Optus Prepaid MyTab Back by Popular Demand - $99!!!!

2110

Just received an SMS from Optus saying mytabs can be ordered online.

Offer is valid till 15th of July

http://www.optus.com.au/mytaborders

http://www.optus.com.au/store/phone/mytab_prepaid_orders?sid…

Mod: Just got an email from Optus' Social Media Team, basically

  • It is no longer in stock, and they do not offer it as a prepaid device anymore.
  • It is only available as a post-paid product. See this Optus tablet plans.
  • Please remove this deal as soon as possible.

Well I won't remove this post, but it's now marked as expired. Moreover, DO NOT call Optus to ask about this prepaid product (apparently their call centre is overloaded by OzBargainers).

Mod (9/7): Appears to be back in stock. Reopened until further advice.
Mod (11/7): Out of stock again.

  • this is ridiculous, wont accept my credit card, so angry

  • Wont accept my credit card either.. WTF Optus?

  • Not accepting my credit card either. Optus fail :'(

This tab can be freely unlocked:
    http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus

  • Got one just now, used google chrome.

    • Using a different browser doesn't seem to make a difference. Optus seem to be rejecting certain credit cards for reasons unknown.

  • -2

im furious, absolutely horrified, ive been chasing one for months, VERY ANGRY!

  • Got it! Thanks

  • Here are the specs: http://www.optusbusiness.com.au/page/optus_my_tab

    Reckons 30 to 40 left!

  • Can someone who has one name a few popular android games that runs acceptably on this? Considering buying one just to keep my little bro away from my iPad!

    • Ones that don't use multitouch (Angry Birds) and those that use accelerometer (certain driving games). Anything that needs 2 or more fingers on the screen are virtually unplayable.

    • I've got Jewels Deluxe, Angry Birds, Brain Genius Deluxe, Alchemy, Red Stone- most of them for the kids. Plus, some great apps.

  • Estimated Delivery Date: 12/07/2011
    Used chrome. Worked first time.
Thanks OP :-) Good luck to everyone else.

  • good price, i would get this if i did'nt have my htc desire HD.

  • Finally accepted my credit card after trying 3 times, used firefox (was using rockmelt before), not sure if that helps otherwise keep trying :)

  • does anyone know telstra t touch and optus mylab, which is better?

    • I had owned both. Then I sold t-touch on ebay. Probably the only advantage of t-touch is the ability to play flash.

  • PLEASE READ IT AND YOU WILL SEE .http://www.cnet.com.au/telstra-t-touch-tab-339306869.htm AND http://www.cnet.com.au/optus-my-tab-339307123.htm.

  • tried firefox, ie, chrome using my card failed 6 times, used a mates card on chrome, worked first time! bloody stressful tho! wanted one bad but finally have it!

Got this tab. Unlocked it. Rooted it. Then put CyanogenMod Android 2.3 + optimised kernel.

Using it mostly as a bedside ereader and web browsing. Best $99 gadget ever!

    • Hey do you know which ereader allows to read free books?

      • +1

Moon+ Reader - support many formats

        • -2

Thanks and where do I get the free ebooks?

  • +3

Got an email from Optus' Social Media Team. Added that to the main text of this deal. Basically — no stock and this is not available as $99 Prepaid anymore.

    • +3

      the power of ozbargain.

    • So are the ones ordered earlier this evening going to be sent?

    • still "buy now" on that page…doesn't show "no stock"

      • Yep, I tried till the Confirmation page, so it may be still able to order.

        • I just ordered and got a confirmation email…. we'll see how it goes.

        • I got through to the confirmation. We'll see what happens.

  • anyone know if they are going to release an updated version of the ZTE V9, i.e. the ZTE V9+? - http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_v9+-3902.php

  • I was able to order just a minute ago, recd confirmation everything, Not sure that it is expired then.

  • So… If it was @ this price in the past from several retailers, why is this a bargain?
    Neg me, but no deal…
    I'm bored:)

    • +7

it was a bargain at this price in the past. it is still a bargain at this price.

      • It seems that $99 is the retail price on this item ( when avail ). Other retailers have had the same price.

        • +1

The retail is much higher, but Optus (presumably) decided to drastically reduce the price to clear out stock (perhaps to make way for a new android tablet?). The other retailers had no choice but to match.

