Any Good Offshore Websites to Buy Car Parts?

Hey guys,

I'm after some rear shock absorbers for my Ford Laser and just wondered if anyone here has any websites that ship stuff like that to Australia at a lower price.

Cheers

Shocks are heavy, you may find international shipping is expensive for these.

Basically this. The cost to freight them out here would exceed the cost of buying them in Australia.

And replacing the rear shocks on a Laser would probably almost render it an economical write off anyway.

They are about $160~$180 on ebay. Just how much cheaper do you want them, OP?? (+ and extra 10% off if you use code: PREPARE t checkout)

The laser is an older car so you would find plenty of used shocks at Ford wreckers and pick n pay spare parts places. If you want to go down that path you may be able to pick a pair cheaper than eBay prices but your mileage may vary depending on how old the shocks are and how rough the ride had been in the donor car.

    • Hi websterp

Yeah that would be OK if I were handy but if I have to pay $200+ labour it kinda makes it a bit too risky to use used parts :)

      • If you are getting someone to instal, I would seriously look at getting rid of the car, as you sound like you are not mechanical by nature and old cars are good value for home handy persons, not for taking to mechanics.

Why do you think in your case these need replacing. Ride or have they collapsed?

        • Hey mate,

Yeah just the knocking sound at the right rear when I go over bumps. Just a bit annoying to listen to constantly.

The cars in mint condition otherwise.

          • @Shane34: And has this been assessed by a mechanic? Or mechanical minded friend?

It might be something else, even the nut on the strut has come lose, or the rubber "washer" that sits between the strut and the body.

            Whats the Kms done?

            • @RockyRaccoon: Well the other side was doing it shortly after I purchased it in 2017 and a mate changed that for me.

So yeah just assuming its the same deal. It would be worth checking the rubber washer like you mentioned though.

It only has about 55,000 on it. Original owners were an elderly couple.

@Shane34: Yep it may just be something simple, 55K, shouldnt see shocks go, but then again it could be gone.

As for your mate, get them back, they only did half the job. 😀

  • Cheers guys,

I did notice the US and China had them cheaper but you're probably right about the postage.

  • I would suggest having a look at Rock Auto based in the USA, www.rockauto.com .

  • Cant ship shocks via air freight anymore. Ebay OZ place to go

    • I can get a set of shock absorbers for one of my Peugeots from the U.K. (if I order now) with an estimated delivery between Friday 24 January and Thursday 6 February, for a cost of $70.08 postage. Shocks are extra!

That seller mentions DHL, Fedex and one other international courier service they use for ‘larger items’.

        • Without reading the thread, is there any links other than word of mouth second hand info in the thread? One example doesn’t make a rule.

        • I read your link.

One person said that they couldn’t have the shocks air freighted; another person said that they had no problems.

And everything else that I read was some pretty good puns.
