Credit Card Available Credit + Current Balance = Credit Limit?

Simple question. I have a CC of $3,000. The current balance is let's say 900, shouldn't the available credit be 2100 (if there are not pending transactions?)

I ask this because my amex has a balance of 900 but available credit of 300 with no pending transactions. Has anyone encountered this before?

Have you recently paid a bill? It may not have come through yet?

All bills that have been paid have been reflected already in the recent transactions. I called AMEX and they said that some pending transactions (e.g. cancelled bose transactions) are still pending but not showing in the pending list for credit card users. I find that baffling - why would they hide some pending transactions from us?

I’m not sure. You probably should have asked them when you were on the phone to them.

      • It's pending on the other side. I.e. refund processed but not final. It's already taken off your balance but not cleared in your available credit.

I have never understood these, but they always work out correct in the end.

    The amwx system is funny.
Even without pending trans, it can be funny.

If you really need credit give them a call and sometimes they flick a switch which removes the hold on the trans that is no longer there

For the record my card at present is available credit 26k, and balance is -$12k

Go figure, my limit is 25k

ahh, thanks for the reassurance because looks like we have similar issues with it not being 'balanced out' :)

yeah, usually sorts itself out as late as 5 - 7 days though

Yeah something similar has happened to me. It'll clear up in a few days like others have said.
