eBay Australia: 12% Cashback @ Cashrewards (No Cap, No Min Spend, Includes Officeworks, Desktop Browser, Excludes Coupons)

7340

Hi all. As you're probably aware, we recently re-launched eBay Australia on desktop browsers (mobile & app coming soon). We’ve increased Cashback to 12% (up from 1%) with no minimum spend and no cap, starting at 7:45am AEDT. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the terms below, as there are certain exclusions and caveats.

Even though discount coupons are excluded, the great thing here is that cashback applies to stores that normally don’t participate in eBay promos such as Officeworks & Bunnings. And yes, eBay gift cards are OK to use as payment. Please note that eBay tracking is not instant and transactions may take up to 4 days to appear in your Cashrewards account. Increase ends 11:59pm AEDT. Enjoy :)

eBay Australia Cashback Terms:

  • Until further notice, Cashback on eBay AU is available only when shopping via a desktop browser. Cashback is ineligible if shopping via the mobile site, the Cashrewards app, or the eBay app.
  • Cashback is ineligible if discount coupons or promo codes are applied to any transaction.
  • Cashback is eligible on purchases paid with gift cards.
  • Cashback is ineligible on items purchased from the following categories: Gift Cards, Vouchers, Coupons, Charity & Non-Profit, eBay Plus Memberships, eBay Motors, Boats, Cars, Bikes, Stamps, Tickets, Coins, Money, Gold Bullion, Travel, Services, Real Estate.
  • Cashback is ineligible if you add items to your eBay watch list and purchase or bid more than 24 hours later.
  • Cashback is ineligible on auctions won with bid sniping tools.
  • Do not click on advertising banners or sponsored links on the eBay website - this may result in not earning Cashback.
  • If anything within a basket is unpaid or returned, Cashback for the whole basket will be declined.
  • Sales values are calculated based on currency conversions provided by eBay. Cashback is based upon these reported values.

@daitro: Sorry… what exactly was I supposed to tell you? The condition is there to warn people that they won't get cashback if they have items sitting there longer than 24 hours.

                  • +12

@daitro: I honestly have no idea why the criticism. I'm trying to be as helpful as I possibly can, but you made the decision to go ahead with the purchase. The OP and the terms clearly state the condition around the 24 hour timeframe, and I certainly don't have the authority to change the terms provided by eBay. I responded as best I could when asked about a workaround. Thanks again.

                      • +5

                        @daitro:

why have the condition to begin with

Last time I'll comment on this issue

I certainly don't have the authority to change the terms provided by eBay.

                      • +5

@daitro: The condition is set by eBay, not TA. So you can complain to eBay.

                          • +9

@daitro: So just to be clear. You did something slightly stupid and now you want ebay to know about it so everyone else can suffer. You seem to want others to have to pay more.

                          • @daitro: Hey man, I think you could probably relax a little here TA is trying to help. In short, if you clicked from Cashrewards and checked out within 24 hours your sale will track and all will be well. If you didn't click from cashrewards and then transact within 24 hours then the sale won't track. That fact remains whether its today or any other day of the year.

                      • +1

@daitro: Well aren't you a delight. The condition is set by eBay. It's not TA's or CR's special top secret workaround, he's just trying to help with a suggestion on how to work around eBay's condition. How hard is that to understand?

            • @tightarse: To clarify, is "Saved for later" seperate to "Watch List"? I spent $1500 and am hoping it got tracked.

              • +1

@elli0t: UPDATE: It tracked :) $180 expected cashback. Stoked

        • +1

Hi mate just wondering can I use eBay voucher? I have one from eBay price match.

          • @Patrick D: same question

            • @venomx2: No. Use those codes to buy an eBay gift card
Then use the gift cards ;)

              • +1

@Ricky83: I literally just did this exact thing lol. The whole voucher must be used in one transaction too so just bought a $150 giftcard.

  • +2

Cashback is ineligible if discount coupons or promo codes are applied to any transaction.

This makes me to “let it go”

    • A simple way to look at this is that you essentially get Harvey Tax back when buying a feeBay item from a overseas seller. Worth considering.

  • +1

Pleasantly surprised, I didn't even notice the increased rate when I clicked on it this morning, spent $200 on a private seller.

