    300w panels is outdated specs, so the $8500 price tag is on the high side, especially when prime roof face being a scarcity nowadays . I could've gotten cream of the crop lg neon 330w for that price 2 years ago.

    • what's the OzBargain equivalent of Bose QCv2 in terms if solar installation around Victoria?
      I am shopping around at the moment but I don't see a lot of love going into this deal here.

    • You get 22 panels. This is better than fewer panels but higher watts, provided you can fit them on your roof.

      Let's say an alternative is 15 panels at 440w = 6.6kw.

      Each panel is only going to generate 440w at maximum output, and you're not always going to get maximum output. I would be surprised if you could reach 440W outside of the best of conditions. Let's say it's not that great a day and the most you're getting is is 220w. With 22 panels that is 4840W which is just under what your inverter can handle. With your 15 higher capacity panel, you're only getting 3300W.

      Higher capacity is only better if you don't have a lot of space, or you intend to add more later (which will be a lot more expensive than adding them now). If the total watts is the same, then more panels is always going to do more work than fewer but more efficient panels. If you can't reach your maximum output on the day, you're not getting everything you can out of the panels. But a system with a smaller output but more panels is always getting its potential unless it's a really bad day, but it would still be generating more than the 440w system.

      • Where do you pull that magical number to support your hypothesis? If conditions only allow 440w panel to generate 50% of its output then it would expected that those 330w panel would only generate a similar proportion. Otherwise manufacturers won't be bother investing millions just to increase panel efficiency for just a couple of percent over decades.
        also your knowledge of inverter capacity and panel oversize is just plaint wrong, a 5kw inverter will readily accept 3kw,5kw or even 10kw of output from panels but it will limit output to its max capacity with no long term implications

        • There's a good reason why it's custom to oversize your panels… your panels are not expected to produce full power at all times.

          My panels are 350W.

          I don't know where you live, but I've rarely ever seen 350W generated on any of my panels.

          That is exactly what I said. You can hit 6.6kw, but you're not going to get 6.6kw of power. You're limited to 5kW.

          • @lostn: everyone agrees that panel never reach stated capacity, but does not translate to spreading same capicity over the larger roof area is a better option, same analogy apply to car fuel efficiency, hardly anyone get the same fuel efficiency advertised by car manufacturer but it's widely accepted that a 7l/100km rav4 will be more efficient than a kluger in almost all circumstances

        • it should be noted that nameplate rating of solar panels is done under test conditions so you are able to compare different panels. those test conditions are 25degrees celsius panel temperature which equates to 0 degrees ambient, an irradiance of 1000 W/m2 and an airmass of some sort. if you were able to get close to those conditions you will see the output of your panel as per the rating. As it is hotter in Australia… obviously.. you panel "derates" as per the temperature coefficient which can also be found on the datasheet, apart from that tilt and orientation of the panel play a big role too, but this goes without saying I guess.

    ABN lookup says Eko Energy has been in business feb 2019, then various other names going back to variations of cherry in 2013. Then 5 seperate entered in June 2017. And with a website ending in .co I’d be very suspicious.
