable at the moment.

  • +1

Shopback 4% off CR 3.5% off

  • Much appreciated!

  • so cheap!

  • +1

egh tried to resist the temptation to buy this morning but keep on checking back this page and ended up purchasing one :/

  • Anyone getting an error?

"An error occurred contacting the payment provider."

    • Got another error with something "rejected" in the page URL on the first try.
Payment and order went through the second try. Paid with Paypal

      • I managed to get past the first error but after clicking Pay Securely Now I get:

"We're sorry, your transaction is unable to be completed at this time. Please try again later or contact our Customer Care Team if the issue continues."

Seems like no cheap boots for me!

        • Close then reopen browser and try again? Also worth trying a different payment method if you can

  • Thanks OP. Bought one

  • Sweet, bought one using PayPal. Didn't work initially with a CC

  • I just wish they have a store nearby, have to spend $80 each time for free delivery is a pain

    • Fffuuu, now just realised I was 10c off free delivery!

Only $8 I suppose. Awesome clearance sale by rivers. By the looks of things they didn't sell much stock this season.

  • +2

Bought a pair, had a look at Highpoint and they had a few size 10 to 13 but nothing smaller (I needed 8). ordered an 8 for pickup from Maribyrnong. The ones they had there were definitely a lighter shade of tan than the photo but they felt pretty decent in the hand.

  • is the sizing in US or AUS?

    • +2

The size is AUS, I picked mine already and it’s really good for the money I paid light weight solid sole and cushioned

    • Aren't AUS and US sizes the same?

      • Usually UK & AU are the same, US is +1. So US 11 = UK/AU 10.

  • -2

Not sure if I could Neg this or not ! But sharing my first experience with Rivers here . I’ve bought a pair of Chelsea boots from Rivera few days back when they were on promo. I’ve got a email today which saying that sorry when we wanted to pick your order we realised it’s out of stock.

The funniest part was the explanation : since we are dealing with thousands of products things like this are unavoidable.

That’s it , refunded and I’ve just given Rivers 2 weeks interest free loan.

Will never buy again from this retailer !

    • +1

I don't think their holding your $30 for a couple of weeks is going to be noticeable on their balance sheet. People get pretty indignant about things like this and it's rather unbecoming.

I have a pair of the Chelsea boots you are talking about and they are great. You are the only one missing out by snubbing Rivers in the future.

      • +1

I don't think it's about their balance sheet as a company the original guy was even on about, its about you the consumer not getting the deal that you already paid for and expect to receive within a few business days. Them not honoring it will always be a kick in the gut to most people.

That being said most ozbargain'd deals end up like that so bkbk probs was a virgin in that respect.

In any case his comment doesn't deserve to be neg'd and it's understandable. Companies that don't honor their sales either for out of stock sales items will always get a strike in my book regardless. It's good feedback for anyone else considering putting down money.

        • For the record, I didn't neg him. Stocking errors like that will happen. I've bought so many things from Rivers over the years and never had an issue. I am sure many OzBargainers are the same.

As for it being a "kick in the gut", lets keep these deals in some perspective yeah? It's a cheap pair of boots, not life saving surgery.

          • @xyron: Psh

It's like dealing with a grammar nazi on youtube.

Fineee, nick in the finger, slap on the tootsie, poke in the gut. Happy?

In a warehouse run by minimum wage employees, with little care for the job and high rates of theft, their stock counts are never going to be accurate.

If you want bottom of the barrel cheap prices you can't expect 100% service

      • -1

Good for you mate , I think business owners should either have proper systems in place to avoid errors , or at least try to take care of the customers after things happen. The worst thing to do is giving BS reasons to your customers.

I don’t mind spending more , but being treated as a customer properly.

        • You should try running a business lol.

          • @Scythic: As a matter of fact , I’m in charge of customer service of a company with thousands of SKUs (surely more than Rivers ). Maybe that’s why !

        • Companies are within their rights to reject an order if they haven't accepted payment. The "we're processing your order" email usually comes with the T&C. They're not sitting on your cash, it takes time to reverse transactions with 3rd party payment companies.

We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we're buying stuff below RRP. Degraded customer service is almost an unwritten trade off with the spike in orders they receive. And stocks run out quickly because of this group.

If you're buying at RRP I'm pretty sure you'll get your pair with the guarantees you're looking for.

          • -1

@clearance: I’m sorry but you’re wrong . No matter how much you pay for a good , you are a customer and have rights. I don’t care if the money has landed In their account or not, but it was taken off my account and obviously has cost for me.

My point In this conversation is not “why they had a stock error” what I’m saying is using your business challenges to justify a simple error for a customer is a big mistake.

Another example is when you go to a restaurant and your food is 1 hour late. What do you say if the waiter tells you “sorry but we are busy and our food is under RRP!”