  • I just put my order through and no prob at all, received the confirmation email etc…

  • my order just went through.. no email tho…

    • ok got order confirmation email
      cheers

  • -7

    .

  • I think this deal is meant for people who preregistered and received sms notification from Optus. I guess we'll find out on monday.

  • I remember reading on whirlpool, a few weeks back that they had their order refunded.(those who ordered through optus(same as this one) just before the site was taken down. Hope its not repeat of what happened then. That will be revenge of the ozbargainers for sure :)

  • -3

I just ordered 4 without any fuss

    • -2

bs I doubt you ordered 4 at all.

      Anyways…

None the less this is a pretty good deal. :)

      • I have no reason to BS, I ordered 4 and it gave me a confirmation number in the secure checkout. I have just noticed however that my credit card is not in purchase authorisation for the amount. Can anybody else confirm whether their card has been charged?

        • +1

I had a phone call from the order centre before my order was finalised, I ordered three earlier today. They asked me additional questions then ran a 'security' check - apparently I passed.
Perhaps your order is pending that step once the centre is open again.

  • I've got one just now. it works on Chrome. Optus rejects my first credit card, but accept second one. not sure why?

  • +2

Card rejection is easy to overcome, just delete cookies and try again, Optus Live assistant told me the tip and my card worked after that.

  • really hope my order goes thru, cant check if card charged cos mates card but good news so far, no bad news email from optus, so far so good!

  • -1

    don't need to delete cookies…
just choose another card.. it'll accept it,
then go back and edit payment to change back to the correct card type

    x1 ordered

  • +1

appears to be back in stock

  • Hey, does this thing work without SIM card? ie. just for home internet browsing (WIFI)

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

      it certainly does

  • +1

Optus payment system rejected all my VISA cards (credit card and VISA debit card) regardless how many times I have tried and what kind of browser I used.

Eventually got through by using my MASTER card.

The confirmation email has been received and seems the money has been deducted from my CC. Let's wait and see how it goes……

    • great news liveinsydney, i remain hopeful :-)

  • I just ordered one!!! No confirmation letter yet though! fingers crossed :)

  • +1

How good is this as a GPS device?

    • Absolutely fantastic….I think it is as good as any tomtom I have owned before. The Gingerbread Mod I have running on mine comes with a car mode that is fantastic, I haven't cracked the code with regards to getting voice guidance to work…..it doesn't seem to understand my mixed up accent!
I am impressed by how little data is used in the process of navigating….it is all good!!
The only issue I have is that I have yet to find a good car cradle….apparently some of the ones in from China do not tend to hold the weight of the mytab that well.

      • Sounds good. How much data would it use on a trip that's roughly 1 hour?

        • It can use none just turn data off and it will use built in gps

  • If you are having problem with your card, then try to checkout with other browser. I was having problem with chrome then tried with IE. It was successful.

ATT MOD: Did the Optus rep you spoke to mention why they are still taking orders if they are out of stock? Was there any mention that they will honour backorders?

  • +1

I have just gone back in and ordered another one, after ordering 3 soon after this deal was posted. The silly system wouldn't accept AMEX as a payment type but my Visa (commbank) went through fine. I was emailed a confirmation of the first order instantaneously then rung by Optus about 40 minutes later to do an ID check and to confirm the order. Estimated delivery 12/7/11. I am putting these under the christmas tree for our kids. I have now just gone back in to order another one for my wife after seeing the deal was back on (after selling out today).

I love my Mytab…I got one about 2 weeks ago from the local auspost shop and have loved it in all manner of ways. I love the fact that I can use it as just about anything I want to browser, media player, games machine, radio, GPS navigator etc etc. But the other thing I absolutely love was the process of learning all about rooting and modding the tablet. I was positive I had bricked it many times but it always was recoverable, I have it overclocked and running sweetly now. At work it sits in a custom made cradle with the 3G switched off, I often listen to the radio or MP3 with it, and at the same time I have pictures of my family cycling through on the screen. It really is a jack of all trades and master of none!
Love it, and would highly recommend it to anyone with a spare $99 and time to get to know your new gadget!!

