Optus Prepaid MyTab Back by Popular Demand - $99!!!!

2110

Just received an SMS from Optus saying mytabs can be ordered online.

Offer is valid till 15th of July

http://www.optus.com.au/mytaborders

http://www.optus.com.au/store/phone/mytab_prepaid_orders?sid…

Mod: Just got an email from Optus' Social Media Team, basically

  • It is no longer in stock, and they do not offer it as a prepaid device anymore.
  • It is only available as a post-paid product. See this Optus tablet plans.
  • Please remove this deal as soon as possible.

Well I won't remove this post, but it's now marked as expired. Moreover, DO NOT call Optus to ask about this prepaid product (apparently their call centre is overloaded by OzBargainers).

Mod (9/7): Appears to be back in stock. Reopened until further advice.
Mod (11/7): Out of stock again.

it is addressee only delivery, so family member can't sign and collect it unfortunately

      • oh that sucks! I'm not getting home till 7pm tonight so if it does come today I'll have to pick it up from the post office tomorrow! Was hoping to play with it tonight! damn!

        • +1

Not all post office open on Saturday

      • +1

No, anyone with valid ID( driving license or australian passport) can accept it.

      • same as me, even I sent the authority, the post office did not accept it. have to wait till Monday morning.

    • congrats! Do you know if it comes pre-installed with android 2.2? Or do you need to manually upgrade from 2.1?

      Cheers,
      Dunc

      • Newer stock comes with 2.2.
Even if it is 2.1 its pretty easy to install 2.2 or modded roms.

        • Android newby here. What's the method for checking your version?

        • +2

From home screen, press Menu, Settings, About, you'll find Android version.

        • Still come locked?

      • Saturday Order, just arrived. it came with android 2.2

  • mine still says "Received from linehaul"

    • +1

it is just on the way. you will definitely get it today, if you live in the big cities. dont worry.

      • Picked up my one from the Post offie yesterday…

  • Good to see people are starting to receive their mytab.

Good ending to a week filled with angst!

    TGIF!!!

  • Wonder if any WA people will receive it today.. would be nice to have for the weekend.

    • Alrighty.. status has just gone from Received for linehaul to Received from linehaul..
That tracking site's gonna get a hammering today :) (as well as a few F5 keys)

  • I got mine this morning.

  • now, anyone can point me to the site where i can learn to upgrade the rom/android system? i know i can do my searching, just being lazy:)thanks.

    • +2

thats real lazy ;) there is a link in these comments..

  • Just got them. Thanks mr postman

  • Received from linehaul - as I eagerly look out the front window for a delivery driver..

  • Mines still "Received for linehaul".

  • for the guys receiving it today:
did u place the order on friday arvo\evening? or saturday and sunday too?
and preregistered to the page or just did the order?
    cheers.

    • Friday arvo for me.

    • Friday - 6.20pm. No pre-register.

    • Friday Arvo and I was pre-registered

    • Friday arvo about 4pm

    • same as above

    • friday 18 was prereg and after a call to optus i should get it mid next week…

    • I ordered late on Saturday arvo. No pre-reg.
Postie came at 10am today - Brisbane suburbs.

  • Received mine just now.

Could anyone advise whether the SIM pack inside of the box or not? For me, just a ZTE Tab in it.

    • Look in the paperwork

      • OMB My Tab prepaid bundle pack
Optus prepaid ZTE V9 7" Tablet SL Handset
Optus OMB ZTE Tablet Starter Kit

Seems three items, but only the handset received. Are they delivered separately?

        • +2

          They all in one box.

  • I think it makes no difference as I ordered mine on Sunday and have "received from linehaul" as my status. Delivery is to the Sydney CBD.

    • Are you pre-registered before ?

      • no i didn't pre-register

  • Received mine just now, order Saturday nigh. One more to come.
Edit: 2nd unit also arrived :).

    • Don't think Sydney got priority.. I'm in WA and mine is received from linehaul.. not in my hands yet though.

      • And now its in my hands..
Box says Android 2.1 on it, but 2.2 is installed.
SIM card is in little brochure slipped between outer sleeve and box. Expiry of 08/2012

    • hey, I'm also in Melbourne and my status has changed to 'Received from linehaul', so I guess there must a stack of them sitting somewhere in Melbourne?!

    • I'm in Canberra with status 'Received from linehaul'

      • Received from linehaul = Item has arrived at destination and is ready for courier to collect > Item will be collected by the courier and delivered to the supplied address

        • Received for linehaul = Has been picked up from the Optus warehouse and is ready for transit to the destination

which is different from recieve from linehaul …. damn i googled granville which is in NSW

Mine is still at receive for linehaul :P

  • My one says Delivered, but I haven't gotten anything yet! :(

  • Arrived. Saturday order.

  • Takes a bit of getting used to going back to resistive touch though doesn't it..

