100k-150k Qantas FF Points @ Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card, $5K Spend in 90 Days; $49 First Year Fee

3883

Looks like Citi are offering a decent deal on their Signature QFF VISA card again.

This deal offers:

100,000 QFF points with a $5,000 minimum spend in the first 90 days. Reduced annual fee of $49 in the first year; and

50,000 QFF points upon paying the $444 annual fee for the second year (annual fees, particularly of that magnitude, are not to my tastes but each to their own).

Card also provides travel insurance, and two lounge passes p.a. via Priority Pass.

Again, that $444 annual fee in the second year is a whopper. But happily there is no obligation to stick around for the second year, so deliberate thoroughly on how badly you want those additional 50,000 QFF points.

I posit that this deal is superior to the previously posted deal on account of the reduced annual fee in the first year. But perhaps comparable to this earlier deal.

Earn Rates

1.00 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Airlines, Hotels and Restaurants)
0.75 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Supermarkets, Petrol Stations, retailers)
0.50 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (All Other)
1.00 Qantas Point per $ International Spend

With the economy slowing down and abounding speculation of an imminent recession, there's never been a better time to accumulate personal debt. Onwards!

Those who do not have a Qantas Frequent Flyer account can get free membership from one of the free membership deals here.

NOTE: The random referral system is for a different card - Citi Rewards Platinum. Please don't use the referral link if you're applying for the card in this deal, which is the Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card.

Does anyone know if you stand a better chance of getting approved if you Balance Transfer from another credit card of similar standing ?
I have the ANZ Black FF card, which I would like to close and apply for this Citi one.

  • I just got my card today but no where on the the physical card does it say qantas. All it says is Citi Premier VISA Signature. Can anyone confirm if their card looks similar?

    Have not activated it yet.

    • Same… Your good

      • All good, my card is the same. Called them and confirmed it's with Qantas. It's confusing as the email and letters have no metion of Qantas.

However if you check the Rewards Tab in the online Citibank account, you can see a page to enter your QFF number.

        • Yeh - but you can also enter a virgin number there too I think.

I was declined in late May this year - am I still eligible for the points if I apply again and maybe get approved?

  • +1

Citibank won't let me apply because my individual income is below the requirement - they won't take in to account my wife and my joint income. This is the first time I've had this happen. Every other bank has approved us based on combined income. Weird.

  • Did everyone received thepoints their qff account ? On my 1st statement it lists the points earned including bonus points. Bit it has been a week and no show in qff account.

  • Would I still be eligible for this offer as I recenty got the kogan credit card which is run through citibank I beleive?

    • Eligible for the bonus, yes. Eligible for credit through Citibank - harder to say.

      • Hopefully so, i have applied so i will see shortly if it goes through or not.

        • I have this card but was rejected with Coles MasterCard which is owned by Citibank. Good luck.

  • Just applied for the card but the site refuses to upload my documents

  • I spent about $1300 on a tour/flights, charged in AUD, and got hit with $45 international transaction fees. This is going to make it a little harder to reach the spend requirement, but no way am I paying another $45 fee for my tour final payment.

  • I applied on Oct 23 and was approved last Thursday 31 Oct. Hopefully there aren't any issues when it comes to recognising the QFF points.

  • I’ve had a coles MasterCard for a few years.

Will that exclude me from applying for this card?

  • I applied over the phone on 30th OCT, took about 30 minutes for the process, and was approved on 31st OCT. Seems to be easier and faster approval process over the phone.

Now to find $5000 to spend, so just to confirm council rates won't earn Qantas points, but they count towards the $5000 for the bonus points threshold?

  • Update:
Applied Tuesday arvo, approved Wednesday midday.
    Waiting for cards to arrive.

How long do they usually take? Have a few things I want to buy this week and not sure if I should wait for the new card.

    • +1

took my card 3 business days to get to my address.

  • Does anyone know if Citi allows us to add the card to Apple Pay without receiving the actual physical card yet?

Has anyone tried? You can unmask the full card number on the Citi bank website.

    • +1

No can do. I wanted to use it asap after approval too, but Citibank isn't like the Neobanks (86400 or UP). Had to wait for physical card to arrive.

    • How? All i can see is the last 4 digit.

      • There’s a side button on the Citibank web portal called “unmask account number”.

Then you unlock it with an SMS code or app generated password.

        • Thanks heaps. Found it. Swear i looked at that spot for ages.

