Western Digital My Cloud Home 2TB $144.53 Delivered @ SaveOnIT eBay

60
PICKLE

Personal backup and cloud drive, integrated 2TB drive.
By far the cheapest I've seen so far.
Supports Mac Time Machine format too.

If we look at the WD My Cloud Home as a NAS device, then it feels like a frustrating product that has been dumbed down too far and utterly fails to live up to its potential. However, it isn't meant to be seen or used as a NAS device. > It's a simplified storage solution for non-technical users that leverages home routers - not even home networks. It serves as a central location where media and backups from multiple PCs and other devices can be stored and retrieved. We can't fault WD's motivations for choosing this path. Even we can see that configuring SAMBA shares plus figuring out device and OS admin permissions isn't everyone's cup of tea, and we readily agree that the My Cloud Home is better suited to casual users - especially those who are used to how Dropbox and similar online services work.

Added to the description to asked mod to swap eBay link to title and umart to the description.
I still personally strongly prefer umart to SaveOnIt for warranty and other purposes (they have an actual store), but I'll leave it up to everyone's preferences.

          • @ocoolio: You are correct with peace of mind paying an extra $10 for a physical store with phone number is good for warranty purposes and ease of communication. These are all very valid points.

Unsure if you get a tax invoice with this mob either. I would personally go with the more reputable store as per your original post after reflection

I will still +1 the deal it is a good deal OP

To be able to map the drive in Windows, you MUST run WD software. There is no other way - be aware.

    • Yeah read this isn’t really a full blown NAS. I’d avoid.

Edit: Derp. OP stated as much in the OP.

      • The 4tb 2-bay one can often be had for about $220 with coupon. That's better value I reckon.