    • +2

Hmmmmmmm, Coincidence? lol.. Nice story though Bruv. Hope the kids love them ;)

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Optus-MyTab-ZTE-V9-/130543408552?…

      • +1

No coincidence. The ones I am selling on ebay currently are ones that I had sourced from far and wide, recruiting all sorts of methods to get them at $99 from a variety of auspost stores over the last few weeks.
I set out originally to buy, upgrade and sell them to be able to pay for my original $99 tablet.
I figured by buying and selling 3 additional ones to the original one I bought then I would make the required $99 (and therefore repay me for the time and energy I spent in learning how to correctly upgrade them to gingerbread, not to mention the stress involved with the risks of bricking them!!).

My goal, and if you read some of my previous deals over at buckscoop, has always been to try and get things cleverly for the cheapest possible price.

Like buying our TV when the PS3 deals were on, then selling the PS3, but at the same time signing up for 2x amex cards when they had $200 gift voucher deals going. By doing that we ended up with a beautiful new TV that was retailing at $2499 for $1000.
        http://www.buckscoop.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=24250

I love the challenge of getting things that I want as close to free as possible…
the Mytabs I ordered yesterday are not part of my original challenge (to myself)!

        QK!

        • Well done!

        • It's ok QK, We are tarred with the same brush mate. lol

    • I'd like to find the infos on how to properly tune it,
since there are infos scattered all around here was wondering if anyone organized them somewhere
-how to upgrade to latest possible undroid
      -overclock and settings
-any other suggested setting to improve the performances.

      cheers.

  • I just got a confirmation too after 3 tries lol yay

  • If order was taken, credit card was charged and confirmation of order was issued, then simply refund the money back to credit card is not a remedy for out of stock.

    • Yes it is if you read terms and conditions.

  • Has an anticipated delivery date etc on the confirmation so I can't see how they are out of stock - I think the website just crashed with so many ozbargainers wanting to buy them

  • +3

    Looks like I was too…

    (sunglasses on)

    tab-late

    YEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!

    • +1

      HOW DARE ANYONE NEG HORATIO!
      :P

  • Tried 3 different browsers (Firefox, Safari, IE), wouldn't process Visa card. Meh…

  • Heeheehee. XD. Got confirmation. Delivery 11/7/20. Awesome, that's Monday! Hope they don't cancel my order and throw money back at me.

  • I have both the mytab and the telstra t-pad. Bother were bought at $99. mytab has a lot of support in the community e.g. gingerbread etc. but T-pad once the Telstra bloatware is removed, has better hardware specs. front face camera, faster CPU capable of running both mozilla, and supporting flash natively which the mytab can't do. Both at $99 you can't go wrong either way. But I prefer to t-pad… just for the extra power…. front camera is kinda useless, as skype does not even support it…. mytab ok too… slightly lighter and smaller..

  • Just ordered one and got confirmation of delivery date of the 11/7. I don't really need it but the kids might have some fun:)

  • -8

Ordered 20! using 5 different emails and cards, woohoo going to sell them back and make a profit.

    • You got a bunch of different licences and id's too? heh

    • Didn't mod indicated there is no more stock? Optus probably will cancel those orders.

    • +1

      Successful troll is successful.

  • did not accept my Visa credit card

edit: not accepting my Amex either.

  • +1

I just got a call from Optus to verify my id,
    and they confirmed my order.

i ordered on firday at 18.00
    1 mytab
and i was registered to the waiting list(got the sms yest)

they told me 2 to 3 working days to get it(living in sydney metro)

  • -1

How big is it? Is it iPhone size or bigger?

  • +1

    Is this no longer available?
I can still access the link though

For those whos having issues with addresses, if your address is not listed chose the one closest to you and place the order and enter yr correct address in the notes field.
One the order is placed call the orders helpline with your order reference to fix the address. Optus support ppl r very helpful.

Like others mentioned leave a photo id at the delivery address.

  • Thanks..Just ordered one for myself..the delivery date comes out to be 11/07/11..so just waiting for monday !!

  • So is this not out of stock?

    • +1

probably, but it doesnt hurt to try right?
worst that could happen is u get a refund.

  • For those who can confirmed that your credit cards were charged, how did you check that out? I am with Westpac and believe their web site is not really real-time, I mean they are not showing the latest credit card transactions on-line.

    • +1

I'm with ANZ. There are 2 numbers: Balance amount and Available amount. The balance remains the same until the transaction is cleared, but the available amount was deducted. I can see my purchase for optus mytab in the outstanding transactions section.

  • Just ordered one online right now.
