Belong sim with broadband credit

A fortnight ago I signed up for both Belong Broadband and Belong mobile service. The broadband service was new and the mobile service was a transfer from Optus an d I ported my number across. My problem is that I inserted a Belong sim Inalready had after I signed up for the NBN Broadband. This was a mistake due to ignorance. Now I can’t use the $80 credit that came on a SIM card with my Belong modem. There is apparently no way that I can change one Belong SIM card for another. Please help if you know a way that would not be too hard for woman of 79.

    • I'm truly impressed! Good on you.

  • Only way is to port out and port in again. not sure where that ranks in difficulty since you ported in before.

Sorry, I can't really understand what you have and what you've done.

You seem to have a Belong mobile phone sim. You also seem to have a modem that came with a Belong sim. You also talk about NBN. And I think you're saying that you also have a different Belong sim that you inserted into something before you signed up for the NBN. And at least one of these sims has $80 credit that you apparently can't use because you (I think) first inserted a different sim into a phone or a modem (or maybe something else).

Is your problem with the NBN? I'm guessing not, because I just checked the Belong web site and found that they are giving out a sim with $80 credit with NBN signups.

So, that suggests to me that your problem is with a mobile service.

Just putting a sim into a phone won't stop you putting any other sim into a phone, so I'm still not sure I see what the problem is.

I'm just guessing here, but is the problem that you have ported your number to Belong and they sent you a sim card that you put into the phone? And that the phone is working, but you now have a new sim with $80 credit that you want to use instead of the sim that's in the phone now?

In effect, it seems that you want to do a belong-to-belong port. As far as I know, you have to port your number out to another carrier on the sim that is working now, then port back to Belong on the new sim.

Once I/we understand the problem properly, I'm sure that someone here can suggest a solution for you.

    • she wants to use the $80 credit (8 months free) from the other sim, but as she already ported to belong, she can't.
port out and port in again

  • When the credit on the sim you have activated in your phone expires port out to Optus for a month and then port back to belong using the $80 sim. I think it’ll be the only way to use it.

  • Have you actually called Belong and asked them what they can do for you? You never know, you might get someone who can perhaps cancel the new sim and transfer the credit to the old sim. Maybe not very likely, but you won't know unless you ask. You could play up your age and being confused by all this technical stuff, and maybe even tear up?

    • I probably wouldn't bother. Their call centre is closed due to COVID-19 and often not that helpful anyway.

It would be a lot of stress and time on hold on the phone for likely little gain.

  • Your complimentary SIM with $80 should not expire for about a year so you have time. Try to check the expiry date though if you can.

Just settle down and see how the Belong NBN and mobile works for you (should be fine).

See if you pass or sell it to a family member. Later if you really can't find someone else to take over the SIM you can give yourself a few days to port out you current number to say Optus or Vodafone on a $2 SIM then port back to your Belong SIM with the $80 credit.

Suggest you wait a few months given the COVID delays.

  • Thanks to everyone who has tried to help me. Yes, pjetson, I did not explain myself well, but you worked it out in the end. I need to port my number from one Belong SIM card to another Belong SIM card. The second one has $80 credit.
I thought there might be an easier way than having to port to another provider and then back again to Belong. The SIM card with credit doesn’t expire until the Dec. 5 so by then Belong might be answering their phone.

  • Belong have got back to me and confirmed that I annoy keep my mobile phone number and use the SIM card with credit. I have no alternative but to buy another provider’s SIM card, Port my number to them, and then port again back to Belong using the second SIM card. I will do this since $80 credit is a lot to let go when I satisfied all the requirements, but made an honest mistake.