Just say sorry we made a mistake, no BS. If you want to keep your customer happy , throw in a gift card, if not , just say we made a mistake.

Anyways , this was my experience and might be nonsense to others.

            • +3

              @Bkbk:

              I’m sorry but you’re wrong.

Just to help you out on some misconceptions:

you are a customer and have rights.

Online retailers also have rights and usually operate within them. Both sides need to agree hence the "transaction" and the "terms and conditions" on how it is conducted.

I don’t care if the money has landed In their account or not, but it was taken off my account and obviously has cost for me.

They didn't take money off your account. Transaction needs to be approved by the seller, not just you. They are usually found under unapproved or pending transactions for your payment account.

My point In this conversation is not “why they had a stock error” what I’m saying is using your business challenges to justify a simple error for a customer is a big mistake.

You're using an IT system that's taking hundreds of orders at the same time during a rush sale. Reading this can give some insights. Hence the T&C email they send out before confirming your order.

Another example is when you go to a restaurant and your food is 1 hour late. What do you say if the waiter tells you “sorry but we are busy and our food is under RRP!”

Not equal comparison. A restaurant can easily control their queue by not taking orders and letting people wait outside their restaurant. They also know their sitting capacity, hence you get freebies when your order is late. Your use of RRP in this example is incorrect.

Just say sorry we made a mistake, no BS. If you want to keep your customer happy , throw in a gift card, if not , just say we made a mistake.

They're already putting products on sale, and you still want a gift card for missing out? Again, it's not a mistake until they confirm your order back. If you're paying RRP and get into some inconvenience then you'll get the guarantees for sure.

Anyways , this was my experience and might be nonsense to others.

You have to look at your experience and compare it with everyone else in the same context. There are many price errors and people missing out on short stocks. If everyone is getting a freebie out of these, probably fewer retailers will put stuff on sale. It also helps to know there are normal people working on the other side who struggle with high volume of orders in a short period, not some anonymous company trying to steal your cash.

    • Bought the Chelsea boots from the last sale and received them within a couple of days. No problems at all. Bought this deal also because of the positive shopping experience and good price.

      • That’s exactly why I didn’t Neg the deal and only shared my personal experience.

  • Tempting. Anyone know if these run small or large or fairly true to size?

  • Thanks … Ordered one with a store pickup. Found one weird issue while ordering on their website though. If you want to change the billing address, to be something other than delivery address(did not want my bill to have the store address), then it fails. Only works when both the address are the same.

  • no longer works

    • It works… make sure you use all UPPERCASE and enter it at the payment page

  • +2

Thanks OP. I have really wide feet so I ordered one size up 8. I walk in and see one size 7 on the table. Width was good, but still felt a bit big (length wise especially), I go back to get the size 7 and someone had just picked it up (he looked like an Ozbargainer lol) so I ended up taking the size 8. The zipper is great.

    • +1

Thanks mate. Appreciate the sizing feedback. Have ordered a size up to hopefully accommodate my 4E duck feet.

    • +1

(he looked like an Ozbargainer lol)
He was wearing 4 pairs of sunnies with multiple headsets, and Eneloops in his pockets ?
I'd not realised we had a dress code..

      • Hahah, the stares I was getting from him were giving off Ozbargainer vibes..

        • +1

I'm guessing it's that knowing look 2 guys give each other inside a Rivers store on a weekday.

          • +1

@clearance: LOL, under normal circumstances I never do shopping on the weekday at a clothes retailer, but I am here for those boots, and I will fight you for the last pair of size 7's.

  • Thank you!

  • +1

Anyone own these boots and have any observations on how it fares when it's raining? With respect to the zipper, but also wondering whether it holds up OK without waterproofing sprays.

    • +1

I scuba dived without any issues

      • You scuba dived wearing these boots? Is that normal scuba diving behavior?

        • +1

          Normal is overrated

    • -2

my dog peed on them and they're smelling good

  • Not trolling but … why on earth will anyone (anyone not in active military service) will buy military style boots????

Why not buying high quality civilian trekking boots or work boots (steel toe) or something for civilian life/activities??

    • I think Rivers just took inspiration from combat boots for their design. They are not selling actual military boots. Their website has this description:

Built tough, our Military Style boots are ideal for weekend adventures.
      KEY FEATURES
      Padded Collar and Tongue
      Textured Sole for Grip
LEATHER UPPER/ LEATHER AND SYNTHETIC LINING/ SYNTHETIC SOLE
      Reinforced Laces
      Style # 110589

    • I mean why not? Going to work feels like going to war to me :P

AND I bought this only because it has side zipper

      • The zipper is very iffy, you are better off with a nicer pair of tradies boots.

  • Goodyear welt, I trust? For environmental reasons (minimising shoes sent to landfill), it should be illegal to sell shoes without at least blake-stitching.