  • ARRIVED !!! Off to play :-)

  • Just received mine. Postman said he is having a busy day, haha thanks to ozbargainers. Thums up for posting this deal.

  • Got mine Just now. Ordered on Fri, Jul 8 at 7:55 PM.
Now charging. Is it OK to use while charging for the first time?

    • +2

No…. It will catch fire and burst into pieces!! :P

Its quite safe to use while charging :)

  • Bad luck. I leave my office address. The postman came to office in 7:50am. But we start work on 8:30am. Just give optus a call. they will re send next week.

    • wouldnt they have left it at the local PO?

      • I don't know. The helpdesk just answered me to wait delivery next week. This time, I mention them not come that early.

    • it is the reason i left my office address not my home address.

  • another question, how can i unlock the device? or do i need to unlock it, if i will root it? if i root it, will lose those 3g data?

    • i rooted it and installed CM7.

Got unlocked and I tried with a 3sim.. it worked fine.

  • Mine just arrived in Perth (Cockburn Central 6164).

I ordered Friday night and did not pre-register.

  • Finally mine shown on the tracking website. Too bad it will come on Monday.

  • +2

    • Thanks kwetiaw, worked with mine :-D

  • My status has been updated to "Carded to Post Office"…hopefully can grab the card from my house at lunch time, then swing by the PO after work : )

  • Got mine! Melbourne CBD delivered at 12:15pm. Delivery guy won't leave anything without checking photo ID and a signature.

  • Ordered on 8 July. Just received it today, the 15th of July. Perth, WA. I had to show my drivers' license and sign for it. Good thing I got it sent to work then, instead of home…

  • Has anyone in Adelaide received their delivery? My status is still "received for linehaul". Ordered it Friday afternoon just after got the sms from Optus. Sorry if I missed comments saying that you've had received as there are lots of comments here! :D

    • +1

I am in Adelaide. The postman delivery to my office in 7:50am. Bad no people in office because we start 8:30

    • About 30 mins after I made this comment my status quickly changed to "Delivered". Was a bit surprised as I had not received anything then. I checked my mailbox and it turned out that they had left a notification to pick up my delivery at my local post office. I might not heard them when the delivery guy came. At the post office there was no strict ID check as I just gave them my ID and no presentation of the credit card I used to buy the tab and off I went with my mytab. So I guess picking it up at post office is easier than receiving it from the delivery guy as they usually require ID and credit card used

  • The tracing website show nothing, but recieved minute ago. Brisbang CBD

  • Thought I'd ask here as likely to get a response quicker..

How do I boot into recovery from power off? I'm holding vol down, but getting stuck at android image.
However, can reboot into recovery ok from ROM manager and also works after OneClickv9_v4.0.0.5 installs and reboots.

Just want to make sure I can get back into recovery from power off if something goes wrong with CM7 install.

    • OK, sorted it. In case anyone else is in same boat as me, I updated to 4.0.0.8 and can boot with vol down into recovery now.

I updated from recovery using this file: http://android.podtwo.com/recovery/recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.…

    • As stated previously, this is a great guide:

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1713293

On the last page Steve J posted a zip file with everything you need inside, my tab is now cm7'd and I'm going to start doing some other mods soon (overclock cpu!!!)

      • That bundle is not the latest version tho should be noted.
So my overclock seems stable at 787, haven't taken higher yet. Dropped back to 748 for now tho

      • Yep, hopefully someone will update the instructions with the new firmware, from what I've read it looks like we'll be getting pinch to zoom!

        • I don't think so since resistive screen is not support multi touch

        • +1

Procedure is pretty much the same. Latest here:
          http://android.modaco.com/topic/340064-romgingerbreadcm7-wor…

My recommended procedure, there is probably more direct ways, but this was easiest for me.

          Get these files:
          CWM 4.0.0.5 - http://www.mediafire.com/?26van0x5dx0rwdq
          CWM 4.0.0.8 unofficial update - http://android.podtwo.com/recovery/recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.…
          AHB overclock (optional i think) - http://www.mediafire.com/?xae610lk9mu68ao
          Google apps - http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
          CM7 RC1 (2011-07-11) - http://www.mediafire.com/?11v8jvnym999f7w

First, copy all files to SD Card

Install CWM 4.0.0.5 (This one appears to get root by itself so z4root shouldnt be necessary, not sure though)
          It will reboot into recovery.

Use the volume up and down and power button to navigate the menus.

First do a backup. From memory, select Backup and Restore, then backup.

          Select "install zip from sdcard"
          Select "choose zip from sdcard"
Navigate to and select the zips in following order:
          - recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.8-v9-gen2-update_signed.zip
*** Not sure if a reboot is necessary after updating CWM. I did to check it was installed.
If you reboot, you can get back into recovery by holding down volume down when you power on.
          - update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-V9-KANG-signed-20110711.zip
          - cm7_zte_v9_overclockable_kernel_ahb_20110711.zip
          - gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

Clear caches, this step is essential, or problems will be encountered booting.

          click Go Back
select wipe data/factory reset, and confirm
          click advanced
click wipe dalvik cache, and confirm
          click fix permissions

Thats it, select Go Back, and reboot system now.

