  • It is no longer in stock, and they do not offer it as a prepaid device anymore.
  • It is only available as a post-paid product. See this Optus tablet plans.
  • Please remove this deal as soon as possible.

Well I won't remove this post, but it's now marked as expired. Moreover, DO NOT call Optus to ask about this prepaid product (apparently their call centre is overloaded by OzBargainers).

  • If the reps knew they don't have stock then we can use that as evidence if they reject our orders. If they knew then the site should have been updated.

  • Just ordered one for my mum (from this link) and also got a confirmation email (delivery due Monday 11/7/11). The main optus site however does not show these as available. I figure its coming

  • I just ordered and receiced a confirmation.. if optus does not have stock and still collecting our information because they can offer refund.. is this legal?

      from Bigpond No stock! ……. But now I receive daily mail.
       
      Due to this reason, a full refund has now been processed onto the PayPal account initially used to purchase.

      • just go to the optus page with the mytab and check out the reviews, you will get a online rep come to you and ask if he can help you. Then you can ask him if any stock is left

      My daughter likes to watch past episodes of Masterchef, something that's not possible on her ipod. Suppose she will have to make use of the Telstra T-Touch Tab instead.

          You need to use youtube app to play it just like iphone, no flash but you may play youtube

      Why would Optus need to call to confirm? We've given them the details and the courier wants to site ID too.

      Maybe those that got called had something that required clarification.

    i just ordered one. theres a checkbox option to have an optus rep call you (for whatever reason) available on one of the ordering screens. delivery due 12/07.

    • U r right.just leave that checkbox blank then they will not call u

      • Not so, I did not tick the check box (it is for people that do not wish to checkout then and there but wish to talk to someone about their order before entering delivery and payment details).
        I would imagine there is something that prompts for the phone call, either the details that you provide don't marry with their intial security checks or if you are not known to optus etc….not sure.
        One of my orders I got a call the other I didn't but for both I got a order confirmation.

  • Not sure why on earth optus want to do so many security checks on us just for a cheapie device and also prepaid not postpaid.feel like i am in communist country.

    • its government legislation , doesnt matter , if criminals , drug dealers etc want a prepaid sim then its easy enough to get , prepaid is very difficult to track the owner of

      • U r right.i bought my $2 sim for my spare mobile and no security checks whatsoever.

  • Is anyone familiar with Optus' packaging when ordering stuff online?

    I want to order one for my roommate who's birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I most likely won't be home to accept the package so my roommate will have to accept the package on behalf of me and I obviously don't want her seeing a box with a picture of the product and stuff (ie The regular box packaging like you would get from a store).

    You might think it's silly of me to be asking this, but since the courier wants to see the orderer's ID it's most likely going to be delivered by a private courier so it might be delivered in the regular MyTab box rather than being in a brown cardboard box.

      though i have nt orderd anythng with optus bt with three nd vodafone whch use auspost to deliver their orders the product is pakd in brown box..optus also uses auspost so i thnk it wud b box pakd..best of luck

  • Hi guys just bought this but it somehow seems pathetic from the cnet reviews. Eg.Cannot playback videos (divx, xvid) and also slow speeds with flakky wiki?? Why did this get so many positives?? It was one of the reasons I bought it. Is cnet for real or is there some way to fix the above "problems"? Thanks guys

    • I think when cnet done the review it still using Android 2.1 which may have those kind of issues. Can't blame cnet for that.

      DivX playback is possible (if the picture size of the encoded video is not too big). Anything 720p (mkv) - forget it. I found QQPlayer okay at playing DivX files on low end devices.

      People might get upset… but this device is over-hyped. $99 is a good price, but it has a few flaws. Also, the LCD screen on mine has a few bright colour pixels.

      $99 for a tablet… cannot expect too much.

      • So I should just transcode them in Handbrake?

        Any recommendations on a media player with a child lock? This could make a good pacifier for long car trips.

          Yes just transcode it in Handbrake. Android 2.2 should be able to play MPEG4 and H264, although my CM7/Android 2.3 seems to have problem playing H264. It's also not powerful enough to play 720p. Reduce the video to 480p and it should be fine.

          I mounted it on my car with a few hours of encoded DVD for my kids when I drove from Sydney to Gold Coast a week ago :)

          MoboPlayer has a screen lock feature.

  • I've got one already, and ordered another for my daughter. She's very likely to throw it around though.
    Has anyone found a good protective case for this? One that protects the corners, and back etc. Not one you have to take off to use - one that's always on it.

