Virgin Australia Domestic Flights Australia June 2020 Onwards

Just checked online that Virgin domestic flights are resumed.

Brisbane- Hobart one way costs $215 + CC charges (June 16th)

Qantas and Jetstar are going nuts with $600-800 flights in June.

Do you think it's good idea to book one with Virgin or play safe with Jetstar / Qantas?

Anyone from ozb community lucky to get refund if VA cancel flights recently?

Note: I know it's 14 days self quarantine in home for Tassie residents. Asking for a Tassie mate who is in QLD and looking to return to Hobart.

Update: Just figured out their cancellation policy here: https://travel.virginaustralia.com/au/coronavirus-update/cha…

Can I request a refund if I want to cancel my existing booking?

Your options depend on when your booking was made. Due to certain Virgin Australia Group companies entering voluntary administration, if your original booking was made on or before 20 April 2020, we are unable to process a refund and instead can provide you with a Conditional Credit (link to page). If you made your flight booking after 21 April 2020, and your fare type allows refunds, you can request one through our cancellation webform. If you booked directly with Virgin Australia or with your travel agent if you booked with them. Any cancellation fees in your fare rules still apply. However, if your flight booking was made using a Conditional Credit (or you used a Conditional Credit and another form of payment) , you will be offered another Conditional Credit in the event tha tyour flight is cancelled regardless of your fare type.

depends on whether you would be ok if you lose that money or not

Virgin is currently under administration so no one would be able to guarantee what would happen with you money once it leaves your bank account and goes to theirs

    • Just book directly with Virgin using a credit card. Charge back through your bank if they collapse.

      • Actually this won’t work.
The federal court has issued an order at the request of the administrators. This allows virgin to only offer credits and not refunds on flights. This will mean any future buyer of virgin can carry forward these vouchers and buy with confirmed future business.
Part of this court order prevents refunds being processed via a charge back from your bank. Visa, MasterCard and Amex are all affected by this court order.
If you were to raise a charge back and it was successful virgin would bring the court order to the table and the bank would repay them and retake the money from you if it managed to get through. Calling your bank to initiate a charge back against virgin airlines should if all goes as it should be refused at the application stage by your bank due to this court order.

Booking made after 21 April, and fare type allows refunds, one can request refund. However, cancellation fees still apply.

      • That has nothing to do with doing a chargeback on your credit card if they go into liquidation/don't provide the service you paid for.

  • Why not just book online The day before

Because they sell out. If you had a need to fly from Melbourne to Sydney, Qantas and Jetstar are sold out for the next 8 days. Virgin still has seats most days but they are charging no less than $799 for the next 7 days.

      • Fair enough, not used to it being like this

Mad it’s 799 to fly that route, better off renting a car and driving maybe

Btw Thursday this week is 419

You're in OZB! steal the deal!

jk. my take (from a FFA who follows the news a lot and flies a lot of VA) is that virgin will likely still operate as a domestic carrier. it just may be a very different style by the time it's all said and done. internationally is a different beast, i wouldn't go ahead with that for now.

I was originally flying up to the Fraser Coast(tomorrow) VA refunded my points & credit card payment in full.

  • Update: Had few comments as well as some friends mentioned that VA is refunding money on future bookings.
Qantas is jacking up prices. So, I think no other option than getting ripped off by Qantas.
