RM Williams Boots, All Styles $476 (Was $495) + Free Shipping @ Allingtons

41

Got a text from Allingtons, they have a "Footwear Festival" (the marketing department worked overtime to get this name) with between 10-30% off. Ends 22 March 2020. First thing I looked at was the R.M.s

R.M. Williams Mens Stockyard Boots from $240.

  • For such discount… Prefer not buying to save the RRP

haha yes they are pricey but you've clearly never worn a pair… Most comfortable boots. I've worn mine 5 days a week for 5 years and they are still in excellent condition and plenty of life left. Haven't bought another pair of work shoes in that time, I'd say worth the investment.

Yep - and I don't earn enough money to buy inferior quality shoes. Large upfront cost - but you are rewarded with years of ownership.

I used to go through a pair of boots every year. Since purchasing my RM's, I haven't bought a new pair in eight years.

People say these things are comfortable, but I have tried on a few pairs in shops and a specific pair when a friend was singing their praises. In all cases, I've felt that I was wearing a small plank strapped to my foot - hard, heavy, inflexible sole and virtually no impact absorbance. The only plus side was not needing to tie shoelaces.

I go through a pair of leather semi-formal work shoes every year or so, but I also only pay $40 for a pair and they're light and soft enough that I can comfortably jog in them.

These last for 10 years at least.

So how narcissistic do you have to be to spend $1000 in ten years on regular shoes?

    • +2

There are people who pay more for one item of "fast fashion" clothing.

Also, the other day, I heard from a colleague that one of their friends paid 5 figures for a wedding dress wtf.

450-500aud for a good quality, long-lasting pair of shoes that can be worn on various occasions (i.e. formal and casual) represents value for money in my opinion.

Having said that, no upvote from me only because you can get it cheaper elsewhere (nungar).

    • Lol and you call yourself a bargainist.

You haven't a clue about value for money.

Have fun contributing to landfill while others are still on their first pair of RMs

      • -1

I'm sure you bought these because you didn't want to contribute to landfill. How thoughtful of you.

        • Why the negativity? We are free to buy based on whatever beliefs/principles we may have.

Same as people buying a $20k Rolex to tell the time when a $10 aliexpress digital watch does the same thing.

    $19 off $500?

Bargains just ain't what they used to be :-)

  • Last time I checked, $19 was not 10% of $495…

    • +1

It's an error by the poster. Was $595.

  • I do really want a pair, but $500 is soo much for some boots, give me a half price sale and ill bite, but that just doesnt happen

Maybe look at a pair of Meermins then. I believe they’re closer to $300 and quite a popular brand for around this price and certainly better than the Aquila’s etc. Not sure how long you’ll be waiting with the international shipping delays atm though. Fits true to size (UK). I’d be getting sized up at a RMs store if you don’t know your proper size as I’ve found most quality shoe brands are TTS.

      • yeah i have got my size ready to roll for the RM's

A few years out of my $60 jobs makes the leap a little too large

For those able to make a trip to Toowoomba… there is usually an annual sale in May. They have a large regional RM Williams outlet store with HUGE discounts, last year there were floor to ceiling Rickaby's for $119 and Comfort Craftsmen for $299. Jeans, shirts Jumpers for less than $50. Obviously not something everyone can get to, but worth a mention.

      • Ill have a google, do you know if that store has a mailing list around that sale, im only about an hour away so could do that

        • +1

Just had a quick search, Yeah I've received an email for the last two years. 8 Carrington Road Toowoomba store. Usually starts the 9/10th through to the 19/20th May, been happening for many years now. So I'd say likely similar again this year

          • @T-BARHQ: Ive signed up for their marketing spam and FB page, see how it goes thanks

Bought three pairs of 100$ work shoes, different style/colours. . Still running strong after four years. Also get to change based on what I wear. I personally can't justify spending that much on one style so to speak.

Comfort level is subjective I guess. I don't like one of the three pairs but other two I can wear all day and still be fine.

Not negging but just stating a different point of view.

    • +3

I don't agree but here's a plus vote for being able to state a different opinion without insulting others :)

No deal for mine, cheaper at Nunga Traders $445 or $460 delivered http://www.nungar.com.au/catalog/index.php/cPath/48?osCsid=q….

Pretty sure they're $499 everyday at Allingtons, disingenuous use of RRP to inflate discount.

Asked Allingtons to price match and they played the whole 'but they're not in SA line (won't price match interstate/web)). Hopefully they're another retailer who'll die due to their own stupidity.

    • +1

Also borderline illegal to use RRP to inflate discount, if you can show that the price is usually at $500 for a consistent amount of time, then the RRP is $500, not $595

  • Is a flannel check shirt the go to ensemble for this stylish footwear?