      Alternatively though, you could possible find a case that fits this 7" tablet

        I bought a case from Everbuying.com for about $13 that has adjustable metal tabs to hold the tablet, a magnetic fold out back stand and a magnetic clasp that is really functional. Free shipping! Go to http://www.everbuying.com/product34169.html It also has a USB keyboard that I can't get to work as the tablet doesn't appear to support OTG USB mode, however the case is still a good deal anyway. I put some velcro tabs on the back of the tablet case to hold it firmly in place in the case. These people also have a good assortment of cheaper bags and cases for all sizes of tablets.

    P.S - second my tab delivery eta is the 11th, my first one was the 12th? Odd.

  • I ordered online at 7.30am this morning (10/07). I live in Melbourne and eta says 11/07. Order process worked fine with no delays.

      Where does it show delivery is for the 11/07?

      • Shows it on the order confirmation page, once you've bought - it's the very last page in the process.
        I have estimated delivery on the 11th too, which seems pretty ambitious.

  • Weirdness for me - I bought a second one this morning based on the assumption that either wife or daughter will nick the first one. Anyway I have an order confirmation email but nothing has come up on my debit card… maybe they really are out of stock?

    If you bought today, is it showing up in your credit card?

    • I used Amex. Anthing on Amex doesn't usually show up until end of next business day on my account

          Seems very browser touchy.
          As others have said, clear yr cookies run CCleaner if you have it and try again.
          Worked for me with Firefox + Mastercard.

      Definitely use a MasterCard if you have access to one, I think some people were having problems with Visa.

        • I used my ANZ's Visa Debit to order without any problem. Keep trying, maybe it's the problem with the browser.

        • It may sounds obvious, but if anyone uses Debit cards, make sure you have enough funds in your account. I know some people keep most of their money in their Online Saver accounts and only leave some money in their saving accounts.

          Also make sure you've got the (CVV) Credit Card Code correct.

        • Another possibility is the name on your credit/debit card is different from the name you used to order. So try to use the exact name appears on your credit/debit card.

        • I finally got the phone call and 20 questions from Optus. Thats a lot of forking around for a prepaid device. I asked the guy about it and he said "yes, well it's because you paid with a credit card (duh!)]
          Anyway, Optus are acting like a company that has been stung on numerous occasions with online orders, so it seems they have ramped up their credit card security to "super anal".

          So for you Horror87, I'd say anything, the slightest mismatch/initial out of place and it would default to "decline". I'd be borrowing a friend/girlfriend/mum/dad/sister/brothers card and having a go.
          They definitely still have stock, but for how much longer…?

  • if they asked me 20 questions for a cheap device i will just ask them to cancel my order and refund my money.

    • …its crazy that after harvested our personal info.. we don't have an option or guarantee that they will erase it on their database in case the order was cancelled.

  • Typical optus.accepted orders,charged your cards,asked and collected your personal deails knowing they don't have enough stock to cover the sales.all just for a cheapie device.

  • Anyone get an SMS from optus (0421 290416) "Please contact Optus on 1300 308 730 regarding your delivery. Regards Optus"?

    I called and got a real person almost immediately. He told me that a number of orders would be delayed due to some problem with their ordering system, so some orders have blank information - mine included - which will need to be re-entered manually. Delivery is delayed to later this week (was supposed to be delivered Tue 12/7).

    Anyone in the same boat?

    • Haven't heard anything yet, but noticed my credit card has now been charged :D

      From what you have said it sounds promising though, in that it seems they will be honouring the orders instead of cancelling them, but with delayed delivery.

  • I still can't track my order. My debit card was charged. I should have asked this earlier, but does anyone know what time they usually deliver? I don't want to stay home all day just to wait for the delivery.

      According to the Optus rep I spoke to, the tracking function only activates once AustPost picks up your parcel, which is the evening before your expected delivery date.

      They won't commit to a time except to say "between 8am and 5pm".

      If you're not available, they'll just drop it off at the nearest post office and you can pickup from there.

    I still havent received my order on 20/06.

    I rang them today. They said my order have a blank information, everthough the sale rep call me a few time when i place an order.

    then i ask about my recently order on 9/07 and they said it is the same problem. no information in the order. :(

    • Yeah. I had the same "Blank Order" problem.
      I actually called the support centre to correct my address and while in the process of checking the address, the guy said my order was blank. He was able to see the amount though.
      He fixed it in couple a mins and said they'd send the units out the next day.

      But i only received it a week later… Im not complaining as I was told there'd be a 2-3 week delay and I got it within 10 days

      I've been pretty impressed with it. So easy to run modded roms. Am running Gingerbread via cyanomod roms…. !!!

        so total 1 month !!!

        • I call with that number and it should be fine, just need to wait them to transfer you to a correct division.
          What they tell is for preorder customer will got it and the reason they asking about address etc because they received a blank address from the sales which cause them some additional work for this. Currently their ETA will be in this week but they said there will be a delivery confirmation again soon.
