My New Budget Phone Realme X

Hi guys I bought it during my trip to China.
Price is fair, about 400 Australia dollars.
realme is a budget phone brand and they have done very well in India so far.
I took some photos when doing unboxing, happy to share with you.

Pros: price, design, functions
Cons: No NFC, No google apps

Question: I downloaded and installed the google software, but it is not that stable, sometimes I must reboot the phone to get the Play store working properly. Does anyone have a perfect solution?

If you wanted a Mobile that didn't run google apps, you could
have stayed in Australia and bought a Huawei.

lol…but actually Huawei promised at least the P30 series will get update in the future.

  • There's a few awesome china phones out there, but I always check XDA to see if there is root access and custom roms for the phone, to avoid all the bloatware and get an OS as vanilla as possible.

I started from scratch with my axon 7 on rooting and custom ROMs, and spent probably 4 hours the first time to unlock the bootloader, install twrp and a custom rom. If you can spend the time, you can learn a lot about what your phone can do and have the advantage of a custom rom. Make your own notes as you go, so its easier to update in the future.

    • thanks, will have a look

Great if you want to spend hours of your time getting a phone to do what you want it to do.

      4 hours = $120

      • Overpaid.

Find a better way to get rid of the bloat from the chinese phones, install gcam, viper4arise, magisk and have a smoother more customisable android than the phone maker's stock ROM.

It's a double edged sword, custom ROMs can be great if they're made by proper developers and everything works (camera, battery drain, speaker distortion), phone calls). For every properly developed ROM there's 10 with wonky design elements and questionable "mods"

      • Very true. Reading the entire forum can take a while, to determine which bugs and issues have come and gone. Theres not one ROM that can do everything flawlessly. I do recommend this route for the chinese phones, and alternatively, those new samsung A60 and google pixel 3a phones are cheap enough and will come without the mysterious apps you'll never understand.

  • I need to buy a screen protector…. too hard to find it.

  • Going by some specs.

No band 28, nfc and google play. Is it worth 400 dollars, I'm not sure.
