        • It's hard to say being early days with my use of Reno.

I loved my Xiaomi, but have had issues with 3 out of 4 models I have owned. The 9T lastest update is just buggy and many online are commenting on this. I cannot even use the phone to connect to the university WIFI. Techs at uni spent an hour on it today and even after a factor reset, they couldn't resolve it. I find also the camera isn't great with the 9T. The camera on the Xiaomi 8 Lite was way better (wish I kept it). I liked that the Xiaomi was heavier (Quality feeling) and I like that when it worked, it was a great phone (minus camera). I also noticed with the Xiaomi having issues with google maps in Germany (might just be germany itself). I paid $599 for the Xiaomi and $343 for the Reno. So keep that in mind.

I will miss my Xiaomi, but the UI does seem clearer. I think I just got so use to Xiaomis UI, that I am not keen on the change. The colors the Oppo uses are alot better and make it look nicer.

Really finding it hard to comment either way. Xiaomi looks nice to me, but also seems to be in a different league, but what is the use of a phone that has bugs in the software.

Sorry I can't be much help. Will take awhile for me to get use to the Oppo and then be clearly to judge. At the moment, I am regretting buying the Oppo as I should have went back to an mi 8 lite (which i liked better than the oppo), but I'm sure the oppo will grow on me in time

@Froot Loops: do you have warranty on the xiaomi i mean can you swap it out or is it not worth it since youve done it a few times

            • @AussieMark: I have a warranty with Xiaomi Australia. I decided to return it for a refund as I only have 20 days of paypal protection left and don't trust their warranty beyond this. Just going to return and move on. Might give them a chance in the future, but they need to fix the bugs out before deploying updates

              • @Froot Loops: if it helps xiaomi 10 just launched this week - sold out in a few minutes tho hehe (first batch).

Their factory is in wuhan so they are having some stock problems

  • How's the camera on this? Can someone shed some light.
Looking to replace the Mrs smashed S8.

    • +1

      Is that grey import tho

    • +2

Grey import and 64GB (Toby) v 128GB (JB).
      The Toby 128GB is $429.

  • +1

would this be an upgrade to the Google pixel 2xl? if I mostly care about the camera quality?

    • +4

Pixel 2XL still has one of the best cameras I wouldn't even compare to any Xiaomi phones

    • +1

I wouldn't be switching to the 9T if the camera is what you care most about.

    • +2

No it wouldn't be. The pixel 2 cameras are still among the best this is more mid range

    • thanks guys

    • Thanking you, saved me some disappointment. Coming up to the end of the Telstra 2XL deal and mine has seen better days. Good camera with Android 10 is my min req's. Thinking the OnePlus 7T / Pro and getting a better camera app is the go.

      • Same here, don't think we'll ever get a deal as good as that again

  • How come they don't sell the pro version of this model here?

  • Note: It has a popup selfie front camera..

    • Is that good or bad for you

      • mixed reviews, they claim I think for 200,000 pops, but mostly reviews are negative for mechanical components. :)

        • jerryrigeverything thought it looked very good.

        • +4

Honestly I like the pop up camera as opposed to pinhole camera for the extra screen real estate. I don't use selfie cams so it's nice to not waste space

    • +1

      It's an awesome party trick.

      • +1

I prefer the ping pong one

        • +3

thats the southeast asia only version of the phone.

      • It's a grower.

  • Wireless charge?

    • +5

Unfortunately this doesn't have wireless charging

  • +1

Solid price. If only they had the pro at whatever price level above this with a similar discount, I'd grab a second for sure. Best bang for buck phone out there.

    Cameras are great too

  • +1

If it weren't for the pop-up camera I'd jump on this… But I'm a rugged case person and also just don't trust pop up motors just yet

    • Same. That thing puts me off.

    • How often do you use the selfie camera?

I mean I agree about the pop up being a risk but I also only use the selfie camera on rare occasions, (so thinking its a risk worth taking).

      • +10

Has a safety feature where it senses drops and slides back in as well.
As a non-selfie taker, I LOVE that I don't have a bezel, punch-hole or notch to house essentially useless hardware.

        • Plus for those, all technology is watching me, people, it gives some piece of mind.

Seriously though, I'm typing this on Mi 9T pro and I absolutely love it. Pretty much the highest screen real-estate on a non curved phone (a bonus for me) and I use swipe gestures in miui so that also adds about 1 cm at the bottom.

    • The one on my Oneplus 7 Pro has been fantastic. Zero issues. Which seems to be the case with all users, I'm yet to see a report of the camera mechanism causing any problems. Maybe it has and Oneplus has just warranted it quickly and quietly, but nothing on Reddit about it.

      • Yeah you guys are probably right. I've been using OtterBox cases for the last 6 years so it scares me to go back to a less durable phone with moving parts

        • The one thing to note with popup is that unless you have an ultra thin case, like tpu, or an appropriate cutout, some of the visibility of the front camera can be blocked. I had that happen with a silicon case I ordered before I returned it for a tpu one.

          • @Lifeinflow: I don't have this problem on my SUPCASE
            https://padenaco.ir/products/for-xiaomi-mi-9t-case-mi-9t-pro…
It does have a small cutout just in front of the selfiecam though per photos in the link.