        • So did adding it to apple pay work?

          • @thestig: You can’t add to Apple Pay until you get the physical card.

            • @zzzman: I got the physical card and tried adding to Google Pay and it says the bank doesn't support it for instore purchases. Anyone else had luck with this?

  • Made three separate calls asking if ATO payments count towards the spend criteria for the bonus points. All staff I spoke to said YES. Even got a call back from another staff saying YES as well.

While govt spends don't accrue Qantas points, govt-related spends count toward the bonus 100k criteria. The T/Cs at the end of product page also says what's excluded for this criteria (bolded below), as opposed to the T/C booklet which only talks about points accrual:

    1. To be eligible to receive up to 150,000 bonus Qantas Points, you must apply for a Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card by 31 January 2020. You will receive 100,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend a minimum of $5,000 on your Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card within 90 days from approval. Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold. The 100,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account within 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. An additional 50,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account within 12 weeks of the first anniversary of the date Citi approved your account. Your Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card must remain open, in good standing and enrolled in Citibank Qantas Rewards for the bonus Qantas Points to be awarded. All rewards are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Citibank Rewards Program. Offer may be extended. Qantas Points are defined in the Citibank Rewards and Citibank Qantas Rewards Program Terms and Conditions as Qantas Frequent Flyer Points. Qantas Points are earned in accordance with the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program Terms and Conditions. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program and have advised us of your Qantas Frequent Flyer Program membership number before you can participate in Citibank Qantas Rewards. You will only earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points after you advise us of your Qantas Frequent Flyer Program membership number. An additional annual fee of $49 will apply to join the Citibank Qantas Rewards program. Membership and the earning and redemption of Qantas Points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program Terms and Conditions, available at qantas.com/terms. Your Rewards Balance will be automatically redeemed for Qantas Frequent Flyer Points at the end of each Statement Period. It may take 28 business days for the Qantas Frequent Flyer Points to appear in your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account. Please note that if you have a Balance Transfer, you will be charged interest on any spend that you make. This offer is valid until 31 January 2020. Post this advertised date; Citi reserves the right to continue, withdraw or change the offer at any time without notice.

    • Sweet. I was worried that my car rego might not count.

  • +1

The deal is great. However, be warned. It's a horror show going through the customer service support, poor processes and lack of transparency. Just went through it w them. Had to register a complaint.

  • Yo Issac have you got your 1 million points yet?

  • does anyone know how long they take after meeting 5k spend? i have hit it month 2 and i got about 10 days til next statement

    • They’re meant to be quick based on what people have said. Maybe ring them up and ask if they have your Qantas number in there.

  • Can anyone who has this card and has successfully received QFF points advise what your QFF name is on the Citibank portal under Rewards>Modify Details?

They’ve got a random string of my name of “LAST NAME,FIRST NAME,DR” for mine and that doesn’t match my QFF account name.

I’m afraid that that might cause issues with getting my QFF credited at the end of the month.

    • Not sure if you've sorted yours out by now, but if it's any consolation, 4 months on they are still telling me that my name doesn't match QFF. It was in the same format as you said above, I tried deleting the title part of the name and still hasn't solved it.

      • I just got a call from Citibank advising the same issue.

They've tried 5x times to transfer me the points but are unable so.

So frustrating, with all other banks i just give them my QFF number and it's done.

The rep said they will try and remove the space.

        • Just to follow up on this.

I received my bonus points in the following statement period.

          SURNAME,FIRST NAME,TITLE worked me for

  • Does anyone know when the $49 Qantas fee is charged? Is it at the end of the first statement? I've had my card for a week and haven't been charged yet, but everything looks fine in my profile (Qantas number, name etc).

    • Does you QFF name on the Citibank portal match exactly your QFF account?

Ie First Name Middle Name Last Name

      • +1

No it's last name first name salutation I think

    • It happened about 11 days after I called to register my QFF details (and activate card) so before end of first statement

      • +1

Oh OK that's random. I'll keep an eye out for it then. I called when I got the card but they said my QFF details were all fine. Thanks for the response!

    • meowmeowmeow (or anyone else) have you been charged the $49 Qantas fee yet? I've had the card opened for 2 months now, got the minimum spend done, got the points, and I just want to close the account, but waiting for the $49 fee to be charged. Don't want to close the account and then be hit with a fee charge later on! Messages to Citibank have not been replied.

      • +1

Just cancel it, you'll be fine ;)
        Happened to me at Westpac.

