Reminder: Kogan NBN Bronze Now More Expensive than Going Directly with Vodafone NBN

Just a note some plans are now more expensive on Kogan NBN including the Bronze plan $63.90 and the Gold plan $75.90.

I think the bronze might be a mistake on their behalf since the discount from NBN wholesale is now in effect so the plan should have gone down in price, not up.

Either way, for the time being, let's just assume what is on their website is correct.

There is no contract so, might be a good time to leave whilst the iron is still heating up.

NB: Free modem is now only available on Gold plan too.

  • You think the pointless, profit seeking middleman in between you and NBN made a mistake when you worked out that it was more expensive.

Why? Their entire reason for existing is to sell NBN services at a higher price than NBN sells it.

  • This isn't true, vodafone NBN costs much more because they force you to buy their wifi modem if you cancel at 6 months. Otherwise you pay $89/month for 100/40 unlimited after 6 months.

    • There has been a no modem option for several months now. It's fact checked already. Furthermore, I'm not sure what you mean by 6 months because it's 36 months if you want the 4g backup enabled modem. (Oh right, the gold plan, yeah; but that comes with huge caveats as we have already seen drastic price changes randomly - Vodafone NBN may still be cheaper in 6 months time. - See last paragraph for commentary.)

Either way, we can see that as the NBN reduces wholesale prices, the actual prices of the telcos will start to go up. What a strange time we live in, indeed.

At the moment for the Kogan bronze plan, you'd be stupid to be on it as the alternatives like Aussie Broadband, albeit not unlimited, will have superior international connectivity and speeds. If you are going to get the NBN 25, chances are you won't be using more than 500GB a month.

If you are on Kogan, well make sure you are doing more than 500GB a month to get your worth.

If you want my personal opinion, in 6 months time the Gold plan on Kogan will undoubtedly rise to over $89 a month. Just come back and watch this space. They did it for the bronze, and I suspect it will happen to the gold plan.
