  • Is this the normal version or IQ version?

    • Normal version. The IQ version is bigger and the cable is at the back of the camera.

Good Guys 10% off, so about $180. Hoping for an ebay 20% off though while it's $199

  • Why would I choose this over an amazon cheapie for $50?

    • Works with nest video doorbell, and apparently google are lowering the monitoring subscription fee to a low flat rate, instead of charging a lot per camera.

    • This does a lot more than a cheapie camera, but you do pay for it.
You'll want a subscription for this to be worth it. In 2020 it will be $9/month for all your Nest devices which makes it reasonable. Currently it's $7 per camera which makes it really expensive for multiple cameras.

The subscription gives you 30 days of event video history in the cloud and intelligent alerts. That means it won't send you an alert when the wind blows some branches around, but it'll alert you when it sees a human. The more expensive IQ cameras can recognize faces and let you know if an unfamiliar face is detected.

Do note that these cameras constantly upload to the cloud, so you'll need a good internet plan.

That's Australia out of the running….

      • How useful are they if you don't have a subscription?

        • Mmm… there are cheaper options if you don't want a subscription. All you'll be able to do is view live video and get snapshots (still photos) of movement events from the last three hours. Might be better looking for an older Arlo camera which gives 7 days free video storage (the new ones don't come with free storage).

Why did you bring it there?

  • Really good camera for what they do. Have two at the front of my house, on a shit NBN connection, work well. Video is really clear, even when zoomed in.

Can set up alert zones for notifications, has 2 way mics, all accessible from the app. Also accessible through the nest hubs we have throughout the house.

When I subscribed, there were 3 different options for number of days for the video - 30, 10, 5 - each with different pricing.

I took the 5 day subscription. First camera was $70 for 12 months, second camera was $40 for 12 months.

  • Ive been researching both this and the Ring cameras.

Was looking at the Nest hello and two Nest outdoor IQs which aren't available here in Australia for some reason. Pro would be the AI built in but hard to purchase and expensive to buy. Would Def consider the IQ but to get that from the US it's almost 1k for 2 cameras.

I pulled the plug today and ended up with a Ring Pro doorbell and 2x Ring Spotlight Cameras + 2x echo 5" displays for just under 1k. Amazon has a special atm.

    • Link plz…!!

      • Amazon. I actually cancelled my order because I'm thinking I will pay more for the Google smarts for facial recog.

        • Google's ecosystem is alot better then Amazon. I have a nest hub max, doorbell and cameras