  • My application just got approved but it did not had my Qantas Membership linked (as complained by a few others too). Don't forget to link it guys.

  • How long does it typically take for a response from Citi after the online application? It's been 2 work days but still nothing and application remains in Submitted status.

    • Give them a call. Same thing for me and i called and they said I didn't submit a payslip and I said ahhh yes I did. Oh yes I see you did. Approved. Lol.

  • Applied October 10th, approved on October 11th.

Needed to pay Uni fee's so got the $5k min spend done in one hit.

Got my statement November 12th and 100k bonus points in my QFF account same day.

Now assume I can cancel the card, and in what took just over 30 days has to be the fastest i've accrued 100k points.

  • Has anyone hit 5000 spend and not qualified for points? Were there any key exclusions you identified? I am about to hit 5k spend but it includes paying back govt, direct debits, bpay, post bill pay etc.

    • I think citibank is fairly relaxed, I hit $6k of which $2k was council rates and another $1k government services and got the bonus points on the first statement. But only got about 1.3k non bonus points though.

      • ThanksX got the points on my credit statement.

        • just want to clarify, did you manage to get the bonus points despite BPAY making up some of your $5000? My partner stupidly used bpay for 4k of bills and now only have 1 month left! thanks!

  • +1

I received QFF point 100k today after spending over $5k in two months.

    • Does you QFF name on the Citibank portal match exactly your QFF account?

Ie First Name Middle Name Last Name

      Or LAST NAME,FIRST NAME, MR

    • Nice! Eagerly awaiting my first statement!! I already spent $5K.

  • So I'm sure I added the quantas membership

So I just spend 5k on this card and get the points? There's no email about it or anything… Plus this snail mail taking ages

Missed out of paying for a big family dinner argh

    • Lucky ozbargainer!!

  • Rejected - earn over the limit, no debts, no mortgage

Went here and it doesn't say Qantas (it says Signature Rewards card) - can someone send the correct link please? Thanks.

  • Got my second statement and my 100k bonus srraight into my QFF account. This included payments to ATO. On the statement I actually had another 763 in bonus points. How are these earnt? I couldnt find anything on their website. Just says 1/0.75/0.5 pt per $1 spent.

    • Do you remember when you got charged the $49 qantas rewards fee?

Did you spend any money with Qantas or in a foreign currency? Sometimes these have bonus points but agree there's nothing listed on the citi website!

      • +1

The $49 waas in the first statement where I got 292 normal points and 531 bonus points! No direct Qantas spend. Overall it meant I got around 0.65 points per $1 spent. Probably still revert back to my AMEX Discovery Card where posssible because it's 0.75pt/$1, now that I've reached the spend requirement.

        • +1

Awesome thanks, i'm halfway through my first month and havent been charged the $49, maybe it will come through at the end of the statement. I've already spent $5k so hoping to get the points in my first statement.

I am also doing the Qantas premier $1500/month for 20k pts for 6 months (120K points total). It's 1 point per dollar which is not bad for a mastercard!!

          • @meowmeowmeow: Thanks, might look into that Premier card soon. I closed it in Jan 2019 so its almost a year now.

For that $49 charge someone asked above about when it should appear. I replied it happened roughly 11 days after I called up to link my Qantas account (that didnt happen during the sign up process for some reason). It therefore was well before my first statement issue date. You might want to double check you are properly setup by calling them or checking online on the rewards tab. It should have your QFF details there if so.

            • @thriftee: Oh sorry didnt realise you were the same person!

Yes i have called up and checked the rewards tab and been told it's all good. Will keep checking my account for the fee, hopefully will come through soon, otherwise I will call up again to ask.

              • +1

                @meowmeowmeow: Me neither! (face palm)

                • @thriftee: Well my first statement came and went and no $49 fee, but I got my 100k points. Repaying the card tomorrow and cancelling. If they send me a bill for the fee of course I will pay it, but really I think it's meant to be in the first month?

                  • @meowmeowmeow: Just got my first statement, had a $49 fee.

                    • @bohn: Hmmm yeh seems everyone got charged in the first month. I have already cancelled the card and never paid the fee. Will wait and see whether they notice hahah

                      • @meowmeowmeow: u got lucky. I doubt they will ask you for it.

