Hi, I know a lot of people don't like pre-orders, but I just noticed that Amazon is giving a $5 PRIME savings discount at checkout for video game pre-orders. You have to checkout each game separately but. I pre-ordered 3 games and when I had them all in my cart, the $5 off only applied once. So I did them separately and got $5 off each at checkout. Don't forget cashback too, but I'm pretty sure cashback only applies for games less than 60 days away from release at time of purchase. I also closed Amazon and shopback and reloaded them between each purchase so as to ensure proper tracking (not sure if that matters, I was just being pedantic). I used the link for death stranding as that was one of the games I pre-ordered, but every pre-order I checked had the same promo available. Please note, if you have pre-orders currently pending you should cancel them and re order to get this $5 off.

  • Fallen order PC just ends up same price as JB.

  • So if I pre-order a game with this and the price goes down before release, do I still get $5 off that lower price?
Also, sort of unrelated, but if I pre-order a game with the $20 off McDonalds voucher and it goes under $79 before it releases, do I still get the $20 off?

You will still get $5 off that lower price if it drops before release. With the McDonald's thing I'm guessing it's $20 off minimum $79 spend is it? So hypothetically if your order was $79 exactly, you applied the $20 voucher, so you're gonna be charged $59 at time of shipping. Then if the game drops in price before shipping you will still have $20 off the new lower price. I am fairly confident that is what would happen, but I'm not 100%. When you have a promotional discount in an order, it shows the price of the item, then the discount, and then the total. So if the price of the item drops, the promotional discount will stay the same regardless, as the order is already created. I just can't see Amazon trying to over-complicate things in a way that annoys the customer. I'm sure you could ask over the Amazon chat thing to confirm.

  • This maybe a dumb question but do they charge you when you preorder or when they send it?

    • +1

When they send it. Well maybe a day or 2 before it ships. So you can cancel anytime up until before they charge you.

Actually in pretty sure they take the money the day they send it.

      • +1

Yeah they charge on the day it ships.

    • Amazon charge when they send.

    • They charge you just before it leaves their warehouse.

Do I still get the $5 dollar discount and the free delivery if I subscribe for 1 month? or Do I need to have a valid subscription on the day the game releases to get the benefit?

  • And, with the exception of FFVII Remake, that’ll just about see me out for the generation. I’m glad Amazon takes payment when they ship, or today would have really hurt.

  • can someone confirm how much shop back is on preorders for video games

    • +1

It's usually 4.5%, you can check in the list. Video games.

Just checked. It's now 3.5%. And cash rewards is the same. Fingers crossed there is a 10% site wide sometime in the near future.

The new joy con colours are showing the $5 off too, even though they are not pre orders any more.

  • I randomly got the $5 off when ordering Dragon XI on the Switch yesterday, haven't checked if I can reproduce but worth looking into for those interested.

  • I was kinda hoping to buy all Switch games digital, but $63 each for Pokemon Shield and Sword is difficult to pass up, especially when it’s still unknown how much it will cost on the eShop.

    • my guess for eShop is it'll match EB Games ($79.95) with possibly a preorder promo where you get double the gold coins for the purchase. Pretty much how other recent first party titles have been sold.

You can get 2 game vouchers for 134.95 AUD. Less if you use discounted giftcards. Though I wouldn't since I prefer physical.

Preordered Ring Fit Adventure and FFVII Remake.

    • As a Digital Only guy I sort of slept on this promotion and passed it over.

I forgot about Ring Fit and how there probably won't be an Eshop version/ring sold separately though, thanks for the reminder!
Looks like just in general it's already cheaper than other stores, even before the $5 promo :D

  • Can I preorder borderlands 3 for steam?

  • I’d give up my Ozb badge if I couldn’t beat $5 preorder !

  • Ill be waiting for a $10 discount if there will be one or a hn deal like bl3 which was $60

  • Luigis Mansion 3 is now only $59

  • Not having pre-ordered through Amazon before, does anyone know if you still get any pre-order bonuses? I see that games like Fallen Order have some.

    • I just got a pre-order bonus with my nba2k20 which wasn't actually a pre-order.

    • I pre-ordered JUMP FORCE and never got any pre-order bonuses.
I think it may depend on the game and the time you pre-order (I pre-ordered mine 3 days before release).

    • I got a pre-order bonus with Pokémon Sword and Shield

List doesn't look great I only buy games under $20
