    • Only 2 easy ways to stop the credit card charges : expiry or cancellation .
But saying that I well and truly got my money worth .

  • I was on a bender with eBay last year and paid $49 for the service with none of these kickbacks, so I am upset to see it is now basically free as they are admitting the value of it is now really low. Boooo eBay.

  • Cancelled trail and still got charged. Decided to pay after all the pleas for understanding and refund;

'Your account is suspended due to non-payment and all of your current listings (including any Good ‘Till Cancelled listings) have been removed and you can no longer buy or list new items on eBay. To avoid further collection activity, such as possible referral to collection agency, you must pay the amount you owe immediately.'

I am worried about debt collectors as they are the worst lot to deal with.

  • +1

Thanks for the post - reminded me to cancel my 1 year subscription!

  • I signed up last time this deal was on and I'm pretty happy because they sent me 2 $50 gift cards (since they took so long and I kept complaining).

  • I took the plunge and at the end of the payment was advised of a $50 Ebay card being emailed to me .

  • Could I ask someone to please share a link to the current terms and conditions URL? Ebay customer service is saying there is a) no promotion current, and b) it's only for new (not rejoining) members. Screenshots of the banners in the thread (and my own screenshot last night) aren't enough for them

  • Still haven't received my gift card after 2 days. Talked to chat and they said the deal was supposed to end on 13 March. Gonna be a long tooth pulling session with ebay support.

  • +1

    Has the deal expired?

  • Is this for new members only?

  • Had a chat with eBay rep and was told it could take up to 19 business days for the coupon to be emailed to you.

  • +2

I chased up and Phillip at ebay support (online chat) confirmed it could take up to 19 days.
I have to wait until April… Maybe they are hoping we forget…

    • I've been waiting since December and they keep on with the same bullsh1t excuses about "only marketing can fix it", "marketing are aware of the problem" and "marketing will get back to you within the week - or we can fix this right now by giving you a $50 one time use, no change given, non-stackable code instead of the gift card we promised when you signed up and we took your money".

P1ssweak, even by plummeting ebay standards…

  • 19 business days passed but haven't got anything from eBay.

    • I gave up after waiting four months.

They refunded me, but my Ebay plus account is still active. Though I'm using it much less on principle.

It really is a poor substitute for Amazon Prime and their self-confessed inability to deliver on the sign up promise of so many, is frankly illegal.

Vote with your pockets, I say…

Anyone who is considering this, look at previous posts and their success rates.
      This is still valid

      • +24

Yep, I didn't see that thread but I'm another victim of not receiving the voucher after signing up. Don't bother with ebay plus. It's barely worth it. It would be if you got your voucher.

        • +19

Yeah I’ve hardly used my eBay plus membership, most items on eBay have free shipping anyways. I’m paid until July but I probably won’t renew unless there’s a huge discount.

I’ve used my Amazon Prime membership for free delivery more in a couple of weeks than close to a year with EBay Plus.

Amazon Prime also comes with Prime Video, their Netflix like streaming service.

          Amazon is much better value.

          • @emoticon: Also twitch prime and the free games associated with that. Better valued service hands down.

          • +1

@emoticon: This. I did 12mo of eBay plus, didn’t use it once - it didn’t apply on the handful of things I bought. Signed up for Prime instead of renewing w/ eBay. We’ve been using Prime Video pretty frequently and received free Prime shipping at least 6x already. Much better value IMO.

      • +3

I eventually got it, but it took weeks of chasing them up.

      • I got my voucher. was immediately after a purchase. kinda suspicious

    • +13

Received this promo more than 5 times. Delete straight away. Amazon all the way.

      • +12

Ebay is still good for things that are on ebay but not on Amazon. Or things that are cheaper on ebay.

    • +7

Eligible customers need to have a "relevant purchase history".

      What praytel is that?

      • +19

Almost as obscure as their “eligible items” discounts.

      • +1

Pretty sure it is one purchase successfully paid for! YMMV

      • +1

        Seems to be one purchase.
I have 3 accounts. One years and years worth of buying, one with none and one that had (at the time) 1 purchase.
Both my old account and the 1 purchase account got the deal.