  • I just spoke to a customer service rep who advised me that any spending to any government department does not count towards the $5k spend and also does not earn points. I read here that it does still count towards the $5k spend. Can anyone confirm whether it has counted for them? Rego, water bills, etc

  • Anyone used their guaranteed pricing scheme? Was it hard to claim? What proof you had to give them? Thanks.

    • i have used it many times - easy to claim just beware of the strict rules around it. it usually take a couple of weeks to get processed aswell

  • Does anyone know if I can use the priority pass code citibank sent me for my supplementary card holder to register the pp membership and the 2 free entry?thanks

    • No I think when I registered the PP was locked into my name.

    • It may let you use the code, but it'll reject the application soon enough.

  • Anyone got a referral link from Citibank for the Platinum Rewards card even though they’ve applied for the Qantas signature card?

  • Just received the card and realised it doesn't work with Google pay contactless :( wondering if they will extend the support in the near future.

    • I got approved last week but yet to receive the card. How long did it take you to get the card?

      • One week from approval SMS. Snail mail

  • +1

Avoid these clowns. Submitted my application over 10 days ago and provided all required information as soon as it was required. Heard nothing back until calling today and was advised that my application was rejected several days ago which they did not bother notifying my about. I cannot see why it was rejected as I well and truly exceed all their requirements for income etc. I also have had another Credit card with Citibank for about 6 years where i have never been late paying and which they keep sending me credit limit increase offers about all the time.
Never been declined before. Stupid waste of time

    • +1

I'll balance that with a positive. Submitted payslip with the application and approved the next day. Card arrived about 5 days later. Easy.

      • Approved instantly for me

    • I submitted my application on Friday 22nd Nov and didn't get approved until 2 days ago. I've applied for many cards the last few years and this one has taken the longest. Their communication has been terrible. I'll take their 100k points and promptly close the account.

      • +1

Like you were not going to close the account even if they provided the best service possible

  • Applied when this promo started and the link took me to the Citi Rewards Card, while the account was near approval I called to confirm that I did apply for the Qantas Credit Card and was told I did. After receiving the card I was advised that I have the wrong card and they have not addressed the fact their link is wrong. Such a joke and waste of a credit check.

Let me know if anyone had any luck if they did receive the wrong card!

  • Applied yesterday morning and approved early this afternoon. Pretty impressed with that timeframe.

    • Yeah I just got a call less than 2 months from signing up and got told my points will be transferred on the 2 Jan. So 2 months in and I'll get my points. Noiiice.

  • Can someone send me a referral link for this VISA Signature card? I'm planning to apply today…let's make it a win-win deal :D

    • I think there is no referral for Signature, only platinum

      • Oh I see, thanks mate

  • My wife and I applied and both got rejected. Def both over the min sal req. They didn't state why. Good luck guys!

  • Does anyone knows, if I cancel the credit card, can I still use the corresponding priority pass?

  • can you have an existing citibank credit card and get this deal? i couldn't find terms and conditions for it

    • You'll more than likely be rejected.

      • I've the Signature (since the free for life deal) and applied for this card from one of the previous deals back in May. Got approved within a week.

        • Interesting. Have you since applied for this offer again?

  • Hey OzB,

I've successfully got approval for my third Signature card yesterday - 2nd time less than 3 months. Sorry lied to you @nighelves in my previous reply. I was holding my breath waiting for Citibank approval :)

The thing that shocked me this time was the time for them to approve me. Less than 6hrs - applied at 9:30 in morning and got approval email around 3pm same day yesterday.

Either I was lucky or Citibank approval team wanting to clear out all outstanding applications quickly before go on their holidays.

This is my third Signature card with Citibank and 2nd time with this Qantas offer this year.

My 1st Signature card was from this deal back in 2014.

My 2nd one was from this deal back in May. Just cancelled that last Sep (tried hold on to it until used up the 2 Priority Passes at airport).

Third one is on the way. Hope I will get it before Boxing Day Sale.

I've noted that a number with high income to qualify and no debt but got rejected for no reason.
In case anyone curious, here is my profile (from citibank point)

    • Qualify with income requirement
    • Own home - live at same address for 10+ years
    • No debt and no missing repayment with Credit cards - they know my credit card history
    • FT employment - same employer for 10+ years
    • No dependent
    • My spending amount is only 1/5th my take-home amount
    • Good history relationship with Citibank.

I'm may be just lucky or may be it last point that may get extra brownie points for Citibank to approve me swiftly?

I'm guess I also beat the Chinese whispers about how Citibank don't like people apply for CC within short period.