  • +3

I'm sure wishlist is different to a watchlist. How do you even add items to a wishlist?

Also, just to make sure, purchasing or bidding on a non-excluded item from overseas seller will also be eligible for cashback?

    • +1

Good point, wishlist is Amazon, watchlist is eBay. This part needs some clarification I reckon.

      • +2

The wording is different but they literally mean the same thing and also function the same way.

        • +1

          Does that mean that if

          1. I add an item to my watchlist today, I won't be able to get the cashback tomorrow?
          2. I added an item to my watchlist yesterday and purchase it today, I won't get the cashback?

Point 1 would be obvious. Point 2 would make watchlists a lot less useful.

        • +1

ebay has both a watchlist and a wishlist. For some reason - apparently.

          • @GregMonarch: They used to have 2 separate button for that. But these days I only see the “add to watch” I think. So, maybe still there but hidden?

            • @hanofee: It's in the down arrow on the "Add to Watchlist" button.

    • +1

Oh I didn't realise they were different. Can Cashrewards confirm?
I just realised that eBay has both Wishlists and Watchlists.

      • For the purposes of Cashback, we refer only to watch list. The original typo in the terms has now been corrected. Thanks.

        • -3

How are we supposed to determine when something was precisely added to our watchlist when ebay does not provide this precise time or date an item was added, in any fashion, whatsoever? You're making us take a gamble by hoping we added the item within less than the past 24 hours.

        • +1

So if I remove an item from the watchlist and then immediately purchase it, will it qualify? Or is there a cooling off period an item needs to be off the watchlist before it qualifies?

I'm looking at a $1,000+ purchase so this bit is crucial.

Found cashback overall customer service has dropped since ShopBack.

    1. Missing claims (even with desktop add on enabled)
    2. Not responding to cash back claims
    3. Not responding to general enqueries

With shopback, Never had a missed claim let alone ignoring customer questions.

Shame CB has come to this even with these attempts to try to compete with shopback

    • +9

Found cashback overall customer service has dropped since ShopBack.

This is certainly not the case. We pride ourselves on our member service interaction and speed to response.

Not responding to cash back claims or general enquiries.

I can guarantee that your queries have been responded to. Every time this comes up, I ask the members for their CR email address. I then provide a screenshot of the response clearly showing the time, date, and email address it was sent to. 100% of the time the response is "Sorry, it was in my junk/spam folder". Please check, and ensure you whitelist the Cashrewards domain.

Shame CB has come to this even with these attempts to try to compete with shopback.

Not sure what you mean. The advent of competition is great as it's grown the segment for everyone. We've doubled our member base since they launched in Australia and sales continue to break records for us and our affiliate partners.

      • +5

I guarantee I did not receive any responses.

        1. Cashback claim overdue for a number of months. Followed up and no response received for 2 weeks and CB claim cancelled.

        2. Sent follow up general enqury about the above and no response received.

No cashback emails have ever gone to junk mail now or before.

        • +3

Please PM me your CR email address.

          • @tightarse: For the record, no PM received from T-800 with request to investigate.

        • grass is always greener outside CR. If you are not happy with them ,try others .

      • Glad CR doing so well, they deserve it.

    • When you’re facing a competent price competitor, customer service is first to go. CW won’t be around if SB continues that the way it has, and we’ll all lose.

    • Perspectives are a fascinating thing! I've found precisely the opposite to be true: Cashrewards is consistently tracking my purchases correctly, customer service are human beings and helpful.

ShopBack, on the other hand, is a potato. Tracking is becoming atrocious (This began for me well before the their recent 15% Aliexpress Singles Day campaign that was riddled with OZB complaints.

I often find their customer service often don't address the content of my request in their response - negating me, the customer, and their entire point of offering the 'customer' service in the first place!

  • +1

Would I be able to purchase something from ebay and get them to pricematch Amazon using the ebay guarantee and still be eligible for the cashback or would it be void? Thanks!

    • I am interested if this is the case too

  • +1

Is there a transaction limit for each ebay account? Thanks

    • "No Cap, No Min Spend"

  • -1

Oh just bought SSD last night with 20% off coupon. This won't combine, right?

