A Simple Trick to Use Microsoft Office Legally for Free Forever

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Probably many people would've been aware of this simple trick excluding me until few days ago. Came across this article on lifehacker describing how to do it. Basically you can get access to all the microsoft apps for free albeit slightly limited functionality, by logging on to your microsoft account page and access them from there. This is for you if you are not looking for more than 5GB cloud storage (cause you'll need to pay for more), and will need internet connection whenever you are using microsoft office. Head to the article for more info.

This is just office online which has always been free

Office online has been free for many years. Not much of a bargain; probably better as a reminder in the forums.

Online office has been free for ages.

    Edit : Beaten. :)

Google Docs has more functionality than Office Online, even for Office file formats

  • Probably many people would've been aware of this simple trick. Basically you can get access to some microsoft office apps for free albeit slightly limited functionality. All you need is a Windows Phone 8/8.1 or Windows 10 Mobile.

  • I just paid the $3.80 for the 5 year subscription using an ebay code. works a treat

Suggest you do further research to see why its not a good idea lol .

      • I did, I dont have any of my docs stored using cloud storage, its setup on a laptop purely used for office alone. 7 months in thus far no dramas. Unless im missing something

        • And yes im aware its piracy and im screwing teh developers and its illegal and its an education licence that is fraudulently created.

    Clickbait

  • i only just discovered you can use windows 10 unactivated a couple of days ago …

  • Most schools/employers have corporate accounts with Microsoft which includes free office suite.

And the online version's terrible, would rather use google docs.

Merged from Free Microsoft Word/Powerpoint/Excel Web Versions with Microsoft Account (Outlook/Hotmail)
    Go to Deal

I dont think this has been shared here, but recently i got to know that you can access free web version of MS word, excel and power point if you have a Microsoft account such as Outlook ot hotmail email accounts.

If you do not have a Microsoft account, create a new one which will mostly have outlook.com extension as email and you can use the same id to login to Office.com and and access these applications along with oneNote, Skype and Onedrive (you will get 5GB capacity)

I thought it was always free even without an account?

      • +2

I always thought that you need to subscribe for accessing these applications. I know that the mobile apps were made free a long time ago but wasn't aware of the web version

        • Definitely do for the desktop versions. Weridly I tried to pull up Word online without an account and it just gave me a white screen, didn't ask me to log in.

          • @Void: If you're accessing it from a windows 8 or above and have a Microsoft account associated with your login (most probably) then it may have automatically used that to access the web service.

It is always free. There is no saving here. This belongs in the forums…

So to confirm, there needs to be a monetary value in order for it to be a deal? Why was that "deal" of people turning their modem off and on again to get more speed out of their NBN allowed then?

            @Spootage:

So to confirm, there needs to be a monetary value in order for it to be a deal?

There needs to be a saving from the normal price. Either a price reduction that makes it cheaper than other stores, or something that is now free that you had to pay for normally… Something that is always free is not a bargain.

If you can get at this price all the time, it is not a bargain, just an announcement or an advertisement. It belongs in the forums.

          • +2

@Spootage: I think for this particular one it has always been available and accessible for anyone with a Microsoft account and a web browser; there's no action required to activate these features, everyone just has them by default.

      • No need to think people. Just go and check and come back with facts. No reason to confuse people with your thoughts 💭

Just a heads up, but MS will delete all of your hotmail emails if you don't log in every 12 months. Whatever childhood love letters you were sending over hotmail are probably long gone by now.

      • +2

They deleted my account years ago too. :(

      • Yup this is why I refuse to use hotmail/outlook etc.

        • You can auto-archive emails be setting up some simple rules.

not really a deal. more like a PSA. The web version is all right, but does lack some features. Most people can get by with this.

Its good to be able to just click save, its always annoyed me how google pushed those weird open source save formats that had a small chance of corrupting's or messing up formats. I was a huge fan of open office and google docs for years, but a dozen times I lost important files.

    • Isn't this a long-running "deal" (or PSA)?
