[NSW] Can I Get A Penalty Notice for High Beam Light Reviewed?

ahhh

I was stopped by the cops for using high beam light at night..
Well I did have the light on when the cops happened to be around..
but that was a dark rd and I was turning so kind of wanted a good view at night..
and so I got my letter..
I know I did do sth wrong in front of the cops and I don't have high expectation on being able to waive it off…but I'm planning to request a review anyway

Just wondering does anyone ever get caught for this before? and any successful/unsuccessful stories re reviewing penalty notice?

  • Ugh, yes you did the wrong thing and you should feel bad… https://cheezburger.com/9762565/insufferable-memes-about-a-h…

  • The majority of cars thesedays (esp SUVs) have such bright headlights, aimed at such a high angle, that unless you're travelling 200kph you'd hardly even need to bother with high beams at all! If he/she was pottering around a residential area at 50-60kph, I would suggest a trip to the optometrist might be in order too.

    • The headlights shone are still angled downwards to some degree/point.
I just hate when they are stopped behind and driving so close behind that the rear view reflects diretc to your eyes. I guess that's what that little knob under the mirror si for though

  • No chance. The cops are a law unto themselves. Like most people have flagged. Maybe there is some work that needs to be done to either sort out your car or get an eye test (or both). Possibly cheaper than the infringement notice.

  • You have no chance.

Not being able to see clearly is no excuse to high beam an on coming car, now he can't see either.

If you are ever on the road and can't see clearly then you should slow down and even stop if necessary.

Sorry no sympathy from me. I drive on rural roads sometimes and I've lost count the amount of times some asshat driver had their high beam on over a hill or around a corner. Get your car light fixed, buy a new car with better lights or get your eyes checked. If you're normal headlights aren't doing the trick, that's on you.

Whenever I drive on Rural Roads at night, I can see if there is a car coming the other way around a corner. If there is, i turn high beams off.

If there isn't, I leave it on (for my own safety).

Going over a crest/hill, I'd definitely turn it off.

Normal lights are OK - but they don't illuminate everything around you. I'd prefer be able to scan the surroundings to see if there is a Roo that is going to be jumping onto the road.

Notwithstanding the above, I do leave my hands on the highbeam to make sure i can switch it off easily/faast.

      • They should make a dedicated HighB button accessible to the thumb on the steering wheel, instead of the lever

        • I thought they did? My car does

ah - the classic one post wonder

posted the question two days ago - has not commented here since

either did not return, or didn't like the answers they got, so stayed away …

  • Hi, you broke the law, the Cops observed you do it, they probably have proof on dash cam.

Don't waste your time with a review.

  • pay the fine and move on

  • How big is the fine OP?
Are you fighting over $20? Since they caught you red handed just pay the fine and move on.

    • $114 fine and loss of 2 demerit points.

Fcking hate you high beamers. You should burn in hell

  • OP you deserve it.

What's the point of high beam if you're not supposed to use it?

  • Tell them you have cataraCt so you can't see at night in normal conditions

If you need to use high beams on a normal street then you're either going way too fast or you need your eyes fixed

    • Or the third option - you're driving thru a heavily canyoned area full of trees and houses which get even darker at night.

Or the fourth - it's a narrow street on a dark night and you want to be extra sure there are no hazards ahead.

Or the fifth - NSW bushfires cause immense amounts of smoke to cover the air, making it impossible to see more than a few metres ahead. Sydney has been a smokehouse for the past week.

List goes on. High beams are on cars for many reasons. But given OP is in NSW, his chances of getting a fine waived are about as high as Saudi Arabia honoring human rights.