    • Even though discount coupons are excluded, the great thing here is that cashback applies to stores that normally don’t participate in eBay promos such as Officeworks & Bunnings

So won't combine with discount coupons.

  • You are awesome tightarse. Going to buy some stuff but look at ozb first. :)

  • +3

Was going to use this but then realised the difference between 12% cashback excluding tax and a 10% coupon including tax was only 0.8% (10.8% versus 10%) so I went with the less risky coupon for an instant bonus.

    • +1

      i didn't know tax was excluded. That's a bummer.

But 10% coupons these days are for 'eligible' items only which is annoying.

What are the correct steps to track a purchase which is an Auction or Best Offer accepted?

    • Also interested in this

I emailed Cashback support, here is their reply. Clear as mud.

      How can we help?
Please advise correct steps to ensure purchase is tracked for eBay if purchase is an Auction Listing or a Best Offer accepted scenario. Thanks.

Thanks for your enquiry, I hope you're having a great day.
I recommend ensuring that cashback is activated prior to adding to card, prior to placing any offer or bid and prior to payment.
I do hope this helps, if you have any further questions please let us know.

      Sincerely,

    • Also PM'd tightarse, no reply. Probably getting hammered with all the questions at the moment.

    • The auction would need to end during the cashback upweight period, if best offer the same applies. In short you need to actually pay for an item within the period the cashback rate is increased. Steps would be

1 - Place WINNING BID for item that ends today (during the cashback upweight)
2- once you have wont the auction head to cashrewards
3- click out from cashrewards and pay for the item in the same day

Above would apply for best offer as well, best practice slogan "click out before you check out"

  • Is it valid on overseas items?

    • +1

If you go through ebay.com.au ;)

  • How do u buy from office works on ebay?

  • Maybe wait for Black Friday for a 15% CB?

  • Dammit spent $400 last night… :(

  • Hi store rep, I've got a question: can I purposely not use the provided promotion code in order to get a lower discount? Say I want item A for $500 and on the page it comes with a code which lowers it down to 480. But obviously with your cashback I get a better price. So I'll place the order via Cash Rewards but not using the code when check out. Is this feasible?

    • Not a store rep, but that’s how it should work. That is essentially the deal

    • Heya Wayne, this sounds like something that should be feasible since eBay will (gladly!) not force you to use the coupon codes they suggest on the item listing page

I'm getting this error in chrome

    • -1

      That's because you're not using a desktop browser. I believe that's an iPad/tablet screenshot?

      • +1

No its a screen shot of my desktop, it could be an issue with my browser or cashrewards.

However, I could use internet explorer. Although the shopnow button has a strike-through on both internet explorer and chrome, the link from internet explorer redirects to eBay. Does this mean its tracked?

        • +4

OK, just spoke to our tech team. Got an answer for you. As our new site is now a 'responsive website', please simply maximise the window to view the desktop version which then makes the Shop Now button available :)

    Old tightarse stikes again.

Awe man just made some big purchases!

  • Thanks OP. This CB along with Black Friday / Cyber Monday (non-coupon) deals would be great :-).

  • +1

Yo TA, how long should I wait for a confirmation email from CW?

I made a purchase last night from Groupon to make use of the 15% and haven't received any confirmation

I use a clean Firefox, zero addons, no blockers, no vpn/etc. It's also the browser I use for tracking purchases for shoback with our problems

Made 2 purchases, no coupon code applied

  • I wonder if we'll be getting anything better for black Friday

  • Will this cashback work for Overseas sellers within the Ebay Australia website?

    Thanks

    • Yes.

      • Thanks for that

  • Is this valid if I buy from private seller?

    • Yes.

  • +1

    I have multiply your items by .892 being a $100 item $90 x .88 = $79.2 + $10 GST = $89.2 .
    Being 89.2% of your item.

  • +2

Do you have to purchase within this time limit or simply bid on an item and if you are successful several days later it will still be applied? Please advise!

  • +2

This watchlist/wishlist thing is ridiculous. I was watching an item for weeks and then it was relisted last night. eBay has a bug on desktop where items sometimes don't show up as being on your watchlist, so you'll go ahead and re-add the item just in case. I did this last night and this morning upon opening ebay I saw the 12% cash back offer through the extension and immediately bought the item with cashback activated. Will I or will I not get the cashback based on an ebay bug? Unbelievably confusing. Why even is this a condition to begin with?

