Can anyone clue me in on as to why there is a deal for these every day, sometimes multiple?

Couple of reasons in about 2 weeks or so a new entry range will be realsed Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X the 3300X will cost about $US120 so about $200 here on release, in terms of gaming these will be close to the 3600 in performance the other reason is later this year they will likely release the Zen 3 CPU's which again will drop prices for the Zen2 products so we'll be seeing a lot more of these :)

EDIT: by these i meant the 3300X no one should buy the 3100 over the 3300X if they are close in terms of pricing (in US they are only $20 apart)

    • Probably the best bang for buck CPU on the market at the moment. Great for gaming, good for productivity.

But as above, new releases in near future probably driving price down.

I would argue the 1600AF is the best bang for buck CPU when it's in stock.
$185 at PCCG for what is essentially a Ryzen 2600.

yeh that CPU was amazing in terms of pricing i think they were $150 at some stage … but the 3600 beats is in most things and in gaming the 3300X is as good or better in some scenario's, in other workstation type applications 1600 AF is better than the 3300X due to the extra cores but if you can get it in the mid $100 its brilliant :)

@scud70: In gaming the 1600AF and 3300X trade blows. But for more workstation type activities the AF beats it.
For $20 less at current pricing.

And of course the 3600 beats the 1600 AF, but it's also nearly double the price. In a completely different league.

@Rail Rider95: Should be really interesting second half of the year … with 10th gen Intels getting released and Zen3's being announced … :)

      • +2

Agreed, it's a sweet spot for bit of both gaming and productivity. It's not for the most hardcore gamers or content creators but at this price point it's sweet.

For gaming it's basically on par with the i7 7700K. Which was and still is perfectly acceptable for gaming.

          • +2

@Rail Rider95: True, good point. My mate runs Half Life Alyx with a 3600 + a 1070 and game's smooth even on ultra settings

          • @Rail Rider95: How does the 3600 & i7 7700k compare with an i7 920 @ 3.4ghz?

    • For the moment, Ryzen 5 3600 is generally considered the most balanced and cost effective current gen CPU to get, partly because 1600AF is no longer cheap enough and people just want i7 7700K like performance in gaming and much better multi-threaded performance in general use.

However, with 3100, 3300X on their way, plus both the 11th gen intel CPUs (which will match the 6/12 setup) and desktop Ryzen 4xxx parts will follow later this year, it is logical to expect AMD will adjust the price for Ryzen 5 3600 later on (or maybe they already have started). Most people do expect AMD to drop the price of Ryzen 5 3600 to give Intel 11th gen equivalent a hard time. Then, there is the weak AUD issue so how much real discount will we get here later on?

    • there's also rumours on a 3000 series refresh coming soon, named like 3620 or 3650

It's good that AMD is keeping Intel on their toes, and currently punishing them for being the lazy monopolist

    • Worse case scenario, AMD will be Intel if they dominate the market.

      • I'm torn, it would be too weird rooting for intel as the underdogs :p

        • Let’s all just hope Intel can continue dominating so we can get value cpus from AMD ;D

        • +4

Intel isn't about to become an underdog, they're still ~10 times larger than AMD in revenue.

          • @miarn: They might be approximately 10 times larger, but they haven't been able to get 10nm sorted. They promised in 2013 that 10nm would come out in 2015. It's 2020, and only now is it available in low power mobile. Still yet to be seen on gaming laptops and desktop. Let's see what the former AMD engineers they hired can do for them.