Wait a while as it reboots (it takes a lot longer than a normal boot)

So basically the same, but we do a backup and install a CWM that allows us to actually boot into it if something goes wrong and we need to restore.

And as far as the pinch to zoom, its not perfect but better than nothing I guess. At the moment its more like a 2 finger slide than pinching.

Thanks to http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus for some info.

        • Good guide bamzero, but for 711+ you do not need google apps as they're automatically bundled in, as for the new 715 version released the procedure is a little different and you can read a bit about it recently posted on the whirlpool forums here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1713293&p…

Basically it involves some messing around with DFU mode and COM ports but really it's very easy once you see what you're doing, just be careful not to install the AHB kernel and then reboot (without installing the new firmware first) I've partly bricked my device because it's trying to boot on a kernel which is a few versions ahead of the current firmware, going to have to try going back to default 2.2 and start again :(

Overall it's been a great learning experience and I think anyone with a little bit of computer knowledge could do this, feel free to PM me with any questions about the process.

        • If anyone bricks their device they can recover it with this tool:

          http://www.mediafire.com/?fn37pg4pheisnzt

But I would always try using the official Optus 2.2 computer fix/upgrade first as my upload is generic firmware.

        • Booting into DFU and the COM ports is only if you want to partition the NAND. Looks a bit complicated.

Installed 0711 yesterday to find the new 0715.
Updating from the 0711 build seemed pretty straightforward.
          You need:
          CM7 RC1 (2011-07-15) http://www.mediafire.com/?wmqhpcb98189ls9
          AHB OC for 2011-07-15 http://www.mediafire.com/?fpr1mhpbt1p9npa
And optionally CWM 4.0.0.8 update http://android.podtwo.com/recovery/recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.…

Boot into recovery (hold power - reboot - recovery)
Optionally Install zip from SD - CWM update - reboot recovery
Install CM7 0715 from zip - wipe cache partition - wipe dalvik cache - fix permissions
Install AHB OC 0715 from zip
          Reboot

All settings/apps remain untouched just updated ROM from what I can tell.
Ran mine OC'd to 787mhz and it hung once - not sure if it was the OC. 768mhz seems quite stable.

          edit:
          Repartitioning guide here http://android.modaco.com/topic/342556-repartition-nand-for-…
Doesn't look too bad, might give it a go

  • OMG still havent gotten mine, its at received from linehaul!!! Cannot leave house until I get it. Sooo painful LOL

    • +1

If we don't get them today, do the couriers work on Saturdays?? Don't fancy waiting till Monday!

  • Delivery (failed attempts)- (1)
What a load of crap. I have been home all day and have a security camera on the front door and no one came all day. Damn

    • +1

It's probably at the Post Office. I had the same thing, and no mention of it being carded, but dropped into the Post Office and they had it.
Was also able to track the order via the OPOM Number on Australian Air Express's Site.

      • where did you put the opom number in?

        • I really hate AAE. Tracked it on the AAE website and they sent my package to the wrong post code again so they just dropped it off at the closest australia post office and then australia post delivers it to the correct post office.

berserkk you can track it at http://www.aae.com.au/

  • Got both of mine today in WA at around 12pm. Rooted and cm7'd by 2pm (with a couple of hickups)

    • +1

nice, i just got mine at 5:40PM in WA. Now unboxing. I am very surprised that it was quick, was thinking I will get it next week, also surprised that they sent the package via airmail express. Two thumbs up!

Based in Melbourne and been sitting on received from linehaul all day. Very disappointed by the no show.

  • Delivered to my work address in Adelaide an hour ago, had to show my driver's license to the courier…

    Sweet! :)

  • mine said carded, but post office didnt have it, and messenger post are saying its been signed for now.. so someone else might have mine.. grrrr

    • Really odd since they're so strict on the whole ID check.

P.S - Did anyone else here have to sign on one of those electronic scanners? I pretty much drew a tornado and the guy accepted it, I can never do my signature on them.

      • yeah its very weird, when it wasnt at the post office, we called messenger post who said someone had accepted it with a passport i.d., but the passport number they had obviously isn't my passport or license

        • There's an Australian Post sticker on my box that says:

CUSTOMER IDENTIFICATION - Addressee only to sign. Current Passport or Australian Drivers Licence required (At time of delivery or collection).

I would check with them again…

      • chicken scratchings and had to give drivers licence number.

  • +3

Kind of wierd to see all these comments above about delivery of "mine" from people who, by ordering one, have recognised this post as offering a bargain, and yet who haven't given a positive vote!

Just a suggestion… though the thought has crossed my mind to start negging your comments above (and please neg me if you disagree!).

    • Aint that sad?
