KitchenAid Toaster KMT21166 (2 Slice) $79, KMT4116 (4 Slice) $99 + Free Shipping @ KitchenAid

100

Looking online for a new Toaster and came across this deal from KitchenAid. New products, not refurbs. Price way better than anywhere else I have seen.

Are they a good toaster? They seem to get reasonably positive responses if you compare from different review sources. Willing to give it a go for the price as their customer service and complaints process seems decent.

I'm not sure majority 1 Star reviews on their own website is 'reasonably positive'. It's what turned me off giving them a go in the past.

    • Yeah, that is a concern. I looked a lot online at reviews from other places like Aamzon, HN, Target, Bed, Bath Beyond etc etc and for the price I thought it seemed better than many. Im keen to see how it is.

  • Wow, the reviews are pretty bad on their website. Was in need of a toaster as well. Might try a different brand.

It doesn't look much but as far as toasting bread I'd only ever get a Sunbeam Maestro - also available in a 2-slice model. Has most of the convenient toaster functionalities we expect nowadays, and does good toast, but what I love is the countdown timer. When's the toast going to pop? It's on the LCD display right in front of you!

Can't help you with a good price though :(

  • What is the difference between kmart toaster and these name toasters?

    Am I missing something?

    • Was going to ask the same thing. In my household, el-cheapo toasters have always outlasted expensive ones by a long way. Maybe it's usually the opposite?

      • Buy a Dualit then report back…in about 20 years.

  • Reviews look terrible, and they're all incredibly consistent - either the toaster burns your toast even on the lowest setting or it only cooks one side.

  • Is this the Rolls Royce of toasters?

    • No (see my review below)

We have the KMT4116; in fact, we have a few.
Bought the first one, found that we could not get a piece of bread to toast without attempting multiple times at various settings (maximum did not toast it).
Complained to KitchenAid; to their credit they sent a replacement by courier and told us to dispose of the earlier purchase. Replacement was the same performance; complained again; another replacement…..etc.

I think we still have two, after giving a couple away.
The toaster does not heat up enough (on the first use of the day) to toast bread. This means that you need to toast at maximum, then make an educated guess about how much longer you need to toast the same bread. Depends on the bread freshness etc. We usually go with a re-toast on a '2' setting, with our usual bread and if re-toasting immediately.
If any of those factors changes, good luck. It is all guess work.
Same if you want to toast another round of bread slices; the toaster has heated up so you need to do maximum and then reduce it even further for the re-toast.

    • I pre-heat my toasters. Run it empty first. Then your settings shouldn't need to change from slice to slice.

I suppose I am effectively pre-heating the toaster, just with the toast already in it.
The settings shouldn't need to change, but they do need to in this toaster.

We have a KMT223 (2 slice Artisan) and have had for a few years. We really like it - toasting of the bread is very even. Lots of easy controls to suit how you like your toast.

Only complaint is - if you get something stuck in there (thick bread/hot cross bun etc), there's no "manual" lift option. As such, it's unplug and then get a knife in there.

    TLDR; I'd buy it again.

    • Wow! Is this the same model? With a review like that (from a presumed reputable source), I'd be giving up and going back to making decent mixers.

      Brand extension gone wrong?

  • I've always wanted a see-through toaster like this but they've all been discontinued :( Would love to be able to see toast slowly turning brown :D