        • Did you fork out $147 all at once for all three accounts. Hope for you that you received $150 worth of Gift Cards.

          • @ozhunter68: no I just bought it on two accounts.

I got two lots of $50 gift cards, which both went to items Over $50 that I'd been looking at/saving towards for a month.

Hmm, my subscription ends next week. I wonder if I’ll be eligible for this? It kinda sounds like it’s only for new subscribers.

@ozhunter68: Expired in Feb. I was offered a $30 credit to stay at the point of cancellation. Been offered a $50 credit twice since.

            • @rickb: Thanks for your prompt, detailed and clear response :-)

Might cancel mine then when up for re-newel later this year.

            • +2

@rickb: Cheers for that. I just went to cancel mine to see what would happen and they also offered $30 credit. $50/year is not worth it.

              • @scruffypuppy: If you want to cancel few months before plan expires, do you lose that time?

    • Can you pay with a Groupon voucher?

      • I would say probably no, clicking on Get Deal takes you directly to Ebays website.

Thanks for reminding me to cancel mine. lol

    • +28

      I'm ebay plus member.

I have to say, ebayplus service is totally disaster.

I have a case open with ebay in last Nov, and after I spent 4+ hours with them, they promised to refund me in Dec. And until Jan I didn't receive the refund, they told me there is a system delay so ask I to wait… Then I forget. I just remember that in this month and then I contacted them again, then ebay told me due to I didn't contact them in a few month, they won't process my refund any more….

I asked them to escalate and then a manager told me that she knows the issue and she promised I will get the refund, but "she is busy and she will write me an email tomorrow when everything is sorted."

Then I wait, wait, 3 days passed, no email….Then I contacted ebay, they escalated again, then they said a new case manager will call me in 24 hours, and then, 3 days passed, nothing happen….

      • +4

Should have spoken with PayPal then.

You've got 30 days with eBay.

      • +3

I had a similar situation to this. Had an offer for 1 dollar eBay plus, yet, was charged full. I had to go back and forth for around 4 months to get a refund from them. I did with chats and calls, still, no luck. Finally, raised the issue to PayPal. It was never responded, thus, automatically refunded.

    • +7

And spend that $50 on their jacked up prices. EBay…. why are you doing what you are doing. It’s sad and needs to stop.

    • +12

I buy heaps of stuff from ebay and love it but ebay plus is rubbish. Ebay spent years telling sellers to offer "free" postage even though we all know postage isn't free and the end result is many sellers already offer free postage removing a benefit of Plus. Amazon Prime is way better.

      • +5

Ebay spent years telling sellers to offer "free" postage

You mean forcing sellers to offer free postage.

First they penalised listings that didn't offer it, then they charged final value fees on the postage amount so there was basically no reason not to include it as a seperate price.

    • +4

have ebay plus and i see next to no benefit, not even sure ive used any offer.
The offers are often better elsewhere

      • eBay Plus is mainly an insurance for when things goes wrong or when you want to return something, not worth it for $49/ year, but free, why not

    • +12

I bought ebay plus with this offer directly from ebay and I got charged an international transaction fee. The bastards keep refusing that it's their fault.

      • No PayPal?

      • I got charged an international transaction fee

        By who?

    • +5

eBay plus is such a ridiculous rort.
If you want to sell something on there, eBays VERY strong "recommendation" is that you must offer free postage if you want to stand any chance of attracting customers (they literally punish you if you dont offer free postage and same day or next day handling time), but at the same time offers this paid subscription service for buyers to essentially get your postage for free, which it already is on most items, BECAUSE IT"S WHAT THEY TELL THE SELLERS TO DO!
I tell ya, between fleabay, scumtree and c**tbook marketplace, it's slim pickins out here for a good place to buy and sell

      • Marketplace isn't too bad, got heaps of free stuff from there. People sometimes under price stuff and it gets sold within two hours.

