How Do I Get a 'Passport' Photo Printed out Cheap?

I dont want to pay $20 if I can make a passport style picture with an app (the photo is for another country's police clearance application) because its too expensive and nobody wants to follow the weird rule of a red background.

So I am forced to make a photo myself.

Now I need to print it out and I dont know where to do it.

I went to Officeworks and they said they dont do it.
I went to Kmart and the photo stations are closed. They have the Snapfish app, but I cant find any passport size option (40mmx60mm). I asked the support person at kmart and she was like "yeah use the kodak moments category, its in there". There isnt any. Kodak Moments has its own app, with a Kmart printer, but even that doesnt have the passport style photo option.

Other options are Auspost and BigW. Dont know if they will print custom photos.

Help.

  • I haven't done this but off the top of my head I'd suggest just making a collage with another app. Then use one of those standard BigW/Kmart/Officeworks printers. You may be closer to size requirements once you cut it out?

  • HN?

    • +1, I've successfully used this or a very similar site on my phone for Aus and foreign ID photos. Just make sure you use a relatively good quality phone/camera (get someone to take it and don't use selfie mode), don't have any beautifying filters turned on, decent lighting and fulfill the posing requirements.

      • I have used this and a few others and got them printed at harvery norman for 20 cents. Passport was approved. Just follow the photo positioning guidelines and you’ll be fine.

I just printed mine at Big W and cut it out. Calculated what % of the shot 40x60mm would be on the 4x6" photos and made it that size in MS Paint first.

  • Officeworks, select collage, choose photos, print.

    • collage not there on the app. cant do it anymore instore via the kiosk

Is it for Indonesia? My photographer in India had a look as his passport requirement sheet, slid the red curtain in place and took the photos. Cost was like 1 AUD for 4 photos.

Can you take a large sheet with you?

    • Yep indonesia, already have a picture ready thanks to mspaint hehe

create and print for 10 cents at anywhere

    • creating easy part

printing is the hard part now

      • Just use the template and print off 8 off them on a postcard sized print. I did mine at OW and it cost 8c.

  • Recently did my passport photos. I recommend the following:
    1. Take photo on phone with decent natural light and white background.
    2. Download and use a free trial version of the Photoshop app to clean and lighten photos, such as backgrounds and shadows,
    3. https://www.idphoto4you.com/ - go with 6x4 size as it’s easy when you go to print them out.
    4. Go to a photoshop that will print on glossy paper. I found my passport photos from officeworks rejected as they were on matt. Probs find a photo shop which gives some paper options and go with glossy.

    • which photoshop though.

i have created a word file with 10x pictures of 40mm(W)x60mm(H) dimensions, no idea how to push that through HN, OW or kmart though as they dont accept documents as photos

      • What did you end up doing? Same predicament

        • since then have managed to use kmart, HN and OW as print kiosks. sent the word document and got it printed. dont know what the issue was lol.

          • @kehuehue: Do you realise you’ve wasted a lot more than $20 of your time doing this?

            • @Icecold5000: not really, had to print photos more than once i reckon ive saved more

on top of that, i can take multiple shots for the desired result (without annoying anyone)

              • @kehuehue: Yes rellly lol. I be asking myself Nth what’s question of why I don’t value my time properly.

  • Thanks Op and others for comments, in a similar position and this post helped me save $$