Didn't get any confirmation email so probably not.

    • You should as it was within 24 hours?

Cashback is ineligible if you add items to your eBay wish list and purchase or bid more than 24 hours later.

It says wish list though, where is the wish list? I only have watch list?

      • -2

Can't guarantee that as given the ebay bug will display an item as not being on your watchlist but will still be visible if you visit your watchlist either on desktop or in the app. As far as ebay is concerned there's no change. The item simply remained on your watchlist. I believe this is dependent on the type of URL you're currently on, whether it's an item ID url or item descriptive url.

Actually, the bug even happens in their app lmao.

Either way, I jumped because it was a 1900 dollar item. This watchlist condition is stupid and its wording is even stupider given ebay has a watchlist, not a wishlist.

It says wish list though, where is the wish list? I only have watch list?

Exactly. Stupid wording on CR's behalf. Probably obscurantist on purpose, who knows.

eBay doesn't expose the time and date( neither on desktop and app) you added an item to your watchlist, so you're basically relying on luck hoping you added the item within the last 24 hours.

        • I have a theory, I think they mean you can't add it and then buy it later and expect the Cashback…you have buy it today…which makes sense because the offer is only for today.

The reason I think this is because my wife does something similar with Woolies or Coles? She loads up her cart with the weekly specials, but then buys it the next few days (by that time the next week specials have come out), the last week specials still apply so long as she doesn't modify them in the cart. One of them doesn't let her do that I think, can't remember who…

          • -1

@John Kimble: Lol they just edited the OP to change wishlist to watchlist, instead ignoring everyone's complaints and questions and not responding.

No, you have it wrong. They're preventing people from buying stuff they've had sitting in their watchlist. If it's in your watchlist, then it had better have been added in the last 24 hours. Any greater than 24hrs and it won't be counted. I take it sporadic spending is what ebay wants.

People are just sidestepping this limitation by using secondary ebay accounts. Wish I'd thought of that before I spent 1900. Oh well.

            • +1

              @daitro:

Lol they just edited the OP to change wishlist to watchlist, instead ignoring everyone's complaints and questions and not responding.

Not true at all. I'm one person trying to respond to a barrage of questions both here and on PM. I only have so much time I can dedicate to this and doing my best to get through them. The issue has been responded to here. Thank you.

              • -2

@tightarse: When quizzed about this issue, you stated in one comment to another user to just make sure the item is added to one's cart after clicking through cash rewards. In another you restated the watchlist condition. Which is it? How can we know if it's less than our equal to 24 hours since an item was added to our watchlist when ebay does not expose these data (time and date added) to us users? Does this sound like a reasonable condition to you?

                • +3

@daitro: The conditions (whether you accept them or not) are provided by eBay, not Cashrewards. We have no idea how long you have items in a watch list. They are the ones that track the sale to you (via us) dependant on meeting the conditions set out by them. I can't answer question that I don't know the answers to.

And yes, separate situations warrant different responses. If you have items in a watch list longer than 24 hours, they won't qualify. If you don't then the point is mute. Hope this helps.

                • +4

@daitro: Now that I've seen the solution (from TA - so he does answer)… ;-D - I recall that it's been mentioned many times before.

                  • Remove any item you want to purchase from your shopping cart, watch list, wish list, whatever.
                  • In your case, you would then check the item has definitely been removed.
                  • Then follow the usual click-through steps to purchase.

Let's be honest here… Every time one of these deal appears, TA (and others) have to re-educate 'us all' all over again. I'm amazed he doesn't go mad and do something crazy like save and watch old episodes of the Project, or vote for the Greens.

  • hooo boyy this is really tempting and makes me want to get the one plus 7 right now but black friday is right around the corner too…

    • Same boat here… did you pull the trigger?

  • Do the automatic discounts eBay/the merchant applies for multiple quantities of the same item make this ineligible? I don't see how you can opt out, I'm guessing no?

  • Would this be technically more than shopback because CR includes taxes in cashback calculation? Can somebody confirm?

  • Will this work for best offer if accepted in time?

    • message the seller and ask him to finalize it today

      • Have done so, just double checking there’s no exclusions for best offer sales.