        • -1

Not my experience at all, full of lying, cheapskate, lowballing, timewasting idiots.
The amount of times i get sent that default message (too lazy to write your own message? ffs) "Hi i was wondering if this is still available?" and then never hear from them again, it's a completely (profanity) pointless question to ask anyway, the seller WILL tell you when you send them a message if it is not available any more…

          • -1

            @lordezekiel:

So what message do you send instead?

          • @lordezekiel: That was a UI issue. The "Is this available" button seemed like it did the same as the "send message" text. I used it for a while before someone pointed out the send message button.

      • +3

I wouldn't consider those AirPods and co sales as a deal. Small quantity, short time - gets sold out without 3 seconds.

      • +5

Cool story bro, most of us don't live on our computers 24/7 waiting to pounce on super limited deals like those airpods/switchs/ssds/etc

    • +3

eBay plus is a bit strange, most sellers offer free post anyway and the eBay plus sales are pretty underwhelming. Unless you buy regularly it’s not really worth it, not to mention all the problems people seem to have cancelling it.

    • +13

A $50 gift card coupon was offered to me in the ebay app to sign up for ebay plus so I signed up and took screenshots for each step. After about two months, I still hadn't received the gift card and contacted ebay. They told me that I wasn't eligible for the gift card and it was a mistake. I sent the all the screenshots that I had taken and I was told that I would receive the gift card, but I would have to wait for it to be approved.

About a month later I contacted them again and was told to still wait. I then contacted them again only to be told that all the previous times I had contacted them, I had been told incorrect information and it was a mistake. I complained until I got an operator that said that he could only give me a voucher that had a 30 day expiry instead of a gift card. I stayed online with the operator until I received and verified the voucher.

Be careful when ebay promises you things like this. I have made some small savings with ebay plus. but it wasn't worth all the hassle. Mine wasn't through groupon, but it seems that buying through a third party could be just one more reason that they could claim it was a mistake.

If you do buy this - take screenshots and be prepared for a fight if you don't get the gift card.

      • Same story here and was offered the voucher several times but I rejected and insisted on the gift card. It got to a point where I had to demand a refund which they went ahead with but I had paid with US$ credit card so I lost like $3 after all those months waiting

    • +8

Too much of a hassle dealing with eBay staff to honour deal, and if they do honour it, it’s pointless because you will never use it.

    • +3

Plus vote for the post.. for reminding me to cancel auto-renewal.

In the last 2 years, jacked sales and the rise of aliexpress dropshippers pretending to be a store in Chullora NSW or Darwin NT. Chinese sellers that have 'purchased' ebay accounts with good rating to start their stores…

The last Genuine bargain I ever got was the unannounced 15% off sitewide eofy sale on 30/06/2017 that worked on a laptop I purchased from the USA:
      https://ibb.co/QvXs4g8

Amazon Prime + Prime video with USA catalogue is where its at for $59p/a

      • How are you accessing the USA catalogue?

    • +6

Dealing with eBay is a joke. After 20 years on their platform, while a member of eBay plus, I had a fairly small account issue to deal with support for that ended up going around in circles with staff. Went on for months, simple thing that should have been an easy fix. In the end, left the platform entirely, not going back. Do my best to actively encourage others to avoid it.

    • +3

Thanks for the reminder to cancel. Easy to do it. I was offered a $30 gift card to keep it going (paid after renewal). Cancelled.

For those wondering, your membership is still usable until the 12 months comes up.

      • +3

Thank you! I was going to wait until closer to renewal to cancel.

But just cancelled since it’s still usable.

    • +1

Got heaps of promo item like $1 deal so I think I got what I paid for but in general, ebay should spend money on what people shalling out for years. Some consistency and customer service. Rather than arbitrary and obscured promo code deals again and again.

    • +5

Can't believe they're still trying to push eBay plus. The value you get out of it is garbage.

Not to mention the dodgy customer support and plan signup bonuses. They went the opposite way from Prime.

    • +1

Thanks OP. I forgot I had ebay plus. Your post prompted me to check when it renews and to cancel it before it does.