            • @ESEMCE: Looks like quite a nice case! I'm actually quite happy with the Nillkin branded tpu one I switched to. Doesn't give much protection from falls but I never really drop my phone. Does add grippiness and scratch resistance

              • +1

@Lifeinflow: Yeah, had it for a couple of months now and been happy with it.
Polycarbonate clear backing is holding up quite well. a couple of small scratches, but nothing major.

My sole gripe would be that there's not enough delineation between the Power, and Volume buttons. would prefer some indents so they're easier to find.
There is some texturing but I'm not that smart/sensitive!

    • this video is for a different phone (Zenfone 6) but it's pop up camera is abused and still stands strong:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPv9XPHMYfg

Might give you some faith in pop up cameras.

  • This or Huawei Nova 5T?

    • +1

Nova 5T will be faster (at least CPU-wise) and more compact, but the Mi 9T has a better screen (5T is IPS w/ Holepunch, 9T is notchless & AMOLED).

If you can drop by a JB and try them out, they feel very different in the hand and consider your Android skin preference.

      • Great! Thanks mate.

  • Is this phone dual SIM? No mention on JB site?

    • +1

      yes

      • Dual Sim and sd?

        • +2

          No SD capability.

  • Thanks OP, 28 degrees price claim submitted.

FYI Xioami is done with this phone and has stopped selling due to Mi 10 range starting.

  • +5

Got the pro version of this a couple months ago. Only difference is the CPU and 4k video recording iirc.

Beautiful screen (prefer the no notch) and a long battery life. The 9T features rival that of flagship 1k+ phones.

    • From what I've been told, the pro version also has laser autofocus, which makes a massive difference when you use the video camera. My Mi9T always bugs out on focus in medium light action videos.

    • 4K 60fps specifically. 9T does 4k 30fps.

  • This or the Realme 5 pro?

    • +1

this probably, nfc on xiaomi and better screen (i like the no notch so thats my opinion) and better camera.

      • Thanks, bought one for the wife. Cheap enough as she breaks them enough.

        • also software wise xiaomi throw out updates quite often, my friend owns the realme 5 pro and its fine but xiaomi updates more often too especially the higher end phones.

  • By review this is a very solid quality phone and price is good at JB

  • +1

Thanks - Ordered one. I have been in the market for the pro model and had one ordered for $600 but it fell through due to the supply issues (Chinese NY and Coronaviruus). At $400 and local stock this is a bargain.

    • +1

Plus they going to stop production of K20 Pro soon(China version only).

  • +3

Have had this phone for 6 months (got it for $440) and it's a really good flagship killer - the 730 cpu is really fast hard to tell its not an 845, plenty of ram, great screen, battery can almost last 2 days with moderate use. Camera is great for the price but dont expect pixel level. As per some comments above may be being retired by xiaomi but i think its still a great pickup.

  • This one or Note 8 Pro?

    • 9T all the way. The 9T has an AMOLED notch-less display, Snapdragon CPU, better Sony camera & is $100 cheaper at JB.

      • +1

Well I just place an order with ALiexpress yesterday, $312 delivered..
        Hasn't been shipped yet though.

Can someone please suggest why this is not a better choice? Apart from the shipping time obviously.
    Thanks

    • +2

      Its $150 more…

    • It's USD.

    • You're in US $ - I come up with AU$566.71 including shipping

    • +1

I think Gearbest charges GST so it may ended up $600 plus. I been tracking the 9T pro price on Ebay since new year it has gone up by about 10%. So this is is good buy.

  • +1

Really want the Pro 8 GB ram version but this is such a damn good price. Decisions, decisions …

  • Thanks OP. Got one for dad. A good upgrade - big screen and storage for his simple needs (photos, videos, calls, messaging). None in my area so $4.99 delivery. Cheaper than fuel right now…

    • now I just need a dad

      • +1

i can call you daddy ;) buy one for yourself

      • Daddy issues?

        • ozb buying issues

  • Why is this phone not on dxo mark ;(

    • +3

The K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro) review is there. It uses the IMX586 instead of the IMX582 in the 9T (they are identical in terms of the picture quality & the only difference between these two sensors is that IMX582 can only record videos in 4k 30fps while IMX586 can record videos in 4k 60fp). So the camera review for the K20 Pro can be taken to be the camera review for the 9T.

  • This a solid upgrade from a Mate 10?

  • Thinking of upgrading from the zenfone 5… feels like this could be a good move…

  • Will it runs a lot smoother than LG G6, a bit struggle with Android 9 on my G6

    • just went to android 10 and it's very smooth

  • Xiaomi Mi 10 launching on February 13. See what bomb they drop this time.

    • Looks like they've reverted back to hole punch front camera and now there's 4 cameras at the back?? And it's also a curved screen now like the oneplus flagships

  • anyone tried doing a pricematch at OW?

    • I don't think they'll beat it since it says "Awaiting stock" on JB's webpage.

  • This or v30

    • I'd get this if I hadn't bought the v30+. It is still a great phone though.
This has the the bonus of a telephoto camera, close to bezelless screen. Looks like you might lose wireless charging .

  • I bought the realme xt from jb a couple of month ago for 449 and it's a Monster, love it

    • +1

Would you rate it higher than this phone?

      • -3

Yeah I would definitely say it's better then this one ,quad camera 64mp that takes unreal pictures(compared to 48) , real good battery life and charge extremely fast, also have the inbuilt selfie camera not that pop up selfie camera that looks like it will break easy , also as 8gb ram (compared to 6gb), and the screen is crisp with the Super AMOLED screen