    • OzWhinge. Don't buy it if it's crap. Ez

    • Note: Just received the $50 eBay gift card. It cannot be used to purchase gift card e.g. Woolie gift card items. I don't think this is specified in the eBay Plus promotion T&C

    • +1

I'm gonna neg sorry. 2 reasons, as a lot of other people have said there is very little value in eBay plus. But I also have a serious issue with Groupon. Having purchased overseas accommodation from Groupon which I had booked for July, that is obviously not going to happen anymore. I have been trying to seek a refund for the groupon and they refuse to provide any compensation. I have contacted the hotel directly who have no problem with me being refunded and have forwarded their emails too Groupon. The hotel has also tried to email Groupon with no response. A lot of other people have been getting the same treatment: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/groupon

    • The eBay giftcards are $5 per month vouchers that can only be used if your purchase meets certain conditions, such as min purchase amount and I think from a plus seller. Bloody useless.

      • That is incorrect. The $50 voucher can be all used, or in part in one or more transactions. I used mine to purchase something for $25, and then used the remaining $25 in a later transaction. I also had the choice to use it or not at the time, as the remaining balance get’s saved onto your account. I hope this clarifies your understanding of the $50 voucher.

        • +1

In that case I never got a voucher. Bloody hopeless.

        • If you receive it…

My giftcard never arrived and months of emailing waiting for a fix never eventuated. They did offer a one time discount code once they confirmed I had not received my virtual giftcard, but it was not stackable with discount codes and was only usable on a single transaction.

I did receive the $5 off $50 monthly spend code in my inbox, but it's obviously no match for any decent 10% promo for smaller purchases or anything that doesn't cap at $5 off bigger purchases.

    • eBay Plus isn't a good deal at any price, even free.

    • +2

I'm going to go against the grain here. I've saved a fair bit having eBay plus using their free shipping for myself and my mates - particularly on booze or other bulky items. I research pricing pretty hard too. I also liked amazon prime while I had it for the same reason but didn't renew it as if you spend over 49 bucks you get the free shipping stuff anyway I think ? Can't remember the reason.

I don't at all think eBay plus is some amazing fantastic thing you must have - but for me it's been worth it to save a couple of bucks.

Note : There has not been too many examples in the last 12 months of ebay plus only deals that were actually any good, in fact that side of it in my opinion is turd.

    • +1

There are just too many restrictions on ebay plus to make it worth it

      Pass thanks

    • +1

People are negging the OP because they don’t like eBay and/or eBay plus. However, the offer is still considered a valid bargain as it does allow you to get some additional service plus $1 for free (as long as you expect to spend $50 on eBay at some point in the future. It’s still a fair bargain.
I have used this offer in the past, and I found it very useful. Used half of it to purchase a non eBay plus item, and had the other half saved in my account to use whenever I want.
Yes, just because an item is considered “eBay Plus“ doesn’t mean it is the best value. However all self respecting ozbargainers will do their research and discover the best bargain. Sometimes it does happen to be an eBay Plus item, and then you can purchase these with the peace of mind of free returns and free shipping. Sure, eBay is not always ideal, but it does fit a niche and give access to items that we would otherwise struggle to locate online.

      • I assume you mean negging "the deal."

    • I got scammed

    • Never got it the last time

    • Yep it's a neg

    • Never got the voucher.

  • Avoid this at all costs, currently trying to get out of a subscription. Absolute nightmare.

  • This ebay plus really needs some work or its going to be another shipster!

As people have already said, everyone already gets discounts, most postage is free anyway and there are really very few deals or benefits for having wasted paid $50.

Mine got off to a real bad start in that I paid an extra $50 to get an extra $50 off a graphics card which never arrived and spent the next 8 weeks chasing my refund. Being an Ebay plus member was of no use to get any sort of priority in getting my graphics card money back.

  • Took four months to get a refund after they admitted a major marketing snafu by failing to register and send out the promised Ebay giftcards last year.

Big neg for ebay and for their vapourwear incentives to sign up for the nothing Ebay plus offering…
